This document is an instruction manual for the Magic Chef MCBR460S Stainless Steel Look Refrigerator. It provides essential information for proper use, installation, operation, and maintenance of the appliance.

Function Description

The Magic Chef MCBR460S is a 4.6 cubic feet stainless steel look refrigerator designed for home use. Its primary function is to keep food and beverages chilled and to make ice cubes. It features a freezer compartment for frozen items and a main refrigerator compartment for fresh food. The unit is designed to be free-standing and is not intended for recessed or built-in installation, nor for use in garages or other outside locations. It is also not designed to be used with an inverter.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model No.: MCBR460S
  • Capacity: 4.6 Cu. Ft.
  • Unit Dimensions (inches):
    • Width: 20.5"
    • Height: 32.1"
    • Depth: 22.1"
  • Net Weight: 66.14 lbs
  • Electrical Requirements: Standard 115V~ / 60Hz electrical outlet with three-prong ground.
  • Temperature Control: Knob-based control with settings from "1" (warmest) to "7" (coldest). "4" is recommended for normal home/office use. "0" turns off the cooling cycle but does not disconnect power.
  • Defrosting: Manual push-button defrosting for the freezer compartment.
  • Reversible Door: The door can be configured to open from either the left or right side.

Usage Features

Installation:

  • Placement: Requires 5 inches of space between the back and sides for proper air ventilation. Should be placed on a strong, level floor, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Leveling: Adjustable feet are provided to ensure the refrigerator is level.
  • Initial Setup: After connecting to power, the unit should stand upright for approximately 4 hours before use. It should then be allowed to cool for 2-3 hours with the temperature control set to "7" before placing food inside.
  • Leg Assembly: The refrigerator comes with removable legs (3 long, 1 short) that can be screwed into holes at the bottom of the unit. The short leg must be screwed into the base bracket.

Operation:

  • Temperature Control: The temperature control knob is located on the top left-hand corner of the refrigerator compartment. Settings range from 1 (warmest) to 7 (coldest), with 4 being the recommended normal setting. To turn off cooling, set the knob to "0".
  • Ice Making: Fill the ice cube tray to 80% capacity with drinkable water, place it in the freezer compartment, and set the temperature control to "7" for 2-5 hours. After ice is formed, twist the tray to release cubes and reset the control to "4".
  • Defrosting: When ice/frost in the freezer compartment is approximately 1¼" thick, press the "push button manual defrosting" button on the thermostat (from position I to II). After 15-50 minutes, the button will return to its original position. Remove the drip tray, empty the water, and clean it. Do not use hot water or electric heating devices for defrosting.
  • Door Reversal: The door can be reversed from right-hand to left-hand opening. This involves removing the base bracket, pivot, and axle, then reinstalling them on the opposite side. If legs are assembled, the short leg must be removed from the base bracket before starting and reinstalled afterward. After tilting the unit for door reversal, wait 24 hours before plugging it in.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  • Regular Cleaning: Recommended upon installation and periodically thereafter.
  • Procedure: Turn off and unplug the refrigerator. Remove all food. Wash the interior with a damp cloth soaked in a solution of lukewarm water and baking soda (2 tablespoons per quart of water). Clean the door gasket (seal) to maintain efficiency. Clean the exterior with mild detergent and warm water. Dry all surfaces with a soft cloth.

Vacation Time:

  • Short Vacations (less than 3 weeks): Leave the refrigerator operating normally.
  • Long Vacations (several months): Turn off and unplug the unit. Remove all food. Clean the refrigerator thoroughly. To prevent odors and mold, leave the door slightly open (blocking it open if necessary) or remove the door.

Moving the Refrigerator:

  • Turn off and unplug the unit. Remove all food. Securely tape down all loose items inside and tape the doors shut. Ensure the refrigerator remains in an upright position during transportation.

Energy Saving Tips:

  • Locate the refrigerator in the coolest area of the room, away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
  • Allow hot foods to cool to room temperature before placing them in the refrigerator.
  • Avoid overloading the refrigerator.
  • Wrap foods properly and wipe containers dry to reduce frost build-up.
  • Organize and label food to minimize door openings and search time.

Safety Instructions:

  • Read all instructions before use.
  • Child Entrapment Warning: Remove doors and leave shelves in place when disposing of the unit. Never allow children to operate, play with, or crawl inside.
  • Never clean parts with flammable fluids.
  • Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors/liquids near the refrigerator.
  • Never touch the freezer compartment or frozen foods with wet hands to avoid frostbite.
  • Ensure proper grounding; do not cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord.
  • Do not use an extension cord.
  • Always grip the plug firmly when unplugging.

Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the refrigerator not operating, compressor cycling frequently, temperature issues (too warm or too cold), external surface warmth, strange noises (popping, gurgling, vibrations), and moisture formation (inside/outside walls), and door closure problems. Each problem is listed with possible causes and solutions.
