Do you have a question about the iWeld GORILLA POCKETMIG 225 DP and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The GORILLA POCKETMIG 225 DP is an IGBT inverter technology, double pulse MIG/MAG welding power source designed for various welding tasks, including MIG/MAG, Lift TIG, and MMA (Stick) welding. It is characterized by stable operation, impressive performance, energy efficiency, and environmentally friendly operation, thanks to its advanced inverter technology and high-quality components. The microprocessor control and welding support functions continuously help maintain the optimum character of welding or cutting.

Function Description

The device offers multiple welding modes:

  • MIG/MAG Welding: This is the primary mode, featuring synergic control and double pulse functionality. The synergic digital programming ensures that both voltage and wire speed adjust together for optimal welding. Independent voltage adjustment is also possible. The device allows for inductance adjustment, which effectively controls the intensity of the welding arc, making it softer with less spatter or stronger for increased penetration. It also supports 2T/4T operation for trigger control during welding. The "wire check" function assists in feeding the wire smoothly.
  • MMA/STICK Welding: This mode is for welding with coated electrodes. It requires an MMA lead set. The device includes a Voltage Reduction Device (VRD) for safety, which reduces the open circuit voltage to minimize electric shock risk, though it may make arc striking more difficult.
  • Lift TIG Welding: This mode requires an argon gas supply, a TIG torch, consumables, and a gas regulator. It allows for TIG welding with arc ignition by lightly touching the workpiece with the tungsten electrode.

The control panel features:

  • Left Knob: Used for welding mode selection and fine adjustment of MIG voltage.
  • Left Button: Functions as a "home" button for navigation.
  • Right Knob: Adjusts parameters such as wire speed, diameter, inductance, hot start, and arc force.
  • Right Button: Used for parameter adjustment and selecting functions like 2T/4T and wire check.
  • MIG Torch EURO Style Connector: For connecting the MIG welding torch.
  • Positive (+) and Negative (-) Welding Output Terminals: For connecting welding cables.
  • Polar Conversion Line: For changing polarity in MIG welding.
  • Power Switch: To turn the machine on/off.
  • Welding Gas Inlet: For connecting the shielding gas supply.
  • Power Cable: For mains power connection.
  • Wire Tension Adjustment: For controlling the tension of the welding wire.
  • Wire Tension Arm & Support Roller: Components of the wire feeding mechanism.
  • Wire Input Guide, Wire Drive Roller, Drive Roller Retainer: Parts of the wire feeding system.
  • Wire Spool Retainer, Spool Brake Adjustment: For securing and controlling the wire spool.

Usage Features

  • Installation: The machine requires connection to a grounded electrical outlet. For long cable runs (50-100m), the cable cross-section should be increased to avoid voltage drops. Output cables for the earth clamp and MIG torch must be connected correctly and securely. The wire reel installation involves selecting the appropriate wire feeding groove (U-shape for aluminum, V-shape for steel, knurled for flux-cored wire), threading the wire, and adjusting tension. Shielding gas connection requires a CO2 hose, air regulator, and gas bottle, with proper tightening to prevent leaks.
  • Operation: The digital control program loads in 5 seconds after power-on. Welding parameters like voltage, wire speed, and inductance are adjustable via the control knobs and buttons. The 2T/4T function provides flexibility in trigger control for different welding durations. The "wire check" function simplifies wire feeding by automatically running the feed motor at full speed.
  • Safety Features: The device includes protection against overvoltage, overcurrent, and overheating, automatically shutting down if these events occur. VRD (Voltage Reduction Device) in MMA mode reduces open circuit voltage to minimize electric shock risk.
  • Parameter Guidance: The manual provides reference tables for welding parameters (plate thickness, gap, wire diameter, welding current, welding voltage, welding speed, gas volume) for various joint types (butt-welding, flat fillet welding, vertical fillet welding, lap welding). These are general guidelines, and actual settings may vary based on specific conditions.

Maintenance Features

  • Pre-Maintenance Safety: Always disconnect the power unit before any maintenance or repair. Ensure proper grounding.
  • Connection Check: Regularly inspect internal gas and electricity connections. Tighten if necessary. If oxidation is present, remove it with sandpaper and reconnect.
  • Cleaning: Keep hands, hair, and loose clothing away from live electrical parts and the fan. Regularly clean the machine from dust using clean, dry compressed air. In dusty or polluted environments, daily cleaning is recommended.
  • Gas Pressure: Ensure correct gas pressure to prevent damage to components.
  • Moisture Protection: If water enters the machine (e.g., from rain), dry it thoroughly and check insulation before resuming welding.
  • Storage: For long periods of non-use, store the machine in its original packaging in a dry place.
