System self-test:
WARNING
If both the <PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF> and <PAS-
SENGER AIR BAG ON> indicator lampsdonot light
up during thesystem self-test, the system is mal-
functioning. The front passenger front air bag
mightbetriggered unintentionallyor might notbe
triggered at allinthe event of an accident with
high deceleration.Thisposes an increased risk of
injuryoreven fatalinjury.
In thiscasethe front passenger seat maynot
be used. Do not installachild restraint sys-
temonthe front-passenger seat. Have the
automatic front-passengerfront air bag de-
activation system checkedand repaired im-
mediatelyat
aq
ualifiedspecialistworkshop.
If the <PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF> indicator lamp
remainslit after the system self-test, the front-
passenger front air bag is disabled. It will not be
deployed in the event of an ac
ci
dent. In thi

e,
thefront-passenger front air bag cannot perform
its intended protective function, e.g. when aper-
son is seated in the front passenger seat.
That person could, forexample, come into
contactwiththevehicle’sinterior,especially
if the person is sitting tooclose to the dash-
board. Thisposes an increased risk of injury
or even fatalinjury.
When the front-passenger seat is occupied,
always ensure that:
The classification of the person in the
frontpassenger seat is correct and the
front passengerfront air bag is enabled
or disabled in accordancewith the per-
son in the front-passenger seat.
The person is seated properly with acor-
rectly fastened seat belt.
Thefront-passengerseathas beenmoved
as farbackaspossible.
If the <PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF> indicator lamp re-
mainslit when it should not, the front passenger seat
maynot be used. Do not installachild restraint sys-
tem on the front passenger seat. Have the automatic
frontpassenger front air bag deactivation system
checkedand repaired immediately at aqualified spe-
cialist workshop.
Objects between the seat surface and the child re-
straint system could affect the function of the au-
tomatic front-passenger front air bag deactivation
system. This could result in the front-passenger
front air bag not functioning asintended during an
accident. Thisposes an increased risk of injuryor
even fatalinjury.
Do not placeany objects between the seat
surface and the child restraint system. The
entire base of the child restraint system
must alwaysrest on the seat cushion of the
frontpassenger seat. The seatbackofthe
for
wards facing child restraint system must,
asfaraspossible,be restingon the seatback
of thefront passenger seat. Alwayscomply
with the child restraint system manufactur-
er’s installation instructions.
Turn the keytothe ACCorONposition in the
ignition switch.The system carries out aself-di-
agnosis.
After the system self-test, the <PASSENGER AIR
BAG OFF>or<PASSENGER AIR BAG ON> indicator
lamp display the status of the front passenger
frontair bag.
