Overview

This document provides operating instructions for the KRACHT Gear Type Flow Meter VC 0.025 - 16. These instructions are an integral part of the product and must be kept in the immediate vicinity of the product and accessible to personnel at all times. Different versions of the product are produced, and this version is concerned with the device's type plate. For any questions about this operating manual, contact the manufacturer.

Function Description

The measuring unit of the KRACHT Gear Type Flow Meter is driven by the flow of fluid based on the principle of a gear motor. The gears run without contact in the measuring chamber. The bearing elements are low friction ball bearings or plain bearings. The gear movement is scanned contact-free by the sensors in the cover. There is a pressure-resistant A-magnetic separator between the sensor space and the measuring chamber. When the measuring element turns by one tooth pitch, each sensor generates a signal that corresponds to the so-called geometric tooth volume Vgz. A value stated in technical documents as the nominal volume is used to identify the device size. This signal is transmitted from the preamplifier to the evaluation electronics as a rectangular pulse or according to the IO-Link protocol (IO-Link mode - process data; SIO mode - rectangular pulse). The dual-channel scanning enables higher measured value resolution and detection of the direction of flow. In the gear-type flowmeter, the driving direction of the fluid flow is independent of the direction of rotation.

Important Technical Specifications

The device is a gear motor. It can be mounted in any position, and the flow direction is also arbitrary. The viscosity range is 5 to 2,500,000 mm²/s, with a special number 224 for 5,000 mm²/s. The operating pressure (special number 21) is 16 bar. The permissible pressure loss is 16 bar. The fluid temperature and ambient temperature are permissible within ranges specified in the "Permissible temperature range" section (special number 22). Materials are detailed in the "Material data" section (special number 23). The measuring accuracy is ± 0.3% for ball bearings from 20 mm²/s, ± 0.5% from 50 mm²/s, and ± 1% from 100 mm²/s. For hybrid ball bearings, it is ± 0.5% from 20 mm²/s and ± 1% from 100 mm²/s. For carbide ball bearings, it is ± 0.5% from 30 mm²/s and ± 1% from 100 mm²/s. For bronze ball bearings, it is ± 1% from 100 mm²/s. The permissible size of foreign particles in the medium is 20 µm for ball bearings (50 µm with special number 224), 30 µm for ball bearings with increased clearance, 20 µm for hybrid ball bearings, 30 µm for carbide ball bearings, and 50 µm for bronze ball bearings.

The nominal sizes range from 0.025 to 16. Connection types include G 1/8, G 1/4, G 3/8, G 1/2, G 3/4, G 1, SAE 1" - 6000 psi, and SAE 1 1/4" - 6000 psi. The maximum allowable pressure ranges from 240 bar (for nominal 5 with special number 224) to 480 bar (for nominal 0.2, 0.4, 12, 16). The sound pressure level is ≤ 60 dBA for nominal 0.025, 0.04, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4; ≤ 70 dBA for nominal 1, 3; ≤ 72 dBA for nominal 5 (special number 224); and ≤ 80 dBA for nominal 12, 16.

Permissible fluid temperatures vary by sealing material and bearing type. For FKM, the range is -40 to 150 °C. For EPDM, it's -40 to 220 °C. For FKM, FFKM, and FVMQ, it's -15 to 220 °C, -60 to 200 °C, and -40 to 220 °C respectively. Bearing types like ball bearing, carbide - plain bearings, bronze - plain bearings, and hybrid - ball bearing have a range of -40 to 80 °C. Ball bearing with increased clearance has a range of -60 to 220 °C. Housing materials like ductile cast iron, stainless steel, and aluminium (Al) have a range of -60 to 220 °C, -15 to 80 °C, and -15 to 80 °C respectively. Electronics without preamplifier have a range of -40 to 120 °C. IO-Link, high temperature, and high temperature PLUS electronics have ranges of -40 to 80 °C, -40 to 150 °C, and -40 to 220 °C respectively.

The weight of the device varies by nominal size and connection plate. For a nominal 0.025 with pipe connection, the weight is 3.0 kg, and with plate structure, it's 1.8 kg. For a nominal 16 with plate structure, the weight is 57.4 kg.

Usage Features

The product is designed for operation with fluids. Dry operation is not permitted. The product may only be operated when completely filled. The fluid must be compatible with the materials used in the product. Chemical expertise is required for that. Be careful with ethylene oxide or other catalytically or exothermically reacting or self-decomposing substances. Consult the manufacturer in cases of doubt. The product may only be used in normal industrial atmospheres. If there are any aggressive substances in the air, always consult the manufacturer. The product may only be operated in compliance with these operating instructions and the applicable documents. Deviating operating conditions require the express approval of the manufacturer. Use of the product for purposes other than those for which it is intended invalidates any warranty.

The personnel charged with the assembly, operation and maintenance of the product must have the necessary qualifications. This can be achieved through training or appropriate instruction. The personnel must be familiar with the contents of these operating instructions.

Maintenance Features

Regular checking and documentation of all operating data helps to detect faults at an early stage. This includes performing maintenance work according to specifications, replacing defective or worn components, requesting spare parts lists and assembly drawings from the manufacturer, documenting the type and scope of the maintenance work along with the operating data, comparing the operating data with the values of the initial commissioning, and disposing of packaging materials and used parts according to local regulations.

Maintenance tasks include checking the rate of flow, operating pressure, media temperature, device temperature, equipotential bonding, and condition of the operating fluid. Auditory checks for unusual noises, cleaning, visual inspection for leakage, visual check of the condition of the measuring element, visual check of the condition of housing parts, visual check of the condition of the bearings, replacing other seals, and cleaning to remove deposits in the measuring device are also part of the maintenance schedule. The frequency of these checks varies from daily to every 6000 operating hours or as required.

For cleaning, remove dust deposits and dirt with a damp, clean cloth. For visual inspection for leakage, care must be taken to ensure that there is no leakage from the connections. In the event of leaks in the connections, the glands must be tightened and, if necessary, the seals replaced. For visual checks of the measuring element, housing parts, and bearings, look for damage. Cleaning to remove deposits in the measuring device is also specified.

In the course of preventive maintenance, it is advisable to replace wearing parts before the wear limit is reached. With the appropriate know-how and sufficient equipment, the repair can also be carried out by the installer/operating company. If necessary, request spare parts lists and assembly drawings from the manufacturer. Please consult the manufacturer for this purpose. Warranty will be void if not executed properly.
