Overview

This document describes an internal power filter designed for aquariums, providing comprehensive instructions for its installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The filter is designed to maintain proper water levels and ensure clear, healthy water for aquatic environments.

Function Description

The aquarium internal power filter serves as a crucial component for maintaining water quality in an aquarium. Its primary function is to circulate and filter aquarium water, removing physical debris, organic pollutants, discolorations, odors, and heavy metals. This process helps prevent the degradation of water quality and keeps the water clear. The filter is designed to be fully submersible and operates quietly. It features a hanger bracket system that allows for adjustable positioning within the aquarium, ensuring optimal water flow and filtration efficiency. The filter's design includes a maximum, recommended, and minimum water level indicator to guide users in maintaining appropriate water levels for effective operation.

Usage Features

The filter is designed for ease of use and installation. To install, the adjustable hanger bracket must be located and attached to the filter unit. The hanger post can be placed into the filter cartridge compartment. The hanger bracket allows for 90-degree rotation and alignment onto one of the adjustment holes on the mounting post, as illustrated in the manual. This adjustability ensures the filter can be positioned optimally within various aquarium setups. A "drip loop" should be made with the power cord to prevent water from dripping into the electrical outlet, and using a GFCI outlet is recommended for safety. The filter is intended for household use only and should not be operated by children under the age of 13 without adult supervision.

For operation, it is crucial to maintain the recommended water level in the aquarium. The filter has visual indicators for maximum, recommended, and minimum water levels. Maintaining the recommended level ensures the filter functions properly and efficiently. If the water level drops below the minimum, the filter should not be run dry. The filter is designed to be fully submersible, and its operation is quiet.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the filter's optimal performance and the health of the aquarium inhabitants. The primary maintenance task involves replacing the filter cartridge. The filter cartridge should be replaced every three to four weeks, or more frequently if it becomes heavily soiled or if the water flow diminishes significantly.

To change the cartridge, the internal filter should first be unplugged from the electrical outlet to stop water flow. The soiled cartridge can then be removed. A new cartridge should be rinsed under running tap water before being placed into the filter and plugging the unit back into the electrical outlet. The filter uses Koller Products Filter Cartridges XS (AQ05FC-30), which are readily available from online retailers. These cartridges typically feature dual-sided poly-fiber floss to remove fish waste and other debris, and activated carbon to eliminate organic pollutants, discolorations, odors, and heavy metals.

It is important to remove the filter cartridge when medicating fish, as the activated carbon in the cartridge can absorb most medications, rendering them ineffective. When cleaning the power filter itself, always unplug it from the electrical power. Detergents or soap should never be used for cleaning, as their residue can be harmful to fish.

The manual also provides troubleshooting tips for maintaining proper water levels. If the water level is too high, it can be lowered by adjusting the filter hanger bracket. If the water level is too low, the filter hanger bracket can be rotated 90 degrees to raise the filter in the next hole. This adjustment helps ensure the filter operates within the recommended water level range.

For any issues or questions, customer service can be contacted via email or phone. The manual also directs users to online video resources for further assistance with cleaning procedures and other help topics. The filter comes with a one-year limited warranty, covering defects in material or workmanship, provided the installation and use comply with the instructions.
