In certain frontal collisionswith pedestrian, the
pop-up engine bonnet system canhelp reduce
impact to theheadofapedestrian. Thissystem
is designed to pop up the rear end of the bonnet
in certain frontal collisionstoprovide specified
clearanc
ebetween the bonnet and the engine
compartment to reduceimpact to pedestrian.
The pop-up engine bonnet systemactivates in
certain frontal collisionswith pedestriansorob-
jects when the vehicleisdriven between about
20 and 60km/h.While driving, the pop-up en-
gine bonnet mayactivate in the event of an im-
pactcollision involving the bottom ofthe vehicle
or bumper.The system activates when the colli-
sion impact reaches acertain level even though
thecollision does not causedamagetothe
bumper.
The pop-up engine bonnet operates only when
the ignition switch is in the “ON” position.
WARNING
•
The pop-upengine bonnet will not activate in the
eventofaside impact, rear impact or rollover col-
lision.
•
The pop-upengine bonnet maynot activate in the
event of acorner impact collision of the front
bumper.
•
No unauthorised changes should be made to any
components including bonnet and front bumper,
orwiringof the pop-upengine bonnetsystem.This
is to prevent accidental or improper activation, or
damagetothe pop-up engine bonnet system.
•
Work around or on the pop-up engine bonnet sys-
tem should be done by an INFINITI Centre or quali-
fied workshop.The wiring of the pop-up engine
bonnet systemshould not be modified or discon-
nected. Unauthorised electricaltest equipment
andprobing devices should not be used on the
pop-up engine bonnet system. Thiscould affect
proper operationofthe pop-up engine bonnet and
causeaccidental and improper activation.
•
If youneed to dispose of the pop-up engine bon-
net system,orscrap the vehicle, contact an
INFINITICentre or qualifiedworkshop.Correctpop-
up engine bonnet system disposal procedures are
set forth in theappropriate INFINITI Service
Manual.Incorrectdisposalprocedurescould cause
personal injury.

The pop-up engine bonnet cannot be reused after
activation. Contact an INFINITI Centre or qualified
workshop forreplacement. If the vehicle becomes
involved in afrontal collision but the pop-up en-
gine bonnet system is not activated, be sure to
have the pop-up engine bonnet system checked
and, ifnecessary,replaced byan INFINITI Centre or
qualified wor
ks
hop.
•
Forthe drive to the INFINITI Centre or qualified
workshop, reset the triggered pop-up engine bon-
net yourself.Donot drive faster than 20km/h.
RESETTING THE POP-UP ENGINE
BONNET
WARNING
Certain components in the engine compartment could
be veryhot, e.g. the engine, the radiator and parts of
the exhaust system. There is ariskofinjurywhen ac-
cessing the engine compartment.
As faraspossible, allow the engine to cool down and
only touchthe components described in the following
instructions.
With your hand flat, push down the pop-up en-
ginebonnet

1inthe areaaround the hinges
on both sides (arrows) until youfeel it engage.
If youcan raisethe pop-up engine bonnet
slightly in the areaaround the hinges,itisnot
engaged correctly.Repeat the step.
