Supplemental side–impact air bag
system
The supplemental side air bags are located in
theoutside of the seatbackofthe front seats.
Thesupplemental side-impact air bag system is
designed to inflate in higher severity side colli-
sions, although it mayinflate if the forces in an-
othertype of collision are similar to those of a
higher severity side impact. It maynot inflate in
certain side collisions. Vehicle damage(or lack
of it) is not alwaysanindication of proper
supplementalside-impact air bagsystem opera-
tion.
The seat belts should be correctly worn and the
driver and passenger seated upright, and as far
as is practical, away from the side air bag. The
side air bags inflate quicklyinorder to help pro-
tect thefront occupants. Becauseofthis, the
forceofthe side air bags inflating canincrease
the risk of injuryifthe occupant is too close to,
or is against, these air bag modules during in-
flation. Theside air bag will deflate quicklyafter
thecollision is over.
WARNING
•
Do notplace any objectsnearthe seatbackofthe
frontseats. Also, do not placeany objects (an um-
brella, bag, etc.)between the front door finisher
and the front seat. Such objects maybecome dan-
gerous projectilesand cause injuryifaside air bag
inflates.
•
Right after inflation, several side air bag and cur-
tain air bag system components will be hot. Do not
touchthem; youmay severely burn yourself.
•
No unauthorized changes should be made to any
components or wiring of the side air bag and cur-
tain air bag systems. Thisistoprevent damageto
or accidental inflation of the side air bag and cur-
tain air bag systems.
•
Do notmakeunauthorized changes to your vehi-
cle’selectrical system, suspension system or side
panel. This could affect proper operation of the
curtain air bag systems.
•
Tampering with the side air bag system mayresult
in seriouspersonal injury. Forexample, do not
changethe front seats by placing material near
the seatbacks or by installing additional trim ma-
terial, suchasseatcovers, aroundthe side air bag.
•
Work around and on the side air bag and curtain
air bag systems should be donebyanINFINITI
centre or qualified workshop.Installation of elec-
trical equipment should also be done by an
INFINITI centre or qualified workshop. The SRSwir-
ing harnesses* should not be modified or discon-
nected. Unauthorized electrical test equipment
and probing devices should not be used on the
side air bag or curtain air bag systems.
Window bag/Supplemental
side–impact curtain air bag system
The supplementalside–impact curtain air bag
is located in the roof side trims.
Thesupplemental side–impact curtain air bag
system is designedtoinflate in higher severity
side collisions, although it mayinflate if the
forces in anothertype of collision are similar to
those of ahigher severity side impact. It may
not inflate in certain side collisions. Vehicle
damage(or lack of it) is not alwaysanindication
of proper supplementalcurtain side–impact air
bag system operation.
The seat beltsshould be correctly worn and the
rear seat passengersshould be seated as far
away as practical from the door finishers and
side roof rails. The curtain air bags inflate
quicklyinorder to helpprotect thefrontand rear
occupants. Becauseofthis, the forceofthe cur-
tain air bag inflating canincreasethe risk of in-
jury if theoccupant is too close to, or is against,
these air bag modulesduring inflation. The cur-
tain air bag will deflate quicklyafter the colli-
sion is over.
