Overview

This document is a user manual for a Kärcher 620 M pressure washer, providing essential information for its safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Kärcher 620 M is a high-pressure cleaner designed for various cleaning tasks, including machines, vehicles, buildings, tools, facades, terraces, and garden equipment. It can be used with or without detergent, and a dirt blaster attachment is recommended for stubborn dirt. The appliance incorporates a pressure-operated switch and an overflow valve as safety devices. When the hand-held spray gun is closed, the overflow valve switches off the appliance via the pressure-operated switch, preventing the maximum allowable working pressure from being exceeded.

Important Technical Specifications

Power Connection:

  • Voltage: 115 V
  • Type of current: 1~60 Hz

  • Supply rate (min.): 2.5 gpm
  • Supply hose length (min.): 25 ft
  • Supply hose diameter (min.): 1/2 in
  • Suction height from open tank at 68°F: 3 ft
  • Supply pressure (max.): 170 psi

Performance Data:

  • Pressure: 300 - 1300 psi
  • Flow rate: 1.7 gpm
  • Detergent intake: 0-7 gph
  • Recoil force of hand-held spray gun at operating pressure (max.): 19 N

The device is equipped with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) built into the power supply cord for electric shock protection. It requires a 3-wire extension cord with grounding-type plugs and connectors, suitable for outdoor use and with an electrical rating not less than that of the product.

Usage Features

Starting and Operation:

  1. Water Connection: Connect the quick coupler female to a garden hose and the quick coupler male to the appliance's water connection. Then, connect a water supply hose to the appliance and the water pipe. For suction from an open container, a suction hose with a filter (order no. 4.440-238) must be attached directly to the appliance, and the pump should operate without the high-pressure hose until water appears at the outlet without bubbles.
  2. Hand-held Spray Gun: Connect the high-pressure hose to the high-pressure outlet. The safety ratchet prevents unintentional opening of the gun lever.
  3. Spray Wand with Pressure Regulator: Push the spray wand into the gun's bayonet connector and rotate it 90° until it clicks into place. The working pressure can be adjusted by turning the spray lance.
  4. High-pressure Operation: Open the water supply, release the safety ratchet, pull the gun lever, and turn on the appliance switch. The motor starts only when the gun lever is pulled.
  5. Detergent Operation: Fill the 0.2 USgal detergent tank, set the spray lance to the lowest working pressure (high pressure prevents detergent intake), and adjust the detergent dosing valve to the desired rate. Recommended cleaning method involves loosening dirt with sparingly applied detergent for 1-4 minutes, then spraying off with high-pressure. Only manufacturer-approved detergents should be used.
  6. Washing Brush: Attach the washing brush to the gun's bayonet connection by pressing and rotating 90° until it locks. The brush is suitable for water temperatures up to 100 °F.

Switching Off and Storage:

  1. After using detergent, rinse the appliance by setting the metering valve to "0" and flushing for approximately 1 minute with the gun open.
  2. Switch off the appliance, disconnect the power plug, close the water inlet, and detach the appliance from the water connection.
  3. Pull the trigger until pressure is relieved, then secure it with the safety ratchet.
  4. For storage, fold the transport bracket onto the appliance and stand it vertically. The spray gun, washing brush, and spray lance can be inserted into retainers on the bracket. The transport bracket can be secured with two locking mechanisms. The connection lead can be wound over retractable holders.

Maintenance Features

Monthly or As Required Maintenance:

  • Clean the filter in the detergent tank.
  • Clean the high-pressure nozzle by removing dirt with a needle and rinsing from the front.
  • Clean the strainer in the water connection, which can be removed with flat-nosed pliers.

Frost Protection:

  • To prevent damage, the appliance must be completely emptied of water and ideally stored in a frost-free room.

Troubleshooting (Self-Help):

  • Appliance does not Work: Check voltage, connector cable for damage, and allow the motor to cool if overheated.
  • Appliance does not reach Operational Pressure: Set spray wand to maximum pressure, ventilate the appliance, clean the water connection strainer, check inlet water flow, and inspect inlet pipes for leaks or blockages.
  • Strong Pressure Fluctuations: Clean the high-pressure nozzle.
  • Pump Leaks: Up to 3 drops per minute are permissible. For more serious leakage, contact authorized customer service.
  • No Detergent Suction: Set spray wand to minimum working pressure, clean the detergent tank filter, and clean the ventilation hole in the detergent tank cover.

For all other malfunctions or electrical faults, contact authorized customer service at 1–800–537-4129. Always disconnect the appliance from the power mains before any repair work. Only authorized personnel should inspect electrical components.
