The ITA40 is a pneumatic steel strapping tool designed for sealing and tensioning steel straps. It is a robust and versatile device suitable for various industrial applications.
Function Description
The ITA40 operates by using compressed air to tension and seal steel straps around packages or bundles. It features a pneumatic tensioning system that applies the required force to the strap, and a pneumatic sealing mechanism that creates a secure joint. The tool is designed for ease of use, allowing operators to efficiently strap items with minimal effort. It can be used for both vertical and horizontal strapping applications.

- T401331: ITA40-13mm-4500N, R 850N/mm2, 0.4mm 0.016" – 0.63mm 0.025"
- T401631: ITA40-16mm-4500N, R 850N/mm2, 0.4mm 0.016" – 0.63mm 0.025"
- T401931: ITA40-19mm-4500N, R 850N/mm2, 0.4mm 0.016" – 0.63mm 0.025"
The "R" value refers to the tensile strength of the strap in N/mm². The thickness range indicates the minimum and maximum strap thickness the tool can handle.
Usage Features
Operation:
The ITA40 is designed for intuitive operation. To strap an item:
- Strap Insertion: Make the strap slip into the seal and wind it up around the package.
- Tensioning: Push the opening lever to open the machine and load it with the strap already prepared. Press the tensioning button to tighten the strap and hold it until the operation is over.
- Sealing and Cutting: Once strap tension operation is over, press the opening lever and hold it until sealing and cutting operations are ended. Once the sealing and cutting cycle is over, it is sufficient to press the opening lever to take the strap bottom out of the machine.
- Verification: Check the seal joint for proper formation.
Adjustments:
- Strap Tension Adjustment: The maximum strap tension can be adjusted with a screwdriver. Turning clockwise increases the tension force, while turning counter-clockwise decreases it. This adjustment should be made based on the strap quality and dimensions.
- Feedwheel Gap Adjustment: The distance between the feedwheel and grippers can be adjusted to change the teeth pressure on the strap. Unscrew the locking screw, set the strap plate with a screwdriver, so that the standard gap between the feedwheel and grippers is 0.1-0.2mm (0.0039" - 0.0078"). Turning clockwise decreases the gap, and turning counter-clockwise increases it. This adjustment is crucial for proper strap feeding and to prevent damage to the strap.
- Roller Height Adjustment: The distance between the roller and the plate can be adjusted to ensure proper strap movement. Unscrew the locking screw, set the plate with a screwdriver, so that the standard distance between the roller and the plate is 0.1-0.2mm. Turning clockwise decreases the distance, and turning counter-clockwise increases it.
Safety:
Operators should always wear protective equipment, including eye protection, face protection, and hand protection, when using the tool. The tool should only be used with clean, dry, and lightly lubricated compressed air. Never use the tool with bottled air or other gas sources.
Maintenance Features
General Maintenance:
- Daily Cleaning: Regularly clean the tension roller and sliding plate with compressed air.
- Lubrication: The tool requires regular lubrication to ensure smooth operation and prevent wear. Use a suitable pneumatic lubricant.
- Air Supply Check: Before any intervention on the tool, disconnect it from the compressed air supply.
- Regular Checks: Periodically check the tool for wear and tear, especially on critical components like the tension roller, feedwheel, and sealing mechanism.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
The manual provides a detailed troubleshooting guide for common issues:
- Insufficient Strap Tension: Check the air pressure (min. 5.5 bar), the filter/lubricator group, and the pneumatic motor. Adjust the motor power if necessary.
- Feedwheel Slips or Damages Strap: Check if the feedwheel is damaged or dirty. Adjust the gap between the feedwheel and pressure button (around 0.2mm).
- Tension Roller Slips or Damages Strap: Check if the tension roller is damaged or dirty. Adjust the distance between the roller and the strap plate (around 0.2mm).
- Motor Value Adjustment: Adjust the motor power to achieve the required tension force. Check the strap characteristics for the strapping tool.
- Inverted/Bent Strap: Adjust the value of the tension motor. Check the strap characteristics for the strapping tool.
- Air Leaks: Replace the gaskets and contact the after-sale service.
- Insufficient Sealing: Check the air pressure (min. 5.5 bar). Check if there are some loosened parts into the sealing group. Check the strap characteristics for the strapping tool. Check the seal quality.
- Incorrect Strap Cutting: Check the air pressure (min. 5.5 bar). Check if the strap characteristics are right for the strapping tool.
Installation:
The ITA40 requires a line unit of dried air and a filter-regulator-lubricator unit (Itatools code S100001) close to the tool to avoid water and dirt in the valves or motors. Check the oil in the lubricator. Use a minimum 8mm or 3/8" diameter pipe, max length for flexible pipe 10mt between tool and regulator group. Check that the compressor/air distribution plant is able to supply the right air quantity as shown in the operation manual without loose pressure.
Warranty:
Itatools S.r.l. warrants all its tools during a period of 12 months from the shipping date document. The warranty includes all deficiencies clearly resulting from poor manufacturing or faulty materials. This warranty does not cover misuse, inappropriate handling, maintenance, arbitrary modifications, or repairs. Damage caused by improper operation or lack of maintenance is not covered.
