Overview

This document provides a comprehensive guide to the features and functions of the 2018 Kia Cadenza, focusing on various technological and operational aspects of the vehicle. It serves as a supplement to the owner's manual, multimedia system manuals, features and functions guide, and quick start guide.

Voice Recognition and Bluetooth®

The vehicle incorporates Bluetooth® wireless technology for voice recognition (VR) and phone connectivity. To optimize VR performance, users are advised to use full names for contacts (e.g., "John Smith" instead of "Dad"), avoid special characters, emojis, hyphens, acronyms, and all-capital-letter words. Words should be spelled completely, and users should wait for a beep before speaking commands. A natural, moderate tone and clear pronunciation are recommended for placing calls. Environmental factors like open windows, sunroof, or high A/C fan speeds can interfere with VR accuracy. The system may also have difficulty understanding certain accents or uncommon names. A "Help" command provides a list of available commands.

For phone pairing, users must accept all requests for phonebook download and future auto-connection on their phone. Troubleshooting for auto-connection issues includes rebooting the phone, updating its operating system, deleting and re-pairing the phone from both the UVO display and the phone itself, and ensuring Bluetooth® is activated on the phone. If contacts are not downloading correctly, users should verify that contacts are stored under supported categories (HOME, MOBILE, WORK, iPhone®) and that only the "phone contact list" is selected for download, not social media or email lists. The document notes that phone operating systems change frequently, affecting compatibility, and advises contacting a Kia dealer or Kia Consumer Assistance for support. Bluetooth® reception is influenced by carrier coverage and phone dependency. When streaming audio, the device's listening volume should be turned up.

Connecting to Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™

The vehicle supports Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ for enhanced smartphone integration.

  • Apple CarPlay™: Allows iPhone® users to make calls, send hands-free texts, access music and apps, and use Siri® for navigation. Connection instructions are provided via a YouTube link: https://youtu.be/N1FQ1VqDt4A.
  • Android Auto™: Enables Android™ phone users to access music, the phone's dialer, and navigation through the UVO display, utilizing an intuitive interface and voice commands, including steering wheel controls. Connection instructions are provided via a YouTube link: https://youtu.be/QPV7y06-RJ4.

Satellite Radio Reception

Satellite radio reception requires a direct line of sight with the transmitting satellite. Obstacles such as tunnels, bridges, covered parking, mountainous terrain, tall buildings, and heavy foliage can temporarily interrupt the signal. This is considered normal operation, with reception expected to restore within seconds in an open, unobstructed area. Signal weakness may occur in areas not covered by the satellite repeater network.

USB Ports and Use of Cables

The vehicle includes USB port(s) for playing music from compatible media devices and for charging. Devices will only charge when the vehicle is in ACC/ON/Start position. If a USB device is difficult to plug in, users should try changing its orientation. It is recommended to use USB charging cables certified by the phone manufacturer, as aftermarket cables may affect functionality.

AUTO-HOLD*

The AUTO-HOLD feature temporarily maintains the vehicle at a standstill even when the brake pedal is released. It can be turned ON/OFF using the AUTO HOLD switch on the driver's panel. For AUTO-HOLD to operate, the driver's door, engine hood, and trunk must be closed, and the driver's seat belt must be fastened. The AUTO-HOLD indicator has four states:

  • White (Standby): Illuminates white when the vehicle is at a standstill and AUTO HOLD is ON. Remains white while driving.
  • Green (Engaged): Changes from white to green when the vehicle comes to a complete stop by depressing the brake pedal.
  • OFF (not illuminated): Turns OFF when AUTO HOLD is manually turned OFF or when the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) is manually turned ON.
  • Yellow (Malfunction): Indicates a system malfunction, requiring a visit to a Kia dealer.

Accessory Mode with Smart Key

For Smart Key-equipped vehicles, accessory mode can be activated without starting the engine. With the Smart Key inside the vehicle, push the ENGINE START/STOP button once without depressing the brake pedal. This illuminates "ACC" in yellow. If the ENGINE START/STOP button remains in ACC for over an hour, it automatically turns off to prevent battery discharge.

Smart Trunk/Smart Power Trunk Operation*

To open the Smart Power Trunk*, press and hold the Smart Key Trunk button until it begins opening. To close, push the button on the rear deck lid, push the Smart Key Trunk button again, or push and hold the button on the dash panel (left of the steering wheel). When the Smart Key fob is near the back of the vehicle, the hazard lights will blink and a chime will sound for about 3 seconds as an alert before opening. The alert system will then blink and chime two additional times. The Smart Trunk* feature is OFF by default and can be enabled in User Settings in the LCD Instrument Cluster modes. The valet switch in the glove compartment must be "off-unlocked" for this feature to work.

Front Seat Headrest Adjustment

To raise the headrest, pull it up. To lower it, press the lock button and then push the headrest down.

Head-Up Display (HUD)*

The Head-Up Display (HUD) projects information from the instrument cluster and navigation system onto the windshield. Drivers can turn the HUD display ON or OFF in User Settings. The HUD displays:

  • Turn By Turn (TBT) navigation information
  • Road signs
  • Speedometer
  • Cruise setting speed
  • Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC) information*
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD) system information*
  • Warning lights (low fuel, BSD)
  • AV Mode information

HUD Display Settings, adjustable from the LCD Instrument Cluster modes in User Settings, include:

  • Display Height: Adjusts the height of the HUD image.
  • Rotation: Adjusts the degree of HUD rotation.
  • Brightness: Adjusts the intensity of the HUD brightness.
  • Contents Select: Activates or deactivates HUD content (TBT, ASCC, LDWS, BSD).
  • Speedometer Size: Chooses the size of the HUD speedometer (Small, Medium, Large).
  • Speedometer Color: Chooses the color of the HUD speedometer (White, Amber, Green). A warning emphasizes that failure to pay attention to travel conditions and vehicle operation can result in loss of vehicle control, urging safe driving and caution.

Wind Buffeting

In many vehicles, opening a rear window while front windows are closed can induce pressure oscillations or pulsations, which may be uncomfortable. To relieve these, users should slightly open the front window(s) when opening the rear window(s).

*Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)³

The LDWS*³ issues a warning on the LCD screen if an unintentional lane departure is detected. With the Engine Start/Stop button in the ON position, pressing the LDWS³ button turns the system ON, illuminating the LDWS³ icon in green. Pressing it again cancels the system. When the vehicle exceeds approximately 40 mph and the LDWS³ system recognizes the lane, the lane indicators turn solid white. If the vehicle drifts, the lane indicator changes from solid white to solid yellow, accompanied by an audible alert.

Check Engine Light from Fuel Cap

If the Check Engine Light illuminates, tighten the fuel cap until it clicks once. The Fuel Filler Door Release button is located on the driver's side lower dash, next to the trunk release.

Drive Mode Integrated Control System*

The Drive Mode Integrated Control System* and Smart Mode automatically select the optimum driving mode among Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Smart modes by detecting and learning the driver's driving style in real time (e.g., accelerator pedal use, steering wheel input). To cycle through the different Drive Modes, press the DRIVE MODE button. The Instrument Cluster displays the current mode selected.

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)/Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS)*

  • AEB: Works independently to apply brakes in critical situations, helping prevent or lessen frontal collisions. It activates when the vehicle travels over 5 mph. AEB is ON by default when vehicle power is cycled, even if previously turned OFF. It can be deactivated in User Settings in the LCD Instrument Cluster modes.
  • FCWS: Uses front-mounted radar to detect potential collisions with the car ahead, providing audible warnings and visual signals on the meter display. Warning: Both systems are not substitutes for safe driving and may not detect all objects. Users must always drive safely and use caution. FCWS will not operate when the vehicle is traveling more than approximately 50 mph.

Rear Parking Assist System*

This supplemental system assists the driver by chiming if an object is detected in the sensing area to the rear and side of the vehicle when backing up. It activates when the ignition is ON and the vehicle is in Reverse. If the vehicle moves at speeds over 3 mph, the system may not activate correctly. If more than two objects are sensed, the closest one is recognized first. Warning: This system is not a substitute for proper and safe backing-up procedures. Users must always drive safely and use caution. The system may not detect every object behind the vehicle.

Windshield Defogging

Windshield fogging is caused by moisture condensing on cold glass. To reduce fogging:

  • Keep the inside of the glass clean.
  • Utilize Defrost Mode, which activates the A/C and opens the Fresh Air Vent.
  • Adjust the Temperature Control to the desired temperature.

Wireless Smartphone Charging System

A compatible mobile phone can be charged wirelessly by placing it on the tray at the front of the console, near the USB/Aux ports and the charging indicator, while the ignition is ON. For best results, the smartphone should be placed on the center of the charging pad. If wireless charging doesn't work, move the smartphone around the pad until the charging indicator turns amber. Avoid placing other metal items in the bin during charging to prevent interference.

Condensation Inside Exterior Vehicle Lights

Exterior lights with clear lenses are vented to release pressure as air heats and cools. When humid/moist air enters the headlight/tail light, moisture may condense on the lens surface, appearing as fogging or water droplets. This is normal and will evaporate when the lights are ON or when the temperature increases.

Seat Warmers / Ventilated Seats*

These seats offer both warming and ventilating functions:

  • Press the left (ventilate) or right (warm) button once for high setting (3 LEDs lit).
  • Press twice for medium setting (2 LEDs lit).
  • Press a third time for low setting (1 LED lit).
  • Press again to turn OFF. When the seat warmer switch is ON, the heating system automatically turns OFF or ON based on seat temperature.

Driver Position Memory System*

To store a seating position:

  1. Place the shifter in P (Park) with the ignition switch ON.
  2. Adjust the driver's seat and outside rearview mirror.
  3. Press the SET button on the control panel (system beeps once).
  4. Press one of the memory buttons ("1" or "2") within 5 seconds (system beeps twice).
  5. "Driver (1 or 2) set is memorized" appears on the instrument cluster LCD display. Note: Position of leg extension cannot be memorized.

*Blind-Spot Detection (BSD) System/Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

The BSD system*⁴ and RCTA use radar sensors to alert the driver when changing lanes or backing up. When the BSD⁴ button is pressed ON, its indicator illuminates, and the outside rearview mirror warning lights illuminate for 3 seconds. The system activates when the vehicle travels more than 18 mph and alerts the driver if another vehicle is detected by the radar sensor.

Windshield Wiper Servicing Position

To place wipers in servicing position:

  1. Turn the vehicle ignition ON with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn the ignition OFF.
  3. Within 20 seconds after turning the ignition OFF, raise the wiper blade control stalk and hold it for more than two seconds.
  4. The wiper arms will move upward and stop in the fully vertical position, allowing them to be moved away from the windshield for cleaning or servicing.
  5. Once servicing is complete, turn the vehicle ignition ON with the engine OFF.
  6. Move the wiper blade control stalk up to return the wipers to the "parked" position.
  7. Finally, turn the vehicle ignition to the OFF position.
