Overview

This document is an owner's manual for a MAAX 2-panel shower or tub door. The model numbers covered are 135276, 135277, 135278, 135279, 135280, 136300, 136301, and 136302.

Function Description

The MAAX 2-panel door is designed for use in shower or tub enclosures. It consists of two panels that slide to open and close, providing access to and from the shower or tub area. The door is installed on a track system, with rollers on the top frame and guides on the bottom track to ensure smooth operation. A towel bar is included, which can be installed on the door panels. The system also incorporates gaskets and silicone application to ensure a watertight seal.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual provides a detailed list of components and their descriptions, along with quantities and part numbers. Key components include:

  • Wall Jamb (A): The vertical frame secured to the wall.
  • Header (B): The top horizontal frame.
  • Bottom Track (C): The bottom horizontal frame where the door panels slide.
  • Top Frame (D): The frame on the top of the door panels that holds the rollers.
  • Side Frame with Slot (F): The vertical frame of the door panels where the towel bar supports are inserted.
  • Towel Bar (H): The bar for hanging towels.
  • Rollers (FF): Components that allow the door panels to slide along the top frame.
  • Plastic Guides (II): Components that guide the door panels along the bottom track.
  • Gaskets (K): Seals to prevent water leakage.
  • Wall Anchors (EE): Plastic anchors for securing wall jambs.
  • Screws (AA, BB, CC, DD, J): Various screws for assembly, including #6 x 1-1/2" screws, #6 x 3/8" screws, and #6 x 3/4" screws.
  • Bumpers (GG): Self-adhesive bumpers placed on the wall jambs.

The installation process involves precise measurements and cuts. For instance, the bottom track (C) needs to be cut 11/16" (17.5 mm) shorter than the opening, and the header (B) needs to be cut 1/16" (2 mm) shorter than the opening along the top of the wall jambs. Drill bit sizes vary based on the wall material: 7/32" (5.5 mm) for ceramic tile, 3/16" (4.8 mm) for drywall, and 1/8" (3.2 mm) for plastic.

MAAX products are certified by various agencies, including CSA, UL, IAPMO, ULI, INTERTEK (ETL), WARNOCK HERSEY, US TESTING, and NAHB.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  • General Cleaning: Mild liquid household cleaners are recommended to keep the metal surface bright and clean. Rinse well and dry with a soft, clean cloth.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners, scrapers, metal brushes, or any items/products that could scratch or dull the surface.
  • Chemical Avoidance: Do not allow the surface to come into contact with products such as acetone (nail polish remover), dry cleaning solution, lacquer thinner, or gasoline.
  • Dust Removal: Remove dust with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Stain Removal: Clean grease, oil, paint, and ink with rubbing alcohol.
  • Scratch/Stain Repair: Accidental scratches or stains, if visible, can often be removed with a liquid automobile polish.

Warranty: MAAX Canada Inc. offers a limited warranty. For personal household use, the warranty period for shower doors is ten (10) years from the initial date of purchase. For commercial applications, the warranty period is one (1) year. The warranty covers defects in workmanship and materials under normal use and service.

Warranty Limitations:

  • The warranty does not cover damages caused by faulty, careless, abusive, or improper installation, maintenance, alteration, or modification of the unit, as well as chemical or natural corrosion, accident, fire, flood, act of God, or any other casualty.
  • The warranty does not cover loss of use or profit.
  • MAAX is not responsible for labor costs, damages, or claims resulting from the purchase of products that do not fit through openings or existing structures.
  • MAAX is not liable for personal injuries or death due to any person or any direct, special, incidental, or consequential damage, loss of time, loss of profits, inconvenience, incidental expenses, labor or material charges, or any other costs resulting from the use of the product or equipment or pertaining to the application of the present warranty, or resulting from the removal or replacement of any product or element or part covered by this warranty.
  • The warranty is expressly disclaimed for merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose or compliance with any code.
  • MAAX cannot be liable for any amount over and above the purchase price paid for the product.

Warranty Service: To obtain service, contact the dealer or distributor who sold the unit, or MAAX directly during regular business hours. Conditions for service include:

  1. The failure is covered by the warranty.
  2. The user has informed an authorized MAAX Agent or Warranty Service Department representative of the problem during the warranty period.
  3. Conclusive evidence (e.g., proof of purchase or installation) is provided, demonstrating the failure occurred or was discovered within the warranty period.

MAAX's warranty obligation is discharged upon tender of replacement or repair. Refusal to accept this terminates the warranty obligation.

Special Installation Instructions for Prefabricated Stalls: Fiberglass or acrylic construction may not be strong enough to support the shower door enclosure. To ensure secure mounting, wood framing behind the face edge of the stall is important. Before installation, apply a bead of silicone between walls and the base of the stall.
