Concentrating Pipette Select Quick Start Guide
(Patents and Patents Pending: www.innovaprep.com/patents)
Instrument Overview:
The Concentrating Pipette Select or CP Select uses Single-use Concentrating Pipette Tips (CPT) and Wet Foam Elution
Canisters to allow users to quickly and easily concentrate biological particles from large liquid volumes (up to 5 L) into
volumes as small as 150 µL.
The CP Select allows the user to store up to 15 preset protocols.
Factory set protocols are provided for Flat CPTs, Hollow Fiber CPTs, and Ultrafiltration CPTs. Using these protocols is a
good place to start.
Standard and Advanced Set Points are provided. Standard Set Points will provide the needed performance for nearly all
applications and should be explored fully first.
Start Up and Shut Down Maintenance Procedures are used with a Storage Fluid to maintain performance of the
instrument, and should be used each day that the instrument is used.
Important notes:
The instrument can concentrate and elute with the Fluidics Head in any position.
Never run alcohol stronger than 15% through the instrument as it may damage internal components.
Use the Arm Tension Knob on the left side of the arm to adjust how tightly the Fluidics Head is held in place.
Use the Up () and Down () arrows to highlight options on the Control Panel and press Enter ( ) to select. To adjust
settings, press enter and use the up and down keys to select the value desired. Then press the enter key again. At the
bottom of each menu tree, the option “Return” is displayed; selecting this option will return you to the previous menu.
The final volume of your sample is controlled most easily by the elution fluid Valve Open Time. The longer the open time
and the more pulses performed, the larger the elution volume.
Be sure that the CPT is firmly “clicked” into position; it will snap into the detent indicating that it is fully seated.
Once a CPT has been used to concentrate a sample it cannot be reused.
Protect theCan Interface Port’ from contaminants by using the orange Elution Fluid Port Cover supplied with the
instrument or by keeping an Elution Canister or the Storage Fluid Adapter in place. The port should be wiped with
alcohol when changing fluids.
Please keep the custom foam packaging insert for use in the event a return shipment is necessary.
Prior to transporting or shipping the instrument refer to Section 6 of the User Guide for instructions.
Refer to the chemical compatibility chart in the User Guide.

Overview

The Innovaprep Concentrating Pipette Select (CP Select) is an instrument designed for the rapid and efficient concentration of biological particles from large liquid volumes (up to 5 L) into small volumes (as small as 150 µL). It achieves this using Single-use Concentrating Pipette Tips (CPT) and Wet Foam Elution Canisters.

Function Description:

The CP Select operates by drawing a liquid sample through a CPT, which captures biological particles. Once the entire sample has been processed, the instrument automatically concludes the run. The concentrated particles are then eluted from the CPT into a small volume, ready for downstream analysis. The instrument is versatile, capable of concentrating various types of biological particles, and supports different CPT types, including Flat, Hollow Fiber, and Ultrafiltration CPTs.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: The instrument requires a 12V DC power supply, compatible with 110-240 V AC 50/60 Hz (1.0 Amp) wall receptacles. It is crucial to use only the provided power supply to avoid damage and voiding the warranty.
  • Concentration Volume: Capable of processing liquid volumes up to 5 L.
  • Elution Volume: Can concentrate samples down to volumes as small as 150 µL.
  • Protocol Storage: The CP Select can store up to 15 preset protocols, with factory-set protocols available for different CPT types. Users can also create and customize their own protocols.
  • Alcohol Compatibility: The instrument should never be run with alcohol stronger than 15% to prevent damage to internal components.

Usage Features:

  • Ease of Use: The instrument features a Control Panel with Up (▲) and Down (▼) arrows and an Enter (ㄩ) button for navigation and selection.
  • Flexible Operation: The instrument can concentrate and elute with the Fluidics Head in any position.
  • CPT Insertion: CPTs are designed to "click" firmly into position when properly seated.
  • Arm Tension Adjustment: An Arm Tension Knob on the left side of the arm allows users to adjust how tightly the Fluidics Head is held in place.
  • Protocol Selection: Users can easily select from stored protocols or create custom ones. Standard and Advanced Set Points are available for protocol customization.
  • Elution Control: The final elution volume is primarily controlled by the elution fluid Valve Open Time and the number of pulses performed. Longer open times and more pulses result in larger elution volumes.
  • Sample Platform: A dedicated sample platform is provided for placing sample containers.
  • Permeate Line: A permeate line connects to the Permeate Line Port and directs waste into a container, secured by a Permeate Line Clip.
  • USB Port: The instrument includes a USB port, though its specific function is not detailed in the provided text.
  • Power Switch: A physical power switch is located on the instrument for easy on/off control.

Maintenance Features:

  • Start-Up Procedure: A guided Start-Up Procedure is recommended each time the instrument is powered on after a Shut-Down. This involves navigating through the Maintenance menu on the Control Panel.
  • Shut-Down Procedure: A Shut-Down Procedure, also guided through the Maintenance menu, should be performed at the end of each day of sample concentration runs. This procedure uses Storage Fluid to maintain instrument performance.
  • Storage Fluid System: The instrument comes with a Reusable Storage Fluid Adapter that inserts into a bottle of Storage Fluid, stowed in a Storage Fluid Bracket. A Reusable Maintenance Tip is also stowed in this bracket.
  • Can Interface Port Protection: The 'Can Interface Port' should be protected from contaminants using the orange Elution Fluid Port Cover or by keeping an Elution Canister or Storage Fluid Adapter in place. The port should be wiped with alcohol when changing fluids.
  • CPT Disposal: Once a CPT has been used to concentrate a sample, it cannot be reused and should be removed by pushing up against the bottom of the Fluidics Head while pulling the CPT down.
  • Packaging for Transport: Users are advised to keep the custom foam packaging insert for safe return shipment if necessary. Specific instructions for transporting or shipping the instrument are detailed in Section 6 of the User Guide.
  • Chemical Compatibility: Users should refer to the chemical compatibility chart in the User Guide for information on compatible chemicals.
