Automaticfront-passenger air bag
deactivation system
WARNING
Thefront passenger air bag is designedtoautomati-
callyturn OFF under some conditions. Readthissec-
tion carefully to learn how it operates. Proper useof
the seat,seat beltand child restraints isnecessaryfor
most effective protection.Failuretofollow allinstruc-
tionsinthismanual concerning the useofseats, seat
beltsand child restraints canincreasethe risk or se-
verity of injury in an accident.
In order to recognise achild restraint system on
thefront-passenger seat, the automatic front-
passenger front air bagdeactivation systemcat-
egorises the person in the front passenger seat
using an occupant classification sensor (weight
sensor)

ependingon that result, thefront-pas-
senger front air bag is either enabled or dis-
abled.Ifarearward-facing child restraint sys-
tem is fitted to the front passengerseat, the
<PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF> indicator lamp must
light up after the systemself-test and remain lit.
The front passenger front air bag is disabled.
The system does not disable:
•
The front seat-mounted side-impact supplemental
airbags.
•
Theroof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemen-
tal air bags.
•
The seat belt pre-tensioner.
INFINITI recommends that infants or smallchil-
dren should be seated in achild restraint on the
rearseats if available.According toaccidentsta-
tistics, children are safer when properly
restrained in the rear seat than in the front seat.

“Child restraints” earlier in thissection
).
If it is absolutely necessary to installachild re-
straint system on the front-passenger seat, be
sure to observethe correct positioning of the
child restraint system. Never placeobjects un-
der or behind the child restraint system, e.g. a
cushion. The entire base of the child restraint
system must alwaysrest on the seat cushion of
the front-passenger seat. The seatbackofthe
forward-facing child restraint system must, as
faraspossible, be resting on the seatbackofthe
front-passenger seat.The child restraint system
must nottouchthe roof or be put under strain by
the head restraint Adjust the angle of the seat-
backand the head restraint position accord-
ingly. Only then is the correct function of the
automaticfront passenger front airbag deacti-
vation system guaranteed. Alwaysobserve the
information on suitable positioning of the child
restraint system (see
“Child restraints” earlier in
this section
)inaddition to the child restraint sys-
temmanufacturer’s installation instructions.
