This document provides instructions for the Kenwood Slow Cooker, model CP657. It covers safety guidelines, usage instructions, recipes, and care and cleaning information.
The Kenwood Slow Cooker CP657 is designed to cook food slowly over several hours, allowing for tender and flavourful results. It features a base unit with a heating element, a removable cooking pot, and a lid. The appliance offers three cooking settings: Low, High, and Auto.
The Low setting is ideal for gradually cooking food over approximately 8 hours, suitable for more delicate dishes like baked apples or poached fruit. The High setting speeds up the cooking process, with typical cooking times ranging from 3 to 5 hours. The Auto function is designed to have food ready in 8-10 hours. When selected, the slow cooker initially cooks on High power until the food reaches the desired cooking temperature, then automatically switches to Low power to maintain a constant low cooking temperature.
The slow cooker is intended for domestic use and is suitable for preparing a variety of dishes, including stews, casseroles, soups, and even desserts. It is particularly useful for preparing meals with minimal supervision, as it cooks food gently and consistently.
Before First Use: Before using the slow cooker for the first time, all removable parts (lid and cooking pot) should be washed according to the cleaning instructions. Ensure that your electricity supply matches the specifications on the underside of the appliance. The appliance must be earthed.
Operating the Slow Cooker:
Recipe Adaptation Tips: When adapting conventional recipes for the slow cooker, it may be necessary to reduce the amount of liquid, as liquid does not evaporate as quickly in slow cooking. However, a certain amount of liquid is essential for heat transfer. Never fill the slow cooker more than two-thirds full. Milk products, such as cream, sour cream, and yoghurt, should be added towards the end of cooking to prevent curdling. Frozen vegetables like peas should be thawed and added during the last half hour of cooking to retain colour, texture, and temperature. For best results, ingredients should be covered in liquid. Excess fat should be trimmed from meat. Multiple dishes can be cooked simultaneously in heat-proof dishes, covered with foil, and placed in hot water within the cooking pot. When cooking whole joints, ensure they fit comfortably and always add liquid, turning them halfway through the cooking process. Using hot stock can speed up cooking. To thicken gravy, mix cornflour with cold water to form a paste and add it to the cooking pot towards the end of cooking, cooking until bubbling and thickened.
Food Safety:
Care and Cleaning: Always switch off, unplug, and allow the appliance to cool completely before cleaning.
Safety Precautions:
Disposal: At the end of its working life, the product must not be disposed of as urban waste. It should be taken to a special local authority differentiated waste collection centre or to a dealer providing this service, in accordance with the European Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
