Overview

The LaneBlade® is a highway safety device designed to clear roadway debris. It is manufactured from heavy-duty steel construction and finished with a corrosion-resistant powder coat, ensuring durability and long service life.

Function Description:

The primary function of the LaneBlade® is to push roadway debris weighing less than 150 pounds at speeds less than 20 mph. It is not intended for use as a snowplow or grader to move excessive amounts of snow, dirt, or gravel. The system includes a camera and an in-cab video touch screen monitor to assist in the safe removal of debris. An optional DVR system is available to record video footage while the vehicle's ignition is on.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Weight: Approximately 650 lbs.
  • Dimensions (from bottom of blade to top of grille): 41 inches.
  • Dimensions (from bottom of blade to top of cowling): 45 inches.
  • Width (Wings Stowed): 98 inches.
  • Width (Wings at Half-Extension): 101 inches.
  • Width (Wings Fully Deployed): 105 inches.
  • Ground Clearance (Stowed Position): Approximately 8.5 inches.
  • Wing Angles:
    • Stowed: 35° from the maul board.
    • Fully Deployed: 40° from the maul board (75° travel from stowed).
    • Tolerance: +/- 5°.
  • Capacity: Designed to push debris weighing 150 pounds at a maximum speed of 20 mph.
  • Hydraulic System:
    • Pump Motor Specifications:
      • Motor Voltage: 12 VDC
      • Motor Horsepower: 2 HP
      • Motor Power: 1.5 kW
      • Reservoir Volume: 0.83 Gallon
      • Reservoir Usable Volume: 1 Gallon
      • Pressure Rating: 2000 PSI
    • The hydraulic system is equipped with fluid velocity fuses to prevent damage from dropping from the stowed position in case of an unexpected hydraulic fluid loss.
    • A 1,200 PSI crossover relief valve prevents damage to the hydraulic system if the wings strike an obstruction, causing pressure to exceed 1,200 PSI.
  • Blade Wear Limit: The blade is a wear item. If any point along its length is less than 3/8 of an inch, the blade must be replaced.

Usage Features:

  • Vehicle Mount: The LaneBlade® attaches to the vehicle via a J-Tech vehicle mount, bolted to the underside of the vehicle frame.
  • In-Cab Controller: Provides full control of the LaneBlade® from the cab.
    • ON/OFF Switch: Powers the control keypad (which glows green when on) and can be used as an emergency stop.
    • Deployment: Press and hold "WINGS FWD" to fully deploy wings. A quick double-tap engages this function for 5-6 seconds.
    • Stowing: Press and hold "WINGS BACK" to fully stow wings. A quick double-tap engages this function for 5-6 seconds.
    • FLOAT Mode: Engaged by double-tapping or pressing and holding the "DOWN" button for 3 seconds. The FLOAT indicator light changes from green to red. It automatically cancels after 20 minutes or can be canceled by momentarily pressing the "UP" button.
    • Operation Time Outs: Control functions automatically time out (shut off) after 5-6 seconds to reduce pump motor wear and prevent battery drain. FLOAT mode cancels after 20 minutes.
    • Automatic Shutdown: After approximately 22 minutes of idle time, the control automatically turns off. The indicator light blinks from red to green. To restart, turn the control OFF and then back ON.
    • Soft Stop: The control allows the LaneBlade® to coast to a soft stop, resulting in smoother operation and decreased wear on the hydraulic system.
  • UNSTOWED Indicator: A notification light on the dash alerts the driver when the LaneBlade® is unstowed.
  • Camera System: Includes one camera and an in-cab video touch screen monitor. The camera is wired to the vehicle's ignition and operates when the ignition is on. The camera must show the correct fields of view (including the maul board) for safe operation.
  • Optional DVR System: Records video in the background when the vehicle's ignition is on. Footage can be viewed by removing the SD card from the monitor and inserting it into a computer. User login (provided by J-Tech) is required to view live streams. Disabling or tampering with recording equipment is unlawful.
  • Safe Deployment Speed Control: The LaneBlade® will not deploy if the vehicle is traveling more than 20 mph to prevent high-speed impacts. Speed can be adjusted after deployment.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Do not exceed 20 mph with the LaneBlade® deployed or when making contact with debris.
    • Always check the area around the vehicle for bystanders or equipment before moving.
    • Wear a seatbelt when pushing debris.
    • Push debris with wings in their fully deployed position.
    • Avoid obstructions and uneven pavement (buckled pavement, expansion joints, speed bumps, raised manhole covers).
    • Be alert for other vehicles, use mirrors, and signal intentions.
    • Ensure the vehicle is equipped with a type "ABC" fire extinguisher, and operators are trained in its use.
    • Always check with safety department and local authorities for vehicle operation in the work zone.
    • Obey all posted traffic signs, speed limits, and authorities.
