Bring meaning to numbers!
Early in life, babies can benefit from
exposure to numbers and counting—it helps
them learn the correct name of each number,
and the sequence of counting.
Try saying the number names in order to your
baby, as you point out each number.
Later, when your baby becomes familiar with
each number, use Baby Counting Pal to introduce
groups that represent numbers. Count the number
of creatures on each tactile activity, and ask
your baby questions. For example, “How many
butterflies do you see?” Reinforce the learning by
singing songs and taking advantage of everyday
opportunities to count together!
Build a world of colors/colours!
Children discover colors/colours at a very early age, and use
colors/colours to help them distinguish between objects.
Encourage your child to learn about and explore colors/
colours by playing a fun call-and-response game! Offer your
child a variety of brightly colored/coloured objects, and point to
each object as you say its color/colour. Then say a color/colour
and wait to see if your child points to the correct object before
you do! Your child will soon begin noticing and recognizing
different colors/colours, and will most likely start developing a
preference for a “favorite/favourite” color/colour.
Learning can truly be a multisensory experience!
Babies explore and learn through sight, sound and touch.
Try squeaking the bird activity or tapping the butterfly rattle
in different rhythms, and have your baby try to imitate you.
Supplying your baby with handheld activities that he can easily
grasp and use to make simple sounds will help him develop an
appreciation for different rhythms, sounds and textures.
Trace over each of the numbers with your baby’s finger and
let her get a feel for each of the numbers. The more she learns
through all her senses, the more fulfilling and rewarding her
learning experience will be.
It’s not just music!
Children love music, and it’s important to expose them to
new sounds and musical styles.
Let your child explore and hear each of the 5 classical
melodies by tapping each number button. Each melody will
introduce your baby to a variety of instruments and tempos.
Sing along with the activities! Allowing your child to hear
your voice and see your mouth movements will help reinforce
language skill development.
