Overview

The Injectidry Direct-It IN (UAA1) is an adapter designed to facilitate the drying of trapped spaces by positively moving dry air into them, primarily for restoration jobs. This owner's manual, dated October 2006, provides comprehensive instructions for its attachment, installation, and general usage, along with important safety warnings and warranty information.

Function Description:

The Direct-It IN serves as an interface between most standard airmovers and a system of hoses and penetrators, allowing for targeted drying in areas that are difficult to access with conventional drying equipment. It is particularly effective for drying walls, stairs, and cabinets by injecting dry air directly into these structures. The system works by taking the output from an airmover and distributing it through multiple hoses, which are then connected to penetrators inserted into the material to be dried. This method ensures that dry air is delivered precisely where needed, enhancing drying efficiency in concealed or enclosed spaces.

Important Technical Specifications:

The Direct-It IN (UAA1) unit itself is equipped with bungee cords for secure attachment to an airmover. The system includes:

  • 01 - UAA1: The main Direct-It IN unit with attached bungee cords.
  • 03 - 1 1/4 inch Hoses: Three sections of 1 1/4 inch x 50 feet hose, shipped blank to allow users to cut them to desired lengths.
  • 17 - 5/8 Wall Penetrators (WP2): These are black, redesigned penetrators with a 5/8" business end, designed to slide into the 1 1/4" hose or a 1 1/4" Hose Cuff.
  • 17 - 1-1/4 Hose Cuffs: Used to connect hoses and penetrators.
  • 01 - CB1 Carry Bag: For convenient storage and transport of the system components.

The hoses are designed to be cut to custom lengths, offering flexibility for various drying scenarios. The penetrators are specifically sized at 5/8" for insertion into drilled holes, ensuring a snug fit for efficient air delivery.

Usage Features:

The manual outlines a straightforward process for attaching and installing the Direct-It IN:

  1. Attachment to Airmover: The Direct-It IN is placed in front of the airmover, and the airmover's snout is inserted into the back of the Direct-It IN housing. A lower bungee cord is then stretched around the airmover's base and fastened to a lower eyelet on the Direct-It IN, securing the connection. This process is repeated for any additional bungee cords.
  2. Placement: It is recommended to place the Direct-It IN in the center of the drying run for optimal performance.
  3. Hose Installation: The hose-cuffed ends of the supplied hoses are then installed onto the Direct-It IN.
  4. Drilling Holes: For targeted drying, holes are drilled into the material (e.g., walls, cabinets). The manual strongly recommends using an adjustable drill stop to control the depth of penetration, preventing damage to hidden components like electrical wires or plumbing pipes. The depth should be based on the material thickness.
  5. Hose Lengths: Hoses are shipped blank, allowing users to cut them to custom lengths appropriate for the specific drying job. Caution is advised when cutting hoses with sharp instruments.
  6. Safety: The manual emphasizes critical safety instructions:
    • Wear protective eyewear (safety glasses) when stretching, fastening, or releasing hooks.
    • Do not stretch cords more than 50% (e.g., 12" to max 18") to prevent cord or hook failure and potential injury.
    • Inspect cords before each use for fraying or bent/damaged hooks.
    • Avoid stretching cords directly toward or away from oneself; pull to one side to prevent being struck by rebounding hooks.
    • Install the drying device in a safe manner, keeping aisles clear and reducing trip hazards. Set up warnings if trip hazards exist.
  7. Contamination Control: On any restoration job involving air movement, the use of air filtration devices (AFDs) is recommended to control dust, debris, and potential mold, ensuring a healthier environment.

Maintenance Features:

The manual does not explicitly detail routine maintenance procedures for the Direct-It IN itself, but it does provide important information regarding warranty and customer service for support and parts.

Warranty:

The Direct-It / Direct-It IN comes with a 1-year warranty. This warranty is subject to limitations, excluding damage from:

  • Accidental damage, alteration, normal wear, disassembly, lack of proper maintenance.
  • Fire, flood, corrosive or other chemicals.
  • Improper voltage use, unauthorized repairs, or use of non-genuine parts and materials.
  • Misuse or any other causes beyond Injectidry's control. The warranty covers repairs or replacement of defective parts, as determined by Injectidry Systems. All repairs or modifications must be completed by Injectidry Systems or an authorized service center to maintain warranty validity. Injectidry Systems is not responsible for subsequent damage caused by the user or their agents.
