Overview

The Potter Outdoor Wall Light is a Class 1 product designed for outdoor use, providing illumination for exterior spaces. It is non-dimmable and requires a 5-amp fused circuit for connection. The light fitting is suitable for installation on surfaces with normal flammability, such as wood, plasterboard, or masonry, but not on highly flammable surfaces like polystyrene or textiles.

Function Description

The primary function of the Potter Outdoor Wall Light is to provide ambient lighting for outdoor environments. It is designed to house a single E27 GLS (or pear shape) LED bulb, with a maximum power of 15W, to ensure maximum brightness. Lower wattage bulbs are also compatible. The product is rated IP44, indicating its suitability for outdoor conditions and protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and splashes of water from any direction.

Usage Features

  • Installation: Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with IEE Wiring regulations and Building Regulations. Before commencing any work, the mains supply must be switched off to prevent electric shock. The fitting is secured to a wall using a fixing bracket, which serves as a template for marking mounting holes. Wall plugs and screws are supplied for this purpose. Care must be taken to avoid damaging wiring or pipes when drilling holes. Once the fixing bracket is secured, the light fitting is re-attached to it using screws, rubber washers, and finials.
  • Bulb Replacement: The light requires a single E27 GLS bulb. When replacing a bulb, ensure the power supply is switched off. Replacement bulbs should be of the same type and rating as specified, and can be sourced from John Lewis & Partners or other established brands.
  • Shade Management: The shade (A) is removed by undoing top (B) and bottom (C) screws and washers. When refitting the shade, it's important to ensure the drain hole (J) is at the bottom. The shade must always be attached when the product is in use. Do not use the product if the shade is cracked or damaged.
  • Troubleshooting: If the light does not work after switching on, first check if the power supply is switched on. Then, turn off the light and verify that the bulb is correctly inserted and still in working order. For persistent technical issues, contact John Lewis & Partners Technical Support.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: The fitting should be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. Abrasive chemical cleaners should not be used as they can damage the finish. For glass parts, a damp cloth is suitable; abrasive materials should be avoided to prevent damage or injury.
  • Handling: The product contains delicate parts, so care should be taken during handling and maintenance to avoid breakage. When changing lightbulbs, cleaning, or removing shades, always switch off the power supply and handle with care to prevent injury.
  • Durability and Guarantee: The Potter Outdoor Wall Light is tested to high-quality standards and comes with a 5-year guarantee, reflecting its expected durability and reliability.
  • End-of-Life Recycling: The product is marked with a symbol indicating that it should not be treated as normal household waste. Instead, it should be recycled. John Lewis & Partners, as members of the Distributor Take Back scheme, have funded the development and upgrade of recycling facilities across the UK. Users are advised to take the product to their nearest collection facility or contact their local council for details on recycling. Further information can be found at www.recycle-more.co.uk.
  • Safety Precautions: Always ensure the mains supply is switched off before installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting the fitting. Ensure that no other persons can restore the electrical supply without your knowledge. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician. When making electrical connections, ensure house wires are correctly identified, connections are tight, and no loose strands are left out of the connection block. The lid and seal over the terminal block must be closed securely.
