Overview

This document describes the KidKraft Ainsley Play System (F24145), a residential outdoor play system designed for children aged 3 to 10, with a maximum weight limit of 110 lbs (49.9 kg) per child and a capacity for up to 6 users. The assembly is estimated to take 4-8 hours with two people.

Function Description:

The KidKraft Ainsley Play System provides a multi-functional play environment for children. It features a fort structure, a slide, and a swing beam with two belt swings. The fort includes a rock wall for climbing, a chalk wall for creative play, and a canopy roof for shade. The system is designed to encourage active play, imaginative scenarios, and physical development in a safe, residential setting.

  • Canopy: Andorra Tarp Set, with canopy tubes and holders.
  • Ground Stakes: 1-1/4" x 1-1/2" x 14" ground stakes for anchoring.
  • Rocks: 4 green rocks for the rock wall.

Usage Features:

  • Residential Use Only: Explicitly stated as not intended for public areas such as schools, churches, nurseries, day cares, or parks.
  • Adult Supervision Required: Continuous adult supervision is mandatory to reduce the risk of serious injuries.
  • Protective Surfacing: Requires shock-absorbing material under and around the play equipment, with specific depth and extension guidelines based on ASTM F1292. Loose-fill materials (wood mulch/chips, engineered wood fiber, sand, pea gravel) or poured-in-place/pre-manufactured rubber tiles are recommended. Concrete, asphalt, dirt, grass, carpet, and thin mats are not considered adequate.
  • Level Ground Installation: Must be placed on level ground to prevent tipping and ensure surfacing materials do not wash away.
  • Obstruction Clearance: Should be placed at least 2m from any obstructions like buildings, fences, trees, and electrical wires.
  • Clothing and Helmet Restrictions: Children should not wear loose-fitting clothing, ponchos, hoods, scarves, capes, necklaces, items with draw-strings, cords, ties, or bike/sport helmets to prevent strangulation.
  • Footwear: Children should wear well-fitting, full-foot enclosing footwear. Open-toe or heel footwear (sandals, flip-flops, clogs) are not allowed.
  • Swing Safety: Children should sit with their full weight in the center of the swing seat. Twisting swing chains or ropes, looping them over the top support bar, or getting off while in motion is prohibited. Empty swings should not be swung.
  • Slide Safety: Children should not go down head first or run up the slide. The slide should be oriented to minimize sun exposure.
  • Hot Surfaces: On sunny/hot days, plastic rides (like the slide) should be checked for excessive heat and cooled with water if necessary.
  • Wet Equipment: Climbing on equipment when wet is not permitted.
  • Rough Play: Rough play or unintended use of equipment (e.g., standing/jumping from elevated surfaces) is dangerous and prohibited.
  • Anchoring: The unit must be properly anchored with ground stakes driven 10-1/2" into the ground to prevent tipping. Users are warned to check for underground wiring, cables, or gas lines before digging.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspections:
    • Beginning of Play Season: Check metal parts for rust (sand and repaint with non-lead paint if found), inspect and tighten all hardware (do not overtighten on wood), check for sharp edges/protruding screw threads (add washers if needed), check shock-absorbing surfacing for foreign objects, depth, and compaction (rake and replenish as needed), check ground stakes for looseness/damage (re-secure/replace), check swing hangers for security and orientation (lubricate if squeaking), check all moving parts (swings, ropes, chains) for wear, rust, deterioration (replace as needed), check ropes for tightness/security (prevent entrapment), check wood members for deterioration, structural damage, splinters (sand down splinters, replace deteriorated members).
    • Twice a Month (during play season): Inspect hardware for tightness (do not overtighten), check for sharp edges/protruding screw threads (add washers if needed).
    • Once a Month (during play season): Check swing hangers for security, orientation, and lubrication. Check swing seats, ropes, chains, and attachments for fraying, wear, corrosion, or damage (replace if structurally damaged).
    • End of Play Season: Remove swings and store indoors if temperatures drop below 32°F/0°C to prevent plastic parts from becoming brittle. Check shock-absorbing surfacing depth and compaction.
  • Wood Weathering: Wood is susceptible to weathering (checking, warping, fading) due to moisture and sunlight. These changes are normal and do not affect structural strength.
  • Water Repellent/Stain: Periodic application of an exterior water repellent or water-based stain is recommended yearly to improve appearance and life.
  • Warning Labels: Owners are responsible for maintaining the legibility of all warning labels.
  • Disposal: When disposing of the play set, it should be disassembled to prevent unreasonable hazards, following local waste ordinances.
  • Warranty: A 5-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for one year, and lumber is warranted for 5 years against structural failure due to rot and insect damage. Other parts (hardware, swings, rides, accessories, slides) have a one-year warranty. The warranty is for residential use only and does not cover labor, incidental/consequential damages, cosmetic defects, vandalism, improper use/installation, acts of nature, or minor natural wood properties. Modifications void the warranty.
  • Parts Replacement: Instructions provide contact information for customer service in the USA and Europe for missing or damaged parts, and links to online parts replacement portals.
  • Assembly Instructions: 3D-guided interactive assembly instructions are available via the BILT app. The manual also provides detailed step-by-step instructions with diagrams, hardware identification, and tips for efficient assembly (e.g., sorting wood parts by key number). Pre-drilling pilot holes for lag screws is emphasized to prevent wood splitting. Proper hardware assembly (e.g., T-nut insertion, bolt tightening without crushing wood) is detailed.
