Overview

This manual describes an inflatable stand-up paddleboard (SUP) from the brand NAUTICAL, along with its accessories and usage guidelines.

Function Description:

The NAUTICAL inflatable paddleboard is designed for recreational paddling. Its inflatable nature makes it compact for convenient storage and travel. The board is intended for use in various water conditions, with specific warnings against severe weather. It is suitable for both casual paddling and more active use, provided safety guidelines are followed. The paddleboard comes with a three-piece adjustable paddle for ease of transport and customization to the user's height.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Recommended Pressure: 15 PSI (pounds per square inch). The board can hold up to 25 PSI, but inflating beyond 15 PSI offers no further benefit and can lead to damage, especially in changing temperatures.
  • Inflation Time: Approximately 250 pumps are needed to reach 15 PSI. The pressure gauge will register a reading after about 150 pumps.
  • Paddle Construction: The paddle is a three-piece adjustable design, allowing for compact storage and customizable length.
  • Fin System: The board features a three-fin setup: two smaller side fins and one larger middle fin, which are installed into fin boxes on the board's tail section.
  • Warranty: All NAUTICAL boards come with a 1-year limited warranty from the date of purchase, covering manufacturer defects. Proof of purchase is required for warranty claims.

Usage Features:

  • Inflation:
    • Connect the air hose to the pump.
    • Locate the air valve on the tail section of the board deck.
    • Open the valve cover.
    • Ensure the inner valve is disengaged in the "UP" position to prevent air from escaping.
    • Connect the air hose to the air valve.
    • Begin pumping. The pressure gauge will not read until 7 PSI.
    • Midway through inflation, if pumping becomes difficult, unscrew the plug from the top cap of the pump body (this likely refers to switching pump modes for easier high-pressure inflation).
    • Inflate the board to 15 PSI.
    • Disconnect the air hose from the valve. The inner valve, if in the "UP" position, will prevent air from escaping.
    • The pump has an action control setting (1 and 2) to manage pumping difficulty. Start at setting 1, and switch to setting 2 when the handle becomes harder to lift (around 100 pumps).
  • Deflation:
    • Open the valve cover.
    • Depress the inner valve and twist it to lock it in the open or "down" position, allowing air to escape freely.
    • Starting from the nose, tightly roll up the board to force remaining air through the valve.
  • Fin Installation:
    • Insert the fin into the notched section of the fin box first.
    • Rock the fin towards the rear of the board until it is fully seated in the fin box.
    • Lock the fin in place by flipping the lever lock down into the locking position.
    • Repeat for all three fins and test for security before paddling.
  • Paddle Assembly:
    • The paddle separates into three smaller sections for transport.
    • Connect the paddle shafts, being careful not to pinch fingertips.
    • Use the C-clamp mechanism to adjust the paddle length. Pull open the C-clamp by grabbing the notched sides and pulling firmly. Apply gentle pressure to press the C-clamp shut and secure the paddle at the desired length.
  • Safety Guidelines:
    • Always wear a Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD).
    • Do not paddle in severe weather or water conditions that might affect steering or returning to shore.
    • Minors must be supervised by an adult.
    • Avoid consuming alcohol or other substances that impair coordination or judgment.
    • Do not use the board beyond your skills or ability.
    • Avoid using the product after sunset, before dawn, or in poor lighting.
    • Check local laws and regulations regarding proper and safe use.
    • Do not transport an inflated paddleboard on top of a vehicle, as it can cause damage or warping.
    • Keep the board clear of sharp objects during transport to prevent punctures.
    • Keep the board clear of heat-producing items (e.g., camp stoves, propane lamps) to prevent heat damage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Heat Protection: Never leave the paddleboard in direct sunlight when out of the water. Always keep it in the shade. If transport or temporary storage in sunlight is unavoidable, keep the bottom facing up. Prolonged sun exposure can damage board materials and void the warranty.
  • Drying: Allow the board to completely dry before tightly rolling it for packing to prevent mildew or mold damage.
  • Cleaning:
    • Rinse off sand and saltwater deposits with fresh water after each use.
    • Wash with soap and water after each use.
    • Store in a cool, dry environment.
    • Allow carry handles to dry completely before prolonged storage.
  • Pump Maintenance:
    • The pump may lose lubrication over time. Reapply white lithium grease.
    • To lubricate: Open the top, pull out the plunger, spread a thin layer of lubricant on the black gasket at the bottom of the plunger, and reassemble.
    • Regularly clean the air filter located under the pressure gauge (unscrews from the top by hand).
  • Rolling for Storage: When rolling, ensure the valve is open and start at the nose. Roll in a tight, straight manner. Close the valve and wrap the strap around the rolled board. Avoid standing the rolled board on its side on rough surfaces (like concrete or rocks) to prevent damage to the rail.
  • Paddle Maintenance: Rinse the paddle with fresh water after every use and remove the upper shaft to dry.
  • Repair Kit: The board comes with an emergency repair kit including a valve wrench and repair patches. Repair glue is not included but can be found on the manufacturer's website.
    • Repair Procedure:
      1. Completely deflate the board.
      2. Thoroughly clean the surface around the leak and the matte side of the patch with rubbing alcohol. Ensure both surfaces are free of moisture, oil, and debris.
      3. Apply glue (not included) carefully and evenly to both surfaces.
      4. Apply a thin layer of glue across the entire patch. Clamp the patch to the board for 12-24 hours.
      5. Allow glue to dry for 24 hours before using the board.
    • Valve Wrench: The included valve wrench should ONLY be used for leaking valves and NEVER to deflate the board. Improper use voids the warranty.
