  If espresso is flowing over the edge of the portafilter on your KitchenAid Coffee Maker, make sure the portafilter is completely inserted and rotated until the handle is aligned to the lock icon. Also, check for coffee grounds around the rim of the filter basket and wipe away any excess to ensure a proper seal in the group head. Finally, you might be using too much coffee in the filter basket; use a lower dose of coffee.

If the coffee puck is too dense, adjust to a larger grind size; if using a double-wall basket, clean the exit hole with a pin.

  If steam or hot water flows slowly from the steam wand, the steam wand may be partially blocked. Remove the steam wand from the espresso machine, soak it in a cleaning solution, use a pin to clear out the hole, and rinse with clear water. The machine might also need to be descaled.
