Overview

This document describes the Half Lantern PIR Outdoor Wall Light, models 172PG and 430PG, which is a motion-sensing outdoor wall light designed for illumination and security.

Function Description:

The Half Lantern PIR Outdoor Wall Light is a wall-mounted luminaire equipped with a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor. This sensor detects motion within its detection zone, automatically switching on the light. The unit is designed for outdoor use, providing illumination for pathways, entrances, or other areas around a property. The PIR sensor's sensitivity and the duration the light stays on after detection are adjustable, allowing users to customize its operation to their specific needs. The light also features an adjustable LUX setting, which determines the ambient light level at which the lamp will activate, preventing it from turning on during daylight hours.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage: 240V 50Hz
  • Lamp Type: Max. 1 x 15W LED E27 GLS (General Lighting Service) bulb. It is crucial not to exceed the stated wattage or use a different bulb shape.
  • PIR Detection Angle: 105 degrees
  • Maximum PIR Detection Distance: 8 meters
  • PIR Mounting Height: The unit must be installed in a vertical position, 1-2 meters above the ground for optimal PIR sensor performance.
  • Time Adjustment (Light ON Duration): Adjustable from 8 seconds to 9 minutes.
  • LUX Adjustment (Ambient Light Level): Adjustable from approximately 2 lux (dark) to 2000 lux (daylight).
  • IP Rating: IP44, indicating protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and splashes of water from any direction. This makes it suitable for outdoor environments.
  • Electrical Classification: Double Insulated, meaning it does not require an Earth connection.
  • Mains Supply Cable: Must have a minimum cross-sectional area of 1.0mm².

Usage Features:

  • PIR Sensor Adjustment: The unit includes two dials for adjusting the PIR sensor:
    • TIME Dial (1): Controls the length of time the light remains on after motion detection. It can be set from 8 seconds to 9 minutes.
    • LUX Screw (2): Adjusts the ambient light level at which the lamp will switch on. Turning it towards the '+' symbol (2000 lux) will make the light activate in brighter conditions, while turning it towards the '-' symbol (2 lux) will make it activate only in darker conditions.
  • Bulb Replacement: Uses a standard E27 GLS bulb, with a maximum wattage of 15W LED. Bulbs are secured by turning clockwise into the lampholder and removed by turning anti-clockwise.
  • Installation: The unit is designed for wall mounting. It requires careful planning of cable layout to avoid hazards and ensure cables are protected. It is recommended to use suitable conduit or plastic trunking for cables in walls. The product should be installed by a competent and qualified electrician in accordance with IEE Wiring regulations and current Building Regulations.
  • Wiring: The product features a connection block for wiring. The neutral (N) wire connects to the blue terminal, and the switched live (L) wire connects to the brown terminal. As it is double insulated, no earth connection is required.
  • Safety Precautions: Always switch off the mains supply before installing, maintaining, or changing bulbs. Allow bulbs to cool before handling. Do not exceed the specified wattage or use incorrect bulb types. The entire unit can become hot during operation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The unit should be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. For glass parts, a damp cloth can be used. Solvents or abrasive cleaners should not be used as they can damage the finish.
  • Glass Shade Replacement: If the glass shade becomes cracked or damaged, it must be replaced. The product should not be used without the glass shade attached.
  • Bulb Disposal: Used bulbs should be disposed of carefully and responsibly.
  • Recycling: Waste electrical products should not be disposed of with household waste. Users are advised to recycle where facilities exist and to check with their local authority or retailer for recycling advice. The product packaging is also recyclable.
  • Pre-installation Check: Before installation, ensure the wall is capable of holding the product's weight and avoid damaging any concealed wiring or pipes.
