  If your LaCie Storage drive is not recognized by your computer, first check that it has been formatted correctly. Go to My Computer to see if the LaCie drive icon and letter are there. If not, ensure the power supply is correctly connected, the drive is on, and the power outlet works. Review the USB cable connection, and check both ends of the USB cable. Disconnect, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect. If it still doesn't work, restart your computer. If problems persist, make sure that you have checked the minimum system requirements.

  If you encounter error messages under Mac OS 10.x with your LaCie Storage, and the drive was originally formatted as a removable disk, the removable setting will need to be re-checked each time that the drive is taken to a new system. To do this, go the Device Manager and click on the Drives Settings tab. Also, LaCie drives conserve power by spinning down when you set your computer to sleep mode, so the drive may not have enough time to spin-up from its sleep mode when the computer is 'woken' from sleep. When copying files or folders from Mac OS 10.x to a FAT 32 volume, certain characters cannot be copied. Simply ignore the message. The drive will remount to the desktop.

  If your LaCie Storage drive is working slowly, try disconnecting any other USB or FireWire devices to see if the drive's performance improves. If the drive is connected via FireWire to a computer running Windows Vista, right-click on your LaCie hard drive in My Computer, select Properties, then the Policies tab, and choose Optimize for performance. After that, disconnect your drive from your computer.

Why is my LaCie Storage drive not running faster with USB 2.0?

  If your LaCie Storage drive isn't running faster when connected via Hi-Speed USB 2.0, it might be connected to a USB 1.1 port or hub, which is normal because a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 device can only operate at Hi-Speed USB 2.0 performance levels when connected to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port or hub. Also, check that the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 drivers for your host bus adapter and device have been installed correctly; if unsure, reinstall them. Ensure that you are using a certified cable, like the one shipped with your LaCie drive. Also, make sure that you have checked the minimum system requirements.

  To uninstall the USB 2.0 drivers for your LaCie Storage from your PC, go to Start menu > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Find 'TPP Storage Driver 5.0' in the list, click Add/Remove, and follow the instructions. Restart your computer when prompted.
