Overview

This document describes the Lennox MWCB and MWHB Series Units, which are single-zone mini-split systems available in 115V and 208/230V configurations. These units are designed for residential use and utilize HFC-410A refrigerant.

Function Description:

The Lennox mini-split system provides cooling, heating (for heat pump models), and dehumidification functions. It is controlled primarily by a wireless remote controller, with an option for manual operation in case of remote control failure. The system aims for optimal performance within specific temperature ranges, and includes several features to enhance user comfort and energy efficiency.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Refrigerant: HFC-410A
  • Optimal Performance Ranges:
    • Cool Mode:
      • Room: 60°F - 90°F (16°C - 32°C)
      • Outdoor: 5°F - 122°F (-15°C to 50°C)
    • Heat Mode (Heat Pump Units Only):
      • Room: 32°F - 86°F (0°C - 32°C)
      • Outdoor: 5°F - 86°F (-15°C to 30°C)
    • Dry Mode:
      • Room: 50°F - 90°F (10°C - 32°C)
      • Outdoor: 32°F - 122°F (0°C - 50°C)
  • Wireless Remote Control Specifications:
    • Rated Voltage: 3.0 VDC (2 AAA batteries)
    • Min Voltage for Sending Signal to CPU: 2.4 VDC
    • Effective Transmitting Distance: 26 feet (8 meters)
    • Operation Conditions: 23°F to 140°F (-5 to 60°C)
  • Fan Speeds: AUTO, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100% (Silence, Low, Med, High)
  • Timer Settings: 30-minute increments up to 10 hours, then 60-minute increments up to 24 hours.
  • Temperature Display Range: 60-86°F (16-30°C)

Usage Features:

  • Auto Restart: If power is lost, the unit automatically restarts with prior settings.
  • Louver Angle Memory: The louver automatically resumes its last set angle upon unit startup.
  • Louver Adjustment: Louvers can be set to automatically swing or remain stationary at five different fixed airflow angles using the remote controller. Manual adjustment is not recommended.
  • Mode Selection: Users can select AUTO, COOL, DRY, HEAT (heat pump models only), and FAN modes.
  • Temperature Control: Indoor temperature can be increased or decreased in one-degree increments (60°F minimum, 86°F maximum). Temperature display can be toggled between °C and °F.
  • ECO Operation: Available in cooling mode, this feature sets the unit to 75°F and fan to Auto if the setpoint is lower or over 75°F, respectively, to save energy.
  • GEAR Operation: Reduces electrical consumption to 75% or 50%.
  • TIMER ON/OFF Functions: Allows scheduling the unit to turn on or off at a desired time, promoting energy efficiency.
  • TURBO Mode: Enables the unit to reach the preset temperature in the shortest time during cooling or heating.
  • Breeze Away Function: Prevents direct airflow from blowing on occupants. Available in Cool, Fan, and Dry modes.
  • Sleep Mode: Automatically increases cooling or decreases heating (2°F increments per hour for the first 2 hours) and maintains a steady temperature for 6 hours, then returns to previous operating mode after 8 hours. Not available with Active Clean, Silence, Breeze Away, Refrigerant Leakage Detection, or ECO features.
  • Follow Me Function: Allows the remote controller to sense the room temperature at its location, providing more accurate temperature control.
  • Silence Function: Reduces noise output.
  • Lock Function: Locks all remote controller buttons to prevent accidental changes.
  • Manual Operation: In case of remote control failure, the unit can be operated manually via the AUTO/COOL button on the indoor unit. This allows for Forced AUTO, Forced Cooling, and Forced Defrosting modes. Forced AUTO and Cooling are preset to 75°F (24°C) and cannot be adjusted.

Maintenance Features:

  • Refrigerant Leakage Detection: The indoor unit automatically displays "EC" if it detects refrigerant leakage, indicating a need for service.
  • Return Air Filters: Filters should be checked monthly (or more frequently in dusty environments) and cleaned every two weeks to ensure proper airflow and efficiency.
    • Cleaning Procedure:
      1. Lift the front panel of the indoor unit.
      2. Grip the tab on the filter, lift it, and pull it out.
      3. Wash with warm soapy water and mild detergent.
      4. Rinse with fresh water and shake off excess.
      5. Dry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
      6. Slide filters back into the unit.
      7. Close the front panel.
  • Active Clean Function: Removes dust, mold, and grease from the indoor coil by automatically freezing and then rapidly thawing it. The indoor unit displays "CL" during this 20-45 minute process. Available in Cool or Dry modes.

Safety and Important Considerations:

  • Installation and service must be performed by a licensed professional HVAC installer or service agency.
  • Do not spray water on the indoor unit.
  • Do not touch the unit or controller with wet hands.
  • Do not insert hands, tools, or other items into air intake or outlet.
  • Do not remove the outdoor unit fan guard.
  • Ensure the outdoor unit stand is stable if installed on one.
  • Do not install sprinklers or soaker hoses near the outdoor unit to prevent corrosion.
  • Do not block air inlets or outlets for efficient operation.
  • Do not stand on the outdoor unit or store items on it.
  • Allow at least one minute between mode changes for system stabilization.
  • The remote controller requires a clear line of sight to the indoor unit and should not be submerged, exposed to direct sunlight, dropped, or stepped on.
  • Contact with sharp sheet metal edges can cause injury; wear gloves and protective clothing during handling.
  • FCC Compliance: The device complies with Part 15 of FCC Rules. It must accept any interference and not cause harmful interference. If interference occurs, reorient the antenna, increase separation, or connect to a different circuit. Human proximity to the antenna should be no less than 20cm.
