Overview

The provided document is an installation, operation, and service manual for the Series eWAVE™ Long Wave Infrared Heater, manufactured by Superior Radiant Products.

Function Description

The Series eWAVE heater is an electric infrared heater designed for residential and commercial heating applications, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It operates by emitting long-wave infrared radiation, providing heat directly to objects and people rather than heating the air. The device is intended solely for use as an infrared heater.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual details two models: EW15L12 and EW32L24, both operating on a single phase.

EW15L12:

  • Output Wattage: 1500 W
  • Supply Voltage: 120 V
  • Supply Amp Draw: 12.5 A
  • Supply Voltage / Connection: 1Ø2W, 120Vac
  • Dimensions: 57x8x3" (145x20x8cm)
  • Weight: 16.5 lbs (7.5 Kg)

EW32L24:

  • Output Wattage: 3200 W
  • Supply Voltage: 240 V
  • Supply Amp Draw: 13.3 A
  • Supply Voltage / Connection: 1Ø2W, 240Vac
  • Dimensions: 89x8x3" (226x20x8cm)
  • Weight: 25.1 lbs (11.4 Kg)

General Electrical Requirements:

  • Installation must comply with local codes, or in their absence, the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70 (USA) or the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1, C22.1 (Canada).
  • The energy supply must be properly grounded.
  • The appliance includes a junction box.
  • A fused switch or circuit breaker is required for installation.
  • When required by installation code, a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) with a rated earth leakage operation not exceeding 30mA must be fitted upstream on the supply line to prevent electric shock.
  • A category III combined circuit breaker with a contact opening distance of at least 3 mm is necessary for total disconnection.
  • For supply connections, use copper wires suitable for at least 167°F (75°C) with an AWG16 section.
  • The heater is not equipped with a power cord.
  • There are no serviceable parts inside the heater.

Clearance to Combustibles:

  • Minimum clearance from the floor to the heater: 8 ft (243 cm).
  • Minimum clearances from ceiling, walls, and other objects are specified in diagrams, showing distances such as 6" (15cm) from the ceiling, 4.7" (12cm) from the side, 40" (1m) from the front, and 4" (10cm) from the rear.
  • Objects below the heater require a minimum clearance of 40" (1m).
  • Minimum clearance from the ceiling for objects above the heater: 16" (40cm).
  • Minimum clearance from the wall for objects to the side of the heater: 8" (20cm).
  • A safety clearance of 40" (100cm) should always be maintained in front of the heaters.
  • The stated clearance to combustibles represents a surface temperature of 117°F (65°C) above room temperature. Installers must ensure adjacent materials with low heat tolerance are protected from deterioration.

Usage Features

  • Operation: The heater automatically goes into ON mode once powered. It takes a few minutes to reach maximum temperature.
  • Temperature Control: Each enclosed area where the heater is located must have a temperature control device, as the heater itself does not feature a device to control ambient temperature.
  • Installation Angles: The supplied wall mounting bracket allows installation at various angles (10°, 20°, 30°, 40°, 50°).
  • Outdoor Installation: For outdoor installations, it is crucial to ensure the water resistance of the junction box by correctly matching and placing all components of the fitting along the conduit hose. The cut end of the conduit must be uniform, and the main ring nut of the fitting must be firmly tightened. A water-tight conduit must be employed.
  • Safety:
    • Read all instructions before installation or use.
    • Heater surfaces are hot when in use; avoid bare skin contact.
    • Keep combustible materials (furniture, pillows, bedding, paper, clothes, curtains) at least 3.3 feet (1m) from the front of the heater.
    • Exercise extreme caution when used by or near children or invalids, or when left unattended.
    • Do not operate if malfunctioning; disconnect power and have it inspected by an electrician.
    • Disconnect power at the main disconnect panel to turn off.
    • Do not use in areas with gasoline, paint, or flammable vapors/liquids.
    • Use only as described in the manual to prevent fire, electric shock, or injury.
    • Do not touch with wet hands or bare feet.
    • Do not allow children to play with the appliance.
    • Do not modify the product.
    • Keep connections dry.
    • Turn off power at the circuit breaker panel if not used for a long period.
    • Do not turn the heater on if it's placed or lying down on any surface.
    • Do not use if ambient temperature exceeds 80°F (25°C).
    • Not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas, or similar indoor areas where it might fall into water.
    • Some parts can become very hot and cause burns; particular attention is needed when children and vulnerable people are present.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • Before cleaning, ensure power is off at the circuit breaker panel and the heating element is cool.
    • Never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid.
    • Cleaning and maintenance must be performed by the user and not by unsupervised children.
    • Use a soft damp cloth, then dry thoroughly.
    • Ensure all parts are dry before powering the heater.
    • eWAVE units should be cleaned and inspected every 3 months.
    • Avoid harsh detergents, solvents, and abrasive or aerosol cleaners as they may damage surfaces.
    • Inspect and clean the back of the heater thoroughly for build-up of insects, bird droppings, dust, salt, etc.
  • Storage: If removed from mounting brackets, store in an undercover dry location.
  • Inspection: Always inspect the heater after high winds, earthquakes, vandalism, or any other unusual event. Ensure all parts are dry before powering.
  • Service: Any maintenance service, excluding cleaning, must be carried out by an authorized Manufacturer representative. For questions, contact the local authorized distributor.
  • Discoloration: The color of the radiator may change from dark black to faded black when used in smoky or polluted environments or at ambient temperatures above 80°F (25°C). This is normal and does not affect functionality or warranty.
