Function Description:
The Kalamazoo Industries Model 2FSM and 2FSMV are belt sanders designed for various sanding applications. The 2FSMV model includes an integrated vacuum base (DCV-4) for dust collection, enhancing cleanliness and safety during operation. The primary function of these machines is to abrade surfaces using a continuous abrasive belt, suitable for tasks ranging from material removal to finishing.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Models: 2FSM (Belt Sander) and 2FSMV (Belt Sander with Vacuum Base).
- Motor: 1/2 HP, 1 Phase (for the 2FSM).
- Sanding Belt: 2" x 48" (standard size).
- Abrasive Belt Rotation: Counter-clockwise. Butt spliced belts are bi-directional, while lap spliced belts require correct rotation.
- Belt Tension: Pre-set with an internal spring (item 10 in the 2FSM parts list), no adjustment required.
- Vacuum Base (DCV-4):
- Dimensions: 12"L x 16"W x 32"H.
- Filter Type: Cloth filter (part number 5X878 or 5X878FP for fire-proof cloth filter).
- Components: Vacuum cabinet, S4S top, DS10 top, mounting panel, door, vacuum motor, canister, cord clamp, cord, toggle switch, foot, hex nuts, H.C.S screws, thumb screws, and sheet metal screws.
Usage Features:
- Power Disconnection: Always disconnect power before making any adjustments or changing the belt.
- Belt Changing:
- Loosen the tracking knob (9).
- Open the OSHA guard (7).
- Compress the spring belt tension by pushing down on the idler shaft (2).
- Remove the old belt and replace it with a new one.
- Belt Tracking:
- With power disconnected, rotate the belt by hand to center or "track" it.
- Rotate knob (9) and collar (11) left or right to adjust the idler shaft (2) and track the belt.
- Re-lock knob (9) to secure belt tracking.
- Close the OSHA guard (7).
- Safety Guidelines:
- Wear safety glasses or a full face shield.
- Keep hands clear of the sanding area.
- Avoid wearing gloves or loose-fitting clothing.
- Keep hair tied back or covered.
- Allow the machine to come to a full stop before changing the belt.
- Keep safety guards in place; do not alter them.
- Operate in a well-ventilated area; dust masks are recommended.
- Direct sparks downward and away from the face and body.
- Do not grind near flammable materials.
- Not intended for use in or near water or on wet floors.
Maintenance Features:
- 2FSM Belt Sander Maintenance (Monthly, depending on usage):
- Thorough Cleaning: Disassemble the sander for a complete cleaning procedure.
- Debris Removal: Use an air nozzle or a stiff bristle brush to knock off debris from all moving parts, specifically:
- Upper pulley (936-030)
- Lower pulley (936-007)
- Idler shaft (645-008)
- Tracking collar (123-004)
- A "Sign Off Sheet" is provided to record cleaning dates.
- DCV-4 Vacuum Maintenance (Monthly, depending on usage; weekly for heavy use):
- Thorough Vacuum Cleaning: Clean the vacuum unit weekly, or more often with heavy use.
- Cloth Filter Replacement: Replace the cloth filter bag often.
- Material Switching: Always change the cloth filter bag before switching between different materials to prevent fire hazards.
- Replacement Filter Part Number: 5X878.
- A "Sign Off Sheet" is provided to record cleaning dates.
Warranty and Return Policy:
- Warranty: All products are guaranteed for one year against defects in material and workmanship. Electric motors are warranted by the motor manufacturer. Non-repairable motors will be replaced by Kalamazoo Industries. Contact for instructions.
- Return Policy:
- Authorization is required before returning merchandise; obtain an RGA number from customer service (269-382-2050).
- Include a copy of the invoice or packing slip.
- Materials must be sent back prepaid (unless otherwise indicated).
- All returns are subject to a 10% restocking charge.
- No returns accepted after one year from the invoice date.
- Do not return goods without an RGA number and shipping instructions.
