Function Description:

The JVC colour televisions are designed for viewing television programmes and external video sources. Usage Features:

  • Connecting the TV: The manual provides instructions for connecting the aerial (VHF/UHF outdoor aerial or indoor aerial) and external devices like VCRs, camcorders, and game consoles using RCA cables. It also details connecting the power cord and inserting batteries into the remote control.
  • Turning the TV On/Off: The TV can be turned on using the Main power button on the TV or the POWER button on the remote control. It enters standby mode when turned off via the remote. To completely power off, the Main power button on the TV must be used.
  • Language Selection: Users can select an on-screen display language (e.g., English) from the MENU 3 menu.
  • Presettling TV Stations: The TV supports up to 100 channels (channel 1 to 99 and channel AV). Automatic and manual channel presetting methods are described, including options to skip unwanted channels.
  • Basic Operation (Remote Control RM-C90):
    • Channel Selection: Use CHANNEL -/+ or Number buttons.
    • Volume Adjustment: Use VOLUME –/+.
    • Colour System Adjustment: If the colour is abnormal, repeatedly press the COLOUR SYSTEM button to select the appropriate system (AUTO, PAL, SECAM, NTSC4.43, NTSC3.58).
    • Sound System Adjustment: If the sound is abnormal, repeatedly press the SOUND SYSTEM button to select the appropriate system (B/G, I, D/K).
    • Eco Sensor (AV-1414EE does not have this function): Automatically adjusts screen contrast based on room brightness. Modes include DIGITAL ECO SENSOR DISPLAY (shows brightness marks), DIGITAL ECO SENSOR (works without marks), and DIGITAL ECO SENSOR OFF.
    • Muting: Instantly turns off volume using the MUTING button.
    • Display: Continuously displays current channel number or VIDEO mode.
    • Off Timer: Sets the TV to turn off automatically within a specified period (up to 120 minutes in 10-minute increments).
    • Picture Mode: Selects one of three picture adjustment modes: BRIGHT (heightens contrast/sharpness), STANDARD (standardizes), or SOFT (softens).
    • Channel Scan: Searches for and displays all viewable channels.
    • Return +: Allows quick return to a previously viewed channel.
  • Using the TV's Menus:
    • On Timer: Sets the TV to turn on automatically at a specified time.
    • Input: Selects the VIDEO mode for external devices.
    • VNR (Video Noise Reduction): Reduces picture noise.
    • Child Lock: Disables front control buttons to prevent unauthorized use.
    • Auto Shutoff: Turns off the TV if no signals are received for about 15 minutes or longer.

    • Basic Operation: Selects TV channel with teletext, switches to teletext mode, and selects teletext pages using number or coloured buttons.
    • Display Cancel: Returns to normal TV programme while scanning for a teletext page.
    • Page Hold: Temporarily holds a teletext page.
    • Hidden Information Reveal: Reveals hidden information on teletext pages.
    • Index Return: Returns to the index page (Fastext/WST or LIST mode).
    • Sub Page Display: Views sub-pages of teletext.
    • Display Size: Doubles the height of the teletext display.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive section addresses common issues such as no picture/sound, remote control inoperability, abnormal colour/sound, lines/streaks in picture, snowy picture, and teletext problems. It provides solutions like checking connections, adjusting settings, and replacing batteries.
  • General Advice:
    • For optimal performance, ensure the aerial is correctly connected and in good condition.
    • If the remote control does not work, check and replace batteries. Use AA/R6/UM-3 dry cell batteries.
    • If the TV is not used for a long time or to save energy, turn off the main power using the Main power button on the TV.
    • The manual emphasizes that if a still bright image (of a white dress, for example) appears on the screen, the image may be coloured. This problem occurs in all CRTs, and when the bright image disappears, the colouration also disappears.
    • If the TV is equipped with a microcomputer that may operate abnormally due to interference from external devices, it is advised to press the Main power button to turn the main power off and disconnect the power plug from the AC outlet. Then, reconnect the power plug to the AC outlet and press the Main power button again.
