Safety inspection guide
Thepurposeofthisinspectionguideistoassistyouinidentifyingpotential
unsafeconditions.Aseach machine was designedandbuilt,requiredsafety
itemswereinstalledtoprotectusersandservicepersonnel from injury.This
guideaddressesonlythoseitems.Youshoulduse good judgment to identify
potentialsafetyhazardsaccordingtotheattachmentofnon-Lenovofeaturesor
optionsnotcoveredbythisinspectionguide.
Ifanyunsafeconditionsare present,youmustdeterminehowseriousthe
apparenthazardcouldbeandwhetheryoucancontinuewithoutrstcorrecting
theproblem.
Considertheseconditionsandthesafetyhazardstheypresent:
• Electricalhazards,especiallyprimarypower(primaryvoltageontheframe
cancauseseriousorfatalelectricalshock)
• Explosivehazards,suchasadamagedCRTfaceorabulgingcapacitor
• Mechanicalhazards,suchaslooseormissinghardware
Todeterminewhetherthereare anypotentialunsafeconditions,usethe
followingchecklistatthebeginningofeveryservicetask.Beginthecheckswith
thepowero,andthepowercorddisconnected.
Checklist:
1. Checkexteriorcoversfordamage(loose,broken,orsharpedges).
2. Turnothecomputer.Disconnectthepowercord.
3. Checkthepowercordfor:
a. Athird-wiregroundconnectoringoodcondition.Useametertomeasure
third-wiregroundcontinuityfor0.1ohmorless between the external
groundpinandtheframeground.
b. Thepowercordshouldbethetypespeciedinthepartslist.
c. Insulationmustnotbefrayedorworn.
4. Checkforcrackedorbulgingbatteries.
5. Removethecover.
6. Checkforanyobviousnon-Lenovoalterations.Usegoodjudgmentastothe
safetyofanynon-Lenovoalterations.
7. Checkinsidetheunitfor any obvious unsafeconditions,suchasmetal
filings,contamination,waterorotherliquids,orsigns of fire or smoke
damage.
8. Checkforworn,frayed,orpinchedcables.
9. Checkthatthepower-supplycoverfasteners(screwsorrivets)havenot
beenremovedortamperedwith.
