This document is an owner's manual for an LG washing machine, specifically models F1480FDS2(1-9), F1280FDS2(1-9), and F1080FDS2(1-9). The manual provides comprehensive information on the product's features, installation, usage, maintenance, troubleshooting, and warranty.
Function Description:
The LG washing machine is designed to efficiently clean laundry using advanced technologies. Key features include an Inverter Direct Drive system, which utilizes an advanced Brushless DC motor directly driving the drum without a belt and pulley, enhancing durability and reducing noise. The 6 Motion technology allows the washer to perform various drum actions or a combination of different actions depending on the wash program selected, combining controlled spin speed and drum ability to rotate both left and right for optimal washing performance. Protection against creases is achieved through alternating rotation of the drum, minimizing creasing. A built-in heater automatically heats the water to the best temperature for selected cycles. The Intelligent Wash system detects the size of the load and water temperature, then determines the optimum water level and washing time to minimize energy and water consumption. For safety, a Child Lock feature prevents children from pressing any button to change settings during operation. A Low noise speed control system senses the amount of load and balance, distributing load to minimize spinning noise. The Auto Restart feature allows the program to restart itself in case of power failure from the stage where it stopped.

Usage Features:
The washing machine offers various wash programs tailored for different fabric types and soil levels. These include Cotton, Cotton Eco, Easy Care, Mix, Allergy Care, Silent Wash, Refresh, Duvet, Sports Wear, Dark Wash, Delicate, Wool, Quick 30, and Intensive 60. Each program has specific temperature settings and maximum load recommendations. For instance, the Cotton program is suitable for heavily soiled cottons, linens, and work clothes, with a proper temperature of 40°C (Cold to 95°C) and a maximum load of 9 kg. The Silent Wash program is designed for less noise and vibration, ideal for overnight use.
The control panel features a Power button, Program dial, Start/Pause button, Child Lock button, Option button, Beep On/Off button, Rinse button, Temp. button, and Tub Clean button. An LED display shows settings and status messages. Additional program options include Time Delay, Favorite, Steam Wash, and Pre Wash. Options for Rinse+Spin, Spin Only, Rinse, Temp., and Refresh Cycle are also available. The Child Lock function can be activated to prevent accidental changes during operation. The Beep On/Off function allows users to mute or unmute the machine's sound. The Tub Clean cycle is a special program to clean the inside of the washing machine, recommended regularly to maintain hygiene.
Adding detergent is straightforward, with separate compartments for main wash detergent, pre-wash detergent, and fabric softener. The manual provides warnings against using excessive detergent to prevent overflow and advises on the appropriate amount. It also details how to add water softener and using detergent tablets.
Maintenance Features:
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the washing machine.
- Water Inlet Filter: The water inlet filter should be cleaned periodically to prevent clogging. An "IE" error message indicates a clogged filter. Cleaning involves turning off the water tap, unscrewing the inlet hose, cleaning the filter with a hard bristle brush, and then re-tightening the hose.
- Drain Pump Filter: The drain pump filter collects threads and small objects from the laundry. It should be cleaned regularly to ensure smooth running. This involves opening the lower cover cap, pulling out the hose, unplugging the drain plug to drain water, removing any extraneous matter, cleaning the filter, and then reinserting the drain plug and closing the cover.
- Dispenser Drawer: The dispenser drawer should be cleaned regularly to prevent detergent and fabric softener residue buildup. This involves pulling out the drawer, cleaning it under flowing water, and scrubbing inside the recess with an old toothbrush before reinserting.
- Washing Drum: The washing drum is made of Stainless steel, but specks of rust can appear due to small metal articles (paper clips, safety pins) left in the drum. These can be removed using descaling agents or bleach. Regular cleaning of the drum and rubber seals is recommended to prevent mold and unpleasant odors.
- Cleaning the Washer: The exterior of the washer should be cleaned with warm water and a neutral non-abrasive household detergent. Harsh chemicals should be avoided. The interior, including the door opening, flexible gasket, and door glass, should be wiped dry after each wash to prevent mold.
- Cold Conditions: In freezing temperatures, the washer should be protected by turning off the water supply tap, disconnecting hoses, draining water from hoses, and adding 1 gallon (3.8L) of nontoxic recreational vehicle (RV) antifreeze into an empty wash drum. After the spin cycle, the power cord should be unplugged and the door closed. To remove antifreeze, run an empty wash cycle with detergent.
Troubleshooting Guide:
The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues.
- Rattling and clanking noise: Possible causes include foreign objects such as coins or safety pins in the drum or pump. The solution is to stop the washer and check the drum and drain filter.
- Thumping sound: Heavy wash loads or an unbalanced load can cause thumping. The solution is to add 1 or 2 similar items to help balance the load or rearrange the load.
- Vibrating noise: Transit bolts not removed or uneven feet can cause vibration. The solution is to refer to the installation guide for removing transit bolts and leveling the machine.
- Water leaks: Loose fill hoses or drain hose, or clogged drain pipe. Solutions include checking and tightening hose connections or unclogging the drain pipe.
- Oversudsing: Too much detergent or unsuitable detergent. The solution is to use less detergent or switch to a suitable type.
- Water does not enter washer or it enters slowly: Water supply not adequate, water supply tap not completely open, or kinked/clogged inlet hose/filter. Solutions include checking the tap, straightening the hose, or cleaning the filter.
- Water in the washer does not drain or drains slowly: Kinked/clogged drain hose or drain filter. Solutions include cleaning and straightening the drain hose/filter.
- Washer does not start: Electrical power cord not plugged in or loose, house fuse blown, circuit breaker tripped, or power outage. Solutions include plugging in the cord, resetting the circuit breaker, or checking the water supply tap.
- Washer will not spin: Door not firmly shut. Solution is to close the door and press the Start/Pause button.
- Door does not open: Machine has started, the door cannot be opened for safety reasons. Check if the "Door Lock" icon is illuminated.
- Wash cycle time delayed: The washing time may vary by the amount of laundry, water pressure, water temperature, and other usage conditions.
- Fabric softener overflow: Too much softener. Solution is to follow guidelines for appropriate amount.
- Softeners dispensed too early: Dispenser drawer slowly. Solution is to close the dispenser drawer during the wash cycle.
