Overview

This document describes the Krups Art. Gaufrier Expert / Expert Waffle Maker, a household appliance designed for making waffles. The manual provides detailed instructions for installation, operation, cooking, and maintenance, ensuring safe and effective use.

Function Description

The Krups Expert Waffle Maker is an electrical appliance primarily used for baking waffles. It features two removable non-stick waffle plates that cook batter evenly, producing a variety of waffle types, from traditional to specialty recipes like crunchy waffles with hot chocolate and ice cream, Belgian waffles, and even savory tuna and salmon waffles. The appliance is designed for household use and is equipped with an adjustable thermostat, allowing users to control the cooking temperature to achieve desired waffle textures, from crisp to soft.

The waffle maker operates by preheating its plates to a selected temperature, indicated by a "ready" light. Once preheated, batter is poured onto the bottom plate, and the appliance is closed. A unique feature of this model is its ability to be turned over during cooking, ensuring even heat distribution and consistent browning on both sides of the waffle. After cooking, the waffles can be easily removed, and the appliance can be prepared for subsequent batches or cleaning.

Usage Features

The Krups Expert Waffle Maker is designed with several features to enhance user experience and convenience:

  • Adjustable Thermostat (c): This allows users to select the desired cooking temperature. For crisp waffles, the thermostat can be set to 6, while for softer waffles, a setting between 4 and 5 is recommended for slower cooking. Other settings can be used to keep cooked waffles warm.
  • "On/off" Light (a) and "Ready" Light (b): The red "on/off" light indicates when the appliance is plugged in and powered on. The green "ready" light illuminates when the appliance has reached its preheating temperature, signaling that it is ready for batter.
  • Handle (e) and Handle Release Button (d): The handle is used to open and close the appliance, as well as to turn it over during cooking. The handle release button allows the handle to be folded down for compact storage.
  • Removable Waffle Plates (f): The non-stick waffle plates can be easily removed for cleaning. They feature notches (h) for easier handling during removal and insertion. Plate retaining pins (g) secure the plates in place during operation.
  • Spill Tray (i): A spill tray is placed underneath the appliance to catch any excess batter or drips, keeping the countertop clean.
  • Overturning Mechanism: After pouring batter and closing the appliance, the handle can be turned to the right (6-I) to flip the waffle maker, ensuring even cooking on both sides. Once cooked, it can be turned back to the left (6-II) for easy removal of waffles.
  • Polarized Plug: The appliance is equipped with a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) to reduce the risk of electric shock. It is designed to fit into a polarized outlet in only one way.

Before first use, the handle should be placed in a horizontal position, and the appliance should be opened. Any packaging, stickers, and accessories must be removed. A small amount of oil should be poured onto the plates and wiped with a soft cloth. The spill tray should be placed underneath the appliance. The appliance should be plugged into an earthed socket, and the thermostat set to 6 for preheating. A slight odor and smoke may be emitted during the first use, which is normal.

During cooking, users are advised not to touch the hot surfaces of the appliance and to use the handle for operation. A ladle is recommended for pouring waffle batter onto the bottom plate. The cooking time varies depending on the recipe and desired crispness.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the Krups Expert Waffle Maker. The manual outlines several key maintenance procedures:

  • Cleaning: After each use, the thermostat should be set to the minimum setting, and the appliance unplugged. It must be allowed to cool down completely in the open position before cleaning. The plates (f), the spill tray (i), and the body of the appliance can be cleaned with a sponge and washing-up liquid. The plates and spill tray are dishwasher-safe, offering convenient cleaning.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Users are specifically instructed not to use a metal scouring pad or scouring powder, as these can damage the non-stick coating of the plates.
  • No Immersion: The appliance or its cord should never be immersed in water to prevent electrical shock and damage.
  • Plate Removal and Insertion: For thorough cleaning, the waffle plates can be removed. To remove, open the appliance, hold the handle with one hand, and grasp the plate at the notches (h) with the other hand. Pull it sideways and disengage it from the retaining pins (g). To insert, angle the plate into the retaining pins and press on the opposite side to secure it.
  • Storage: To save space, the handle can be folded down by pressing the handle release button (d).
  • Servicing: Any servicing other than cleaning and user maintenance should be performed by the nearest authorized KRUPS Service Center. Users are warned not to dismantle the appliance themselves, as there are no user-serviceable parts inside, and doing so could reduce the risk of fire or electric shock.
  • Cord Maintenance: If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a similarly qualified person to avoid hazards. For UK users, specific wiring instructions are provided, emphasizing that all appliances must be earthed and detailing how to connect the wires (Green/Yellow to Earth, Blue to Neutral, Brown to Live) to a plug with an appropriate fuse.

By following these guidelines, users can ensure the safe, efficient, and long-lasting performance of their Krups Expert Waffle Maker.
