Overview

The ZL-7817A is a temperature controller designed for precise temperature management, offering both PID and on/off control methods. It features an internal control resolution of 0.01°C, ensuring high accuracy. The device includes an integrated Solid State Relay (SSR) output with a 5A rated power driving ability for heating control (R1), and an auxiliary output (R2) with a 7A resistive rating for timer-based operations or high-temperature protection.

Function Description:

The ZL-7817A primarily functions as a temperature controller. It can operate in two control modes:

  • PID Control (U74 = 0): This mode provides proportional, integral, and derivative control for precise temperature regulation, minimizing overshoot and maintaining a stable set-point. The output for the heater is R1.
  • Hysteresis Control (U74 = 1): In this mode, R1 de-energizes when the measured temperature is greater than or equal to the set-point (SP) and energizes when the measured temperature is less than or equal to SP minus the hysteresis value (U14). This is a simpler on/off control method suitable for applications where precise PID control is not critical.

The auxiliary output (R2) can be configured for:

  • Timer Output: R2 energizes during a user-defined "on" period (U41, U40) and de-energizes during an "off" period (U43, U42). The time units can be set to seconds, minutes, or hours.
  • Over Temperature Protection: When enabled (U46 = 1 or 2), R2 energizes if the measured temperature reaches or exceeds the high-temperature warning point (SP + U13).
  • Combined Timer and Over Temperature Protection: R2 can operate with both functions simultaneously.

The device also incorporates several warning and protection features:

  • Low/High Temperature Warning: The display blinks and the buzzer beeps if the measured temperature falls below the low-temperature warning point (SP - U12) or rises above the high-temperature warning point (SP + U13).
  • External Input Warning: An external input (U60) can be configured as normally open or normally closed. If triggered, R1 de-energizes, and R2 continues to operate.
  • Sensor Failure Warning: If the sensor fails (open or short circuit), the display blinks, the buzzer beeps, R1 de-energizes, and R2 continues to operate.
  • Auto Tuning: The controller can automatically tune PID parameters (Kp, Ti, Td) to optimize control performance for a specific system. This involves setting a driving power rate (U73) and initiating the auto-tuning process, during which the temperature will oscillate around the set-point until optimal parameters are found.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Sensor: NTC, R25°C = 10K, B25/50°C = 3470K.
  • Setting Range: -40.0 ~ 130.0°C.

  • Timer Periods: 1 ~ 9999 units (seconds, minutes, or hours).

Usage Features:

  • Intuitive Display: The device features a clear digital display that shows the current temperature (PV), set-point (SP), and various status indicators (e.g., heater status, timer status, auto-tune status, failure warnings). Blinking indicators signify active warnings or settings.
  • Easy Set-point Adjustment: The set-point (SP) can be easily adjusted by pressing and holding the 'S' button, then using the up/down arrows to change the value, and pressing 'S' again to save.
  • System Parameter Configuration: Accessing system parameters (U10 to U99) involves pressing and holding the 'P' button. Users can navigate through parameters, view their values, and adjust them using the up/down arrows. A password (U99) can be set to restrict access to these parameters.
  • Auto Tuning Functionality: The auto-tuning feature simplifies the process of optimizing PID parameters, making it easier for users to achieve stable and accurate temperature control without manual trial and error.
  • Buzzer Control: The buzzer sounds during failures or warnings and can be silenced by pressing the 'P' button.
  • Model and Version Display: Upon reset, the device displays its model (ZL-7817A) and version (e.g., 1.0) consecutively.

Maintenance Features:

  • Sensor Calibration (U30): The sensor can be calibrated to compensate for any inherent tolerance, improving the absolute sensing accuracy to within 0.1°C.
  • Restore to Factory Settings: The device can be easily reset to its factory default parameters by simultaneously pressing and holding the 'P' and '▲' buttons for 5 seconds, then confirming the action. This is useful for troubleshooting or reconfiguring the controller.
  • Wiring Guidelines: The manual provides clear instructions for proper wiring, emphasizing the importance of using certified technicians, avoiding wrong connections, and separating sensor wires from power supply wires to prevent electrical noise.
  • Load Management: Specific guidelines are provided for connecting different types of loads (AC/DC modules, tungsten lamps, motors) to prevent damage to the controller outputs due to surging currents. For instance, the rated current for tungsten lamps should not exceed 1/15th of the output specification under pure resistance.
  • Environmental Considerations: Recommendations are given for avoiding installation in environments with high humidity, vibrations, corrosive air, or explosive atmospheres to ensure the longevity and reliable operation of the controller.
  • Manual Tuning Principle: For advanced users, the manual explains how to manually adjust PID parameters (Kp, Ti, Td) to fine-tune control behavior, such as increasing Kp for faster control (but potentially more overshoot) or increasing Ti for greater accuracy (but longer stabilization time).
