This document describes the KILEWS Automatic Industrial Cordless Brushless Power Torque Screwdrivers Series (SKC-PTA-BS20, SKC-PTA-BS30, SKC-PTA-BS45), an operation and maintenance manual for rechargeable, automatic brushless screwdrivers.
Function Description
The KILEWS cordless brushless power torque screwdrivers are designed for industrial applications, providing automatic shut-off when the screw reaches a preset torque level. This prevents over-tightening and damage to the workpiece. The tools feature a Forward/Reverse lever for both tightening and loosening screws. They are equipped with various protection mechanisms including over-electric current protection, thermal protection, slow rotation protection, battery identification, low power prevention, stall protection, reverse control protection, and sleep & power saving mode.
The screwdrivers operate with a trigger switch: pressing it about one-third down illuminates LED lights, and pressing it halfway down starts the screwdriver's function. Releasing the trigger or reaching the set torque stops the operation. A Hi/Lo speed setting is available, allowing operators to adjust the rotating speed. The Hi setting provides the fastest rotation, while the Lo setting offers slower rotation. The device also includes OK/NG/Power/Hi&Lo indicating lights to provide feedback on operational status, battery level, and protection activations.

Usage Features
Battery Installation and Removal:
Batteries are inserted by aligning with the device and pushing in the direction of the arrow. To remove, the release button is pressed, and the battery is pulled out.
Torque Adjustment:
Torque is adjusted using the Torque Adjustment Ring. Turning it counter-clockwise increases torque output, while turning it clockwise decreases it. The ring has markings from 0 (minimum torque) to 8 (maximum torque). It is crucial not to turn the ring below 0 or above 8 to prevent the clutch from getting stuck. Final torque adjustment should be verified with a torque wrench on the actual job.
Bit Sleeve:
The bit sleeve allows for easy switching of bits. To install a bit, the head of the screwdriver is pulled, the bit inserted, and then pushed in.
Forward/Reverse Lever:
This lever controls the direction of rotation. Pushing it to the right enables clockwise screwing (tightening), and pushing it to the left enables counter-clockwise rotation (unscrewing). For safety and to lock the trigger, the lever should be set to the center position when the screwdriver is not in use or during maintenance.
Hi/Lo Speed Switch:
To change speed, the Forward/Reverse lever is pushed to the middle position, released for about 0.5 seconds, and then the trigger switch is pressed for 5 seconds. A short beep sound indicates the adjustment. When the power/Hi&Lo indicating light is off, it signifies the Hi position. When the blue indicating light is constantly lit, it signifies the Lo position. Note that uncompleted shut-off may occur in Lo speed if the presetting torque exceeds 50% of the torque range.
Indicating Lights (OK/NG/Power/Hi&Lo):
These LEDs provide visual feedback on the tool's status:
- Start: No lights (running), blue (stop).
- Release switch to stop running: Red (running), blue (stop).
- Screw reaches set torque: Green (running), blue (stop).
- Screw NG: Red (running), blue (stop).
- Current Protection: Red (running), blue (stop).
- Low Battery Protection: When the battery is low, the red indicating light flashes and beeps continuously until the battery is depleted and the screwdriver stops. The light flashes ON/OFF and beeps 2 short, 1 long. This protection is not active if motor or PCB temperature protection is engaged.
- Temperature Protection: The red indicating light flashes and beeps 9 times.
- Sleep & Power Saving Mode: The screwdriver enters sleep mode after about 5 seconds of inactivity. Pressing the lever wakes it up. Power is cut off after more than 24 seconds of sleep, and pressing the switch restores power.
Accessories:
The device comes with a manual, waist hook, driver hook, M30.5P8L screw, 2 bits, and a guarantee card. The waist hook allows users to easily carry the device on their work belt. The driver hook and waist hook are designed for efficient use with spring balancers in production lines.
Maintenance Features
General Maintenance:
- Working Area: Keep the working area clean and well-lit to prevent accidents.
- Storage: Store devices in a safe place when not in use.
- Cleaning: Keep the tool nice and clean. Pay attention to machine grease that might ruin the tool.
- Chemicals: Avoid contact with chemicals like Acetone, Benzene, Alcohol, Thinner, Ketone, or trichloroethylene, as they can damage the screwdriver's surface.
- Physical Damage: Do not drop or shock the screwdriver.
- Qualified Repair: Do not attempt to repair or disassemble the cordless screwdriver without authorization. All repairs should be performed by an assigned factory or qualified person to maintain warranty validity and ensure proper performance. Using non-genuine KILEWS replacement parts will void the warranty and may lead to poor performance or injury.
- Battery Removal: Always remove the battery from the device when not in use or before maintenance.
- Charger Disconnection: Disconnect the plug from the power source after the charger has been used.
Specific Maintenance:
- Grease Replacement: To prevent damage to gearbox parts, replace the grease at least once a year.
- Torque Reduction Monitoring: After one month of use, the torque may gradually reduce by 2-3% or 3-5% (max torque). With longer use, torque reduction stabilizes. Users should regularly measure torque with a KILEWS torque meter (KTM-150) to ensure it meets criteria.
- Optimal Operating Temperature: The ideal operating temperature for the device is between 0°C and 35°C.
- Duty Cycle: The tool is intended for a duty cycle of 2.0 seconds ON and 5.0 seconds OFF. Overrunning the motor can cause overheating. Proper resting is recommended.
- Lubricating Oils: Based on operating frequency and torque load, it is suggested to add lubricating oils to the clutch every 3-6 months. Contact the distributor for product maintenance.
Safety Precautions:
- Read Manual: It is essential to read and understand the entire manual, including spare parts views, before using the cordless screwdriver for the first time.
- Workplace Safety: Use the device in a well-lit and clean environment. Keep children and unauthorized personnel away from the working area. Avoid distractions while using the tool.
- Explosive Environments: Do not operate the device in potentially explosive environments with inflammable liquids, gases, or dusts, as electrical sparks can ignite them.
- Operator Condition: Do not use the device if tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
- Proper Tool Use: Use the appropriate screwdriver for the task. Do not overload or misuse it for drilling or tapping.
- Dress Code: Dress properly; avoid loose clothing or jewelry that could get trapped by the tool.
- Firm Grip: Hold the device firmly with two hands before starting the trigger.
- Accessories: Use only accessories detailed in the operating instructions. Unauthorized accessories may affect device functioning and increase personal injury risk.
- Pre-Operation Check: Before operation, ensure all parts are in good condition and move freely.
- Bit Compatibility: This device is only for metal screw bits with designated dimensions and shape. Do not use it for countersinking or forcing loads on materials like plastic or wood.
- Elastic/Tensile Loads: The device is not suitable for elastic or tensile loads with washers.
- Safety Devices: Wear protective earmuffs to reduce personal injury.
- Torque Adjustment Safety: When adjusting torque, stop the screwdriver completely and set the switch to neutral to prevent accidental activation.
- Self-Protecting Mode: If the switch is accidentally changed during operation, the device will enter a self-protecting power-off mode. Restart the tool to restore function.
