The Luxair MODA series of cooker hoods, including models LA-60-MODA, LA-70-MODA, LA-80-MODA, LA-90-MODA, LA-100-MODA, LA-110-MODA, and LA-120-MODA, are designed for domestic use to extract kitchen vapours. These hoods are intended for installation in a dropped ceiling, which must be sturdy enough to support the appliance's weight of 30kg. It's crucial not to install the hood directly into dropped ceiling panels but to use a suitable frame or support. The minimum distance between the cooking equipment's supporting surface on the hob and the lowest part of the range hood must be at least 50cm for electric cookers and 65cm for gas or mixed cookers. If the gas hob's installation instructions specify a greater distance, that distance must be adhered to.
The hood can be configured for either exhausting (ducting) or filtering (recirculating) operation. In the ducting version, fumes are conveyed outside the building through a special pipe connected to the connection ring on top of the hood. The exhausting pipe, which is not supplied and must be purchased separately, should have a diameter equal to that of the connection ring. For horizontal runs, the pipe should be slightly slanted (about 10°) and directed upwards to facilitate air venting. If the hood is supplied with an active charcoal filter, it must be removed for ducting operation. It is important to use a duct of the minimum indispensable length, with as few elbows as possible (maximum 90° angle), and to avoid drastic changes in the duct's cross-section. The duct should have an interior that is as smooth as possible and must be made of certified material. Using tubes and discharge holes with smaller dimensions will reduce suction performance and increase noise.
For the filter version, an active charcoal filter is required and can be obtained from a retailer. This filter removes grease and odours from the extracted air before returning it to the room through the upper outlet grid. The charcoal filter cannot be washed or regenerated and must be replaced at least every four months, or more frequently depending on usage and the regularity of cleaning the grease filter.
The electrical connection requires the mains power supply to match the rating indicated on the plate inside the hood. If a plug is provided, connect the hood to an accessible socket in compliance with current regulations after installation. If there is no plug (direct mains connection) or if the plug is not accessible after installation, a double pole switch must be applied in accordance with standards that ensure complete disconnection of the mains under over-current category III conditions. Before reconnecting the hood circuit to the mains supply and checking its function, ensure the mains cable is correctly assembled. The hood comes with a special power cable; if damaged, a new one should be requested from Technical Service. Expansion wall plugs are provided for mounting, but a qualified technician must verify their suitability for the specific wall/ceiling type, which must be strong enough to support the hood's weight. The appliance should not be tiled, grouted, or siliconed to the wall; it is for surface mounting only.
For operation, it is recommended to switch on the cooker hood suction 5 minutes prior to cooking, keep it running during cooking, and for approximately 15 minutes after cooking, especially for concentrated kitchen vapours. The control panel features buttons for speed decrease (-), speed increase (+), a display, a timer, and ON/OFF lights. The speed timing function is activated by selecting a speed and then pressing the timer button. The LED dim function allows adjustment of the light intensity to three levels by pressing the light button for about 3 seconds. The LED light temperature can also be adjusted: pressing the minus button and the light button simultaneously activates the menu (indicated by "L" flashing on the display), and the light colour can then be changed using the plus and minus keys. Pressing the light button again confirms the setting and exits the colour change mode.
Maintenance is crucial for the hood's longevity and safe operation. Before any maintenance, the hood must be isolated from the electrical supply by switching off at the connector and removing the fuse, or by unplugging it if connected via a plug and socket. Always wear work gloves for installation and maintenance. The hood should be cleaned regularly, both internally and externally, at least once a month, or with the same frequency as the fat filters are maintained. Use a cloth dampened with a neutral liquid detergent; abrasive products and alcohol should not be used. Failure to follow cleaning recommendations and filter replacement can lead to fire risks and will void the manufacturer's responsibility for any damage.
The grease filters, which trap cooking grease particles, should be cleaned once a month using non-aggressive detergents, either by hand or in a dishwasher on a low temperature and short cycle. Dishwashing may cause slight discolouration, but this does not affect filtering capacity. To remove the grease filter, pull the spring release handle.
For replacing lamps, refer to the provided drawings. First, disassemble the aluminium filters. Then, push the lighting downwards from the inside and grab it from the outside. Disconnect the complete element and replace it with a new part, then reassemble in reverse order. It is important to use only the same type of lighting as originally installed by the manufacturer; if unsure, contact a dealer.
The appliance is designed to be operated by adults, and children should be monitored to ensure they do not play with it or tamper with the controls. Never use the hood without effectively mounted grating, and it should not be used as a support surface unless specifically indicated. The premises where the hood is installed must be sufficiently ventilated, especially when other gas combustion devices or fuel-burning appliances are in use. The ducting system must not be connected to any existing ventilation system used for other purposes. Flaming foods beneath the hood is strictly prohibited as it damages filters and poses a fire risk. Frying should be done carefully to prevent oil from overheating and igniting. Accessible parts of the hood may become hot during cooking. All technical and safety measures for fume discharging must comply with local authority regulations.
The product is marked according to European directive 2002/96/EC on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), indicating it should not be treated as household waste. It must be taken to an appropriate collection point for recycling electrical and electronic equipment, in accordance with local environmental regulations.
