What to do if the Mainstays Outdoor Fireplace burner will not stay lit when control knob is released?
    • C
      Catherine MitchellAug 4, 2025
If the burner won't stay lit after releasing the control knob on your Mainstays Outdoor Fireplace, several factors could be at play. First, ensure you hold the knob in for a full 30 seconds after the burner lights to allow the thermocouple to heat up. High winds exceeding 10 mph (16 km/h) can also cause the unit to shut down, so consider relocating the fire pit or using it on calmer days. Check for any lava rock or debris obstructing the ignition area, especially the small hole below the thermocouple. Clean both the thermocouple and its connection to the valve, ensuring it's properly tightened. If problems persist, the thermocouple or valve may need replacement.

Why is my Mainstays Outdoor Fireplace valve set to high but there is low heat output?
    • Q
      qmcdonaldAug 9, 2025
If your Mainstays Outdoor Fireplace has low heat output despite the valve being set to high, accompanied by rumbling noises and a fluttering blue flame, it could be due to several reasons. Check the propane cylinder's gas level and ensure the supply hose isn't pinched. A dirty or clogged burner orifice, or obstructions in the venturi tube, can also cause this issue, so clean them accordingly. Finally, make sure you follow the lighting procedure carefully, with all valves off when the tank valve is opened, and turn the tank on slowly to allow pressure to equalize. The propane regulator might be in a “low flow” state.

What to do if the Mainstays MSS136144273001 Outdoor Fireplace burner will not light with the igniter?
    • B
      Brandon TorresAug 14, 2025
If the burner on your Mainstays Outdoor Fireplace won't light with the igniter but lights with a match, the issue likely lies with the igniter itself. Start by checking the battery; it may be dead or incorrectly installed. Replace it with a new battery if necessary. Also, inspect the electrode wire to ensure it's firmly connected to the terminal on the back of the igniter. If your unit has an ignition switch, verify that the lead wires from the module to the switch are securely attached to their terminals.

Why does my Mainstays MSS136144273001 Outdoor Fireplace have a low flame and heat?
    • Z
      Zachary LewisAug 19, 2025
If your Mainstays Outdoor Fireplace exhibits low flame and heat even when the valve is set to high, it's likely that the propane lighting procedure wasn't followed correctly. Ensure you adhere to the lighting procedure meticulously. The valve must be in the off position when you turn on the tank valve. Turn the tank on slowly to allow pressure to equalize.

    Nathan BrennanAug 25, 2025
Why does my Mainstays MSS136144273001 Outdoor Fireplace burner burn with a yellow flame?
    • S
      Shane BradyAug 25, 2025
If the burners on your Mainstays Outdoor Fireplace are burning with a yellow flame and there's a smell of gas, it suggests there might be an obstruction. A spider web or other debris could be the culprit. Thoroughly clean the burner venturi.
  • M
    Mr. Steven CardenasAug 29, 2025
Why is my Mainstays MSS136144273001 regulator humming?
    • K
      Kenneth MooreAug 29, 2025
The humming sound from the regulator of your Mainstays Outdoor Fireplace is a normal occurrence, especially on hot days. This isn't a defect but rather caused by internal vibrations within the regulator. It doesn't impact the performance or safety of the gas heater, and a humming regulator will not be replaced.
