Overview

This document is an owner's manual for an LG Air Conditioner, providing essential information for its safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The LG Air Conditioner is designed to provide cooling and heating (depending on the model) for indoor spaces. It features an Auto Restart Function, which automatically resumes operation to the previous settings after a power failure. The manual covers two main types of indoor units: Ceiling Cassette - 4Way and Ceiling Cassette - Round.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual lists several models with their corresponding maximum current draw. All models operate on either 50 Hz 220-240 V~ (Argentina) or 60 Hz 220 V~ (Brazil, Mexico).

The appliance is designed to use flammable refrigerants (R32) and requires specific handling and storage conditions. It should be stored in a well-ventilated area, and ducts connected to it must not contain an ignition source. The room size for operation should correspond to the specified room area.

Usage Features

The manual emphasizes several key aspects for safe and effective use:

  • Installation: Requires a qualified installation specialist and a dedicated circuit. After installation or repair, gas (refrigerant) leakage must be checked. The drain hose must be properly installed to prevent water leakage. The unit should be installed level to avoid vibration and water leakage. Two or more people are recommended for lifting and transporting the product to prevent personal injury. Installation by non-licensed professionals voids the warranty. The unit should not be installed where noise or hot air from the outdoor unit could disturb neighbors.
  • Operation:
    • Avoid prolonged direct exposure to cool air to prevent health issues.
    • Ensure proper ventilation when using the air conditioner with stoves or other heating devices to prevent oxygen deficiency.
    • Do not use the air conditioner for non-specified purposes (e.g., preserving food, art, pets, plants, or precision devices) as this may cause damage or loss of property.
    • Do not block the air inlet or outlet, as this can cause product failure.
    • Do not touch the product with wet hands to avoid electric shock.
    • Do not place heaters or other appliances near the power cable to prevent fire and electric shock.
    • Prevent water from running into electrical parts to avoid fire, product failure, or electric shock.
    • Do not store or use flammable gas or combustibles near the product to prevent fire or product failure.
    • Avoid using the product in a tightly closed space for extended periods, as this could lead to oxygen deficiency.
    • In case of flammable gas leaks, turn off the gas, open a window for ventilation, and do not operate the air conditioner or use telephones/switches to avoid explosion or fire.
    • If strange sounds, smells, or smoke occur, turn off the breaker or disconnect the power supply cable immediately to prevent electric shock or fire.
    • During storms or hurricanes, stop operation, close windows, and if possible, remove the product from the window.
    • Do not open the inlet grill during operation (especially if equipped with an electrostatic filter) to avoid physical injury, electric shock, or product failure.
    • If the product is soaked, contact an Authorized Service Center.
    • Ventilate the room occasionally when operating the air conditioner with a stove.
    • Do not step on or place objects on outdoor units to prevent personal injury and product failure.
    • Do not drink the water drained from the product as it is unsanitary.
    • Use a firm stool or ladder for cleaning and maintenance to prevent personal injury.
    • Do not let the air conditioner run for a long time with high humidity and an open door or window, as moisture may condense and damage furniture.
    • Do not turn on the breaker or power when the front panel, cabinet, top cover, or control box cover are removed or opened to prevent fire, electric shock, explosion, or death.
    • Do not touch refrigerant or water pipes, or any internal parts, during or immediately after operation to avoid burns or frostbite.
  • Operation Tips:
    • Avoid overcooling the room to save electricity and protect health.
    • Keep blinds or curtains closed to prevent direct sunlight from entering the room during operation.
    • Maintain a uniform room temperature by adjusting vertical and horizontal airflow.
    • Keep doors and windows shut tight to retain cool air.
    • Clean the air filter regularly (at least every two weeks) to maintain airflow and cooling/dehumidifying efficiency.
    • Ventilate the room occasionally, especially when windows are kept closed.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the air conditioner's performance and longevity.

  • General Cleaning:
    • Before any maintenance, turn off the main power to the system.
    • Clean the grille, case, and remote control by wiping with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use bleach or abrasives.
    • Supply power must be disconnected before cleaning the indoor unit.
  • Air Filters (Ceiling Cassette - 4Way and Round):
    • Check and clean air filters every 2 weeks or more often if necessary.
    • Removal: Take hold of the tab and pull slightly forward to remove the filter.
    • Cleaning: Clean dirt with a vacuum cleaner or by washing with water. If very dirty, use a neutral detergent in lukewarm water. Do not use hot water (above 40 °C) as it may deform the filter.
    • Drying: Dry thoroughly in the shade. Do not expose to direct sunlight or heat from a fire.
    • Installation: Install the air filter securely.
    • Caution: Do not touch metal parts of the indoor unit when removing the air filter to avoid injury.
    • Avoid using water hotter than 40 °C, volatile substances (benzene, thinner, scouring cleaner) as they can cause deformation, discoloration, or damage to plastic parts.
  • Deodorization Filter/PM1.0 Filter (Optional - Ceiling Cassette - 4Way):
    • Removal: Open the front grille by pressing the fixing hooks. Remove the PM1.0 filter by pressing its fixing hook, then pull the photocatalyst Deodorization filter upward.
    • Cleaning:
      • Deodorization Filter: Dry for 3 hours in sunlight or under fluorescent light. Clean every six months (assuming 8 hours of daily use). Do not wash with water as it can damage or deform the filter.
      • PM1.0 Filter: Clean without disassembling. Submerge in water, shaking several times. If very dirty, soak for 30 minutes in lukewarm water with mild detergent, then rinse thoroughly. Do not use acidic detergents. Clean every six months.
    • Drying: Dry thoroughly in the shade for about a day. If moisture remains, the buzzer will sound 7 times. Do not use hot air heaters (hair dryer, heater) as they can damage or deform the filter.
    • Installation: Assemble in reverse order and close the front grille.
    • Caution: Ensure the filter case is correctly assembled. Be careful not to drop the front grille. Do not wash the dust filter with hot water over 40 °C or volatile liquids. Wear gloves during installation. The inside of the filter is sharp, so do not rub or touch it directly.
  • PM1.0 Sensor Cleaning (Optional):
    • Removal: Remove the PM1.0 Sensor corner cover on the front panel. Open the PM1.0 sensor case on the side and remove the rubber cap.
    • Cleaning: Use a cotton swab to wipe dirt off the lens, then use a dry swab to remove moisture.
    • Installation: Tighten the rubber cap, close the PM1.0 sensor case, and assemble the PM1.0 Sensor corner cover to its original position.
    • Note: Recommended to clean every six months. PM1.0 Sensor is only included with Air purification panel.
    • Warning: Turn off the main power switch for safety. Be careful not to drop the product or the PM1.0 Sensor corner cover. Be careful of falling accidents when cleaning the PM1.0 sensor.
  • Long-Term Storage (When not in use):
    • Operate the air conditioner in Fan operation mode for 2 to 3 hours to dry out internal mechanisms.
    • Turn off the breaker.
    • Caution: Turning off the breaker prevents dirt accumulation and potential fire hazards.
  • Restarting After Long-Term Storage:
    • Clean the air filter and install it.
    • Check that the air inlet and outlet of both indoor and outdoor units are not blocked.
    • Verify that the ground wire is correctly connected to the indoor unit side.
  • Service: For repairs and maintenance beyond routine cleaning, contact an authorized service dealer. Servicing involving flammable refrigerants must be performed by skilled personnel under supervision.
  • User Responsibility: The user must carry out routine checks and cleaning to avoid defective performance. In special situations, only service personnel can carry out repair work.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide to help users identify and resolve common issues before calling for service, such as the air conditioner not operating, peculiar odors, condensation, noise, or ineffective cooling/heating. It also notes that the outdoor side of the appliance is water resistant, while the indoor side is not and should not be exposed to excess water. Some functions may not be supported depending on the model.
