Do you have a question about the Kramer PT-571HDCP-MD and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Kramer PT-571HDCP and PT-572HDCP+ are a DVI line transmitter and receiver pair, respectively, designed for extending DVI signals over twisted pair cabling. The PT-571HDCP converts a DVI signal to a single twisted pair signal, while the PT-572HDCP+ converts the twisted pair signal back to a DVI signal. This system is ideal for various applications such as boardrooms, conference rooms, training rooms, presentation systems, signal distribution, home theater setups, and as a range extender for medical equipment.

Function Description:

The PT-571HDCP acts as a DVI Line Transmitter, receiving a DVI signal, encoding it, and transmitting it over a CAT 5 cable. It features a DVI input connector, an RJ-45 CAT 5 output connector, and a power status LED. The PT-572HDCP+ functions as a DVI Line Receiver, receiving the encoded signal from the PT-571HDCP over a CAT 5 cable, decoding it, and converting it back to a DVI output. It includes a DVI output connector, an RJ-45 CAT 5 input connector, and a power status LED.

The system utilizes Kramer's proprietary DGKat™ Signal Integration technology, which is designed for converting TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling) as well as control and communication signals to run efficiently over twisted pair cables. This ensures reliable transmission of high-quality DVI signals over extended distances.

A key feature of this system is "Power Connect™," which allows power to be fed over the CAT 5 cable from either the transmitter or the receiver. This means that only one unit in the system needs to be connected to a power source, simplifying installation. This feature is effective when the devices are within 90m (270ft) of each other using standard CAT 5 cable. For longer distances, heavy gauge cable is recommended for power transmission, although standard CAT 5 cable remains suitable for video/audio transmission.

  • EDID PassThru: Passes EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) signals between the source and display, ensuring optimal display settings.
  • 3D Pass-through: Supports the transmission of 3D content.
  • Transmission Range:
    • Up to 90m (295ft) at SXGA, or up to 30m (98ft) at UXGA on shielded BC-DGKat524 cable.
    • Up to 90m (295ft) at SXGA, or up to 70m (230ft) at UXGA on shielded BC-DGKat623 cable.
    • Up to 100m (330ft) at SXGA, or up to 80m (265ft) at UXGA on shielded BC-DGKat7a23 cable.
    • Note: Actual transmission range may vary depending on signal resolution, graphics card, and display used. Non-Kramer CAT 5, CAT 6, and CAT 7a cables may not achieve these maximum ranges.
  • Inputs (PT-571HDCP): 1 DVI (1.2Vpp on a DVI Molex 24pin female connector; DDC signal 5Vpp (TTL)).
  • Outputs (PT-571HDCP): 1 RJ-45 connector.
  • Inputs (PT-572HDCP+): 1 RJ-45 connector.
  • Outputs (PT-572HDCP+): 1 DVI (1.2Vpp on a DVI Molex 24-pin female connector; DDC signal 5Vpp (TTL)).
  • Operating Temperature: 0° to +40°C (32° to 104°F).
  • Storage Temperature: -40° to +70°C (-49° to 158°F).
  • Humidity: 10% to 90%, RHL non-condensing.
  • Power Source: 12V DC, 310mA (for transmitter and receiver together).
  • Dimensions: 6.2cm x 5.2cm x 2.4cm (2.4" x 2.1" x 1") W, D, H.

  • Optional Accessories: 19" RK-4PT rack adapter, Kramer DVI cables, and Kramer's specialized twisted pair cables (BC-DGKat524, BC-DGKat623, BC-DGKat7a23).

Usage Features:

  • Pico TOOLS™ Design: Both units are ultra-compact, allowing up to four units to be rack-mounted side-by-side in a 1U rack space using the optional RK-4PT rack adapter.
  • Easy Installation: The Quick Start Guide provides clear instructions for initial setup, including checking package contents, attaching rubber feet for tabletop use, or mounting in a rack.
  • Power Save Mode: The PT-571HDCP automatically enters power save mode, turning off power if no input is connected.
  • LED Indicators:
    • PT-571HDCP (ON LED): Lights when powered (directly or via PT-572HDCP+) and an input is connected.
    • PT-572HDCP+ (ON LED): Lights red when receiving power only, orange when output and power are attached, and yellow when both an active input and output are attached.
  • Cable Recommendations: It is crucial to use Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) cabling with the PT-571HDCP and PT-572HDCP+ to prevent ESD interference. Only straight pin-to-pin cables with RJ-45 connectors meeting the EIA/TIA 568B standard should be used. Kramer's specially developed BC-DGKat524, BC-DGKat623, and BC-DGKat7a23 cables are recommended for optimal performance, as they significantly outperform regular CAT 5/6/7a cables. The cable Ground shielding must be connected/soldered to the connector shield.

Maintenance Features:

  • Packaging Retention: Users are advised to save the original box and packaging materials for potential future service returns.
  • Optimal Performance Guidelines: To achieve the best performance, users should:
    • Use good quality connection cables (Kramer high-performance, high-resolution cables are recommended) to avoid signal deterioration and noise.
    • Avoid securing cables in tight bundles or rolling slack into tight coils.
    • Minimize interference from neighboring electrical appliances.
    • Position the units away from moisture, excessive sunlight, and dust.
  • Safety Instructions:
    • The units are for indoor use only and should only be connected to other indoor equipment.
    • There are no operator-serviceable parts inside the unit.
    • Only the Kramer Electronics input power wall adapter provided with the unit should be used.
    • Always disconnect power and unplug the unit from the wall before installation or servicing.
    • Always switch off power to each device before connecting the transmitter and receiver pair.
  • Recycling: Kramer Electronics participates in the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) to comply with the WEEE Directive 2002/96/EC, covering costs for treatment, recycling, and recovery of waste Kramer Electronics branded equipment.
