CAUTION: JBL PROTEMP e300 and e500 are in-line heaters to be installed in the water
outlet hose (pressure side) of an external lter or circulating pump outside the aquar-
ium. Never immerse them in water! This unit contains a glass heating element. Please
handle with the necessary caution.
1 Switch o the external lter and empty the outlet hose. Sever the outlet hose so that
there is enough hose length to position the ow heater as vertically or slightly in-
clined as possible. (Fig. A).
2 Select the hose connections that match the hose of your lter and screw them to
both ends of the heater. The connections for hose 12/16 are already installed. Slide
the severed hose ends onto the connections as far as they will go. Turn the lock nuts
counterclockwise until the hose is rmly seated. Pay attention to the ow direction
marked by arrows on the heater housing. Attach the heater to the suspension loop
provided for this purpose in as vertical a position as possible with the ow direction
pointing upwards (Fig. B).
6.2 Electrical connection
1 Put the external lter back into operation and ensure that all air escapes from the
heater. Trapped air bubbles can cause a safety shutdown of the heater.
2 Make sure that the mains voltage matches the voltage indicated on the heater name-
plate. Then connect the heater to the mains.
