The system utilizes two types of cartridges: a Polypropylene Cartridge (FC-100PP or KF-1PP) and a Compressed Carbon Cartridge (FC-100CB or KF-1CB). The polypropylene cartridge typically serves as a pre-filter, removing larger sediment and particulate matter, while the compressed carbon cartridge is designed to reduce chlorine, taste, odor, and a wide range of organic and inorganic contaminants. This two-stage filtration process ensures comprehensive water purification for household use.

- Chlorine: >99% reduction (0.100 mg/L influent, 0.001 mg/L minimum product water concentration).
- Lead: >99% reduction (0.150 mg/L influent, 0.0005 mg/L minimum product water concentration).
- Cysts: >99.99% reduction (50,000 cysts/L influent, <1 cyst/L minimum product water concentration).
- VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds): Significant reduction for various VOCs like benzene, carbon tetrachloride, chlorobenzene, chloroform, 1,2-dichloroethane, ethylbenzene, toluene, and others. For example, benzene influent challenge is 0.078 mg/L with a minimum product water concentration of 0.001 mg/L.
- PFOA/PFOS: Significant reduction (0.0007 mg/L influent, 0.000001 mg/L minimum product water concentration).
- Pharmaceuticals: Reduction for estrone and ibuprofen.
- Other substances: Includes reduction of various pesticides, herbicides, and industrial chemicals.

Usage Features:

Easy Installation: The manual provides a step-by-step guide for replacing the filter cartridges. Users are instructed to remove the existing filter cartridge by rotating it 90° clockwise and pulling down, then installing new cartridges by aligning them correctly and securing the cap.
Display & Reset: The system features a display with indicators for filter icon, potable water, replace filter soon, and cleaning in progress. After installing new filters, users must flush the system for a minimum of 30 minutes. The filter icon on the display shows the filter status, with 5 bars indicating 100% capacity and 1 bar indicating less than 5% capacity. The system also has a reset button to reset the filter icon after replacement.
Battery Icon: The display includes a battery icon that indicates the battery level (Full Battery or Low Battery).
Cleaning in Progress Icon: This icon illuminates when the cleaning process has started, which occurs for three days or after the filters are replaced. The cleaning process takes ten minutes, and the icon blinks during this time.
Potable Water Icon: This icon blinks when the filter is ready for use, indicating that the water is safe for consumption.
Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes important safety warnings, such as ensuring the system is supplied only with cold water and not using it with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection.

Maintenance Features:

Filter Replacement Schedule: The filter cartridges should be replaced every 6 months or when the 700-gallon capacity has been exceeded, whichever comes first. A decrease in water flow is also an indication that replacement is needed.
Flushing After Replacement: After installing new filters, the system must be flushed for a minimum of 30 minutes. This is crucial for proper operation and to ensure the filter media is fully saturated and any loose carbon fines are flushed out.
Care & Cleaning:
1. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.
2. Do not clean with soaps, acid, polish, abrasives, or harsh cleaners, as these may affect product performance or void the warranty.
3. Do not use cloth with a coarse surface.
4. Unscrew the aerator and rinse clean when necessary.
Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues:
- Water leaks between the filter head and the filter cartridge: This is usually caused by a damaged, dirty, or out-of-place O-ring. The solution involves inspecting the O-rings, cleaning them, and ensuring they are properly seated.
- Water leaks at a tubing connection: This indicates that the tubing is not cut square or is damaged/crimped. The solution involves turning off the water supply, removing the tubing, cutting a sharp, square end, and reinserting it.
- Water leaks at a threaded connection: This is due to a damaged or dirty connection. The solution involves turning off the water supply, reconnecting the fitting, inspecting the seal for damage or debris, and securely reconnecting the fitting. It is important not to overtighten.
Warranty: Kraus offers a limited warranty for its plumbing fixtures. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal usage for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase by a trade professional or end-user.
