Overview

This document describes the KRUPS Art. Gaufrier Expert / Expert Waffle Maker, a household appliance designed for making waffles.

Function Description:

The KRUPS Expert Waffle Maker is an electrical appliance that bakes waffles using two non-stick plates. It features an adjustable thermostat, allowing users to control the cooking temperature for different waffle textures, from crisp to soft. The appliance has "on/off" (red) and "ready" (green) indicator lights to signal power status and preheating completion, respectively. Its design includes a handle for opening and closing, and a handle release button for folding the handle for storage. The waffle maker is equipped with removable waffle plates and a spill tray, both designed for easy cleaning.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual emphasizes checking that the electrical installation's power and voltage are compatible with the appliance's requirements, as indicated on the identification panel. It requires an earthed socket for operation. The appliance is designed for household use only, and using it for other than its intended purpose will void the warranty. For UK users, specific wiring instructions are provided, noting that all appliances must be earthed and detailing the colour codes for the wires (Green and Yellow for Earth, Blue for Neutral, Brown for Live). It specifies the use of an appropriately rated approved BS 1362 fuse (13 amp) for the factory-fitted plug.

Usage Features:

  1. Installation: The appliance should be placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from damp areas, slippery or hot surfaces, and sources of heat. The cord should not hang down over heat sources. Before first use, the handle should be placed in a horizontal position, and any packaging or stickers removed. The plates should be lightly oiled and wiped with a soft cloth. The spill tray should be placed underneath the appliance.
  2. Preheating: After closing the appliance and plugging it into an earthed socket, the red "on/off" light (a) will illuminate. The thermostat (c) should be set to 6, and the appliance allowed to preheat for approximately 5 minutes until the green "ready" light (b) comes on. A slight odour and smoke during the first use are normal.
  3. Cooking: The thermostat (c) can be set to the desired position based on the recipe or preferred waffle texture. The appliance is opened using the handle (e), and waffle batter is poured onto the bottom plate (f). The appliance is then closed, and the handle pressed down firmly. After 10 seconds, the appliance is turned over by rotating the handle (e) to the right (6-I). Waffles are cooked for the time indicated in the recipe. Once cooked, the appliance is turned over again by rotating the handle (e) to the left (6-II), opened, and the waffles removed. Users are advised not to touch the hot surfaces and to use a ladle for pouring batter. Metallic fasteners or sharp utensils should not be used on the plates.
  4. Adjustable Thermostat: The thermostat (c) allows for precise temperature control. For crisp waffles, the thermostat should be set to 6. For softer waffles, it should be set between 4 and 5 (for slower cooking). Other settings can be used to keep cooked waffles warm.
  5. Handle and Handle Release Button: The handle (e) is used for opening, closing, and turning the appliance during cooking. The handle release button (d) allows the handle to be folded down for compact storage (9).

Maintenance Features:

  1. Cleaning: After use, the thermostat should be set to the minimum setting, and the cord unplugged. The appliance must be allowed to cool down completely in the open position before cleaning. The plates (f), spill tray (i), and the body of the appliance can be cleaned with a sponge and washing-up liquid. The plates (f) and the spill tray (i) are dishwasher-safe.
  2. Plate Removal and Insertion: To remove the plates (7), open the appliance, hold the handle (e) with one hand, grasp the plate (f) at the notches (h), pull it sideways, and disengage it from the retaining pins (g). To insert the plates (8), angle the plate (f) into the retaining pins (g) and press on the opposite side to secure it.
  3. General Care: The appliance should not be immersed in water, nor should the cord. Metal scouring pads or scouring powders should not be used. If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a similarly qualified person to avoid hazards. No user-serviceable parts are inside the appliance; repairs should only be done by an authorized KRUPS Service Center.
  4. Storage: To save space, the handle release button (d) can be pressed to fold the handle down (9).

Safety Precautions:

The manual lists several important safeguards, including reading all instructions, not touching hot surfaces, avoiding immersion of the cord or appliance in liquids, supervising children, unplugging when not in use or before cleaning, not operating with a damaged cord or plug, avoiding accessory attachments not recommended by KRUPS, not using outdoors, keeping the cord away from hot surfaces or edges, not placing near heat sources, exercising caution with hot oil/liquids, unplugging from the wall outlet for disconnection, and using only for intended household purposes. It also warns against covering the appliance with flammable materials during operation to prevent fire.
