Overview

The Majic Attic Lift is an electric home appliance designed to assist homeowners in transporting static items between their attic storage space and the main floor, typically from a garage space to an attic. It is intended for use as a lift for static items and is not to be used for transporting people or children.

Function Description

The Majic Attic Lift operates by an electric motor, raising or lowering a basket to move items between the two levels. Users load items onto the basket, and then activate the motor using a wireless remote control to lift or lower the load. Once items are transported, the basket is returned to the attic for safe storage.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: MAL 24
  • Weight Limit: 150 pounds maximum capacity. This limit must not be exceeded.
  • Loading Platform Width: 21.5 inches.
  • Operating Module: Wireless remote control.
  • Safety Features: Built-in obstacle detection (motor), pulley guards, red safety chain, caution strips, and sensors to stop unintended movement beyond the lift's path.
  • Power Source: Requires a grounded power outlet or extension cord.

Usage Features

Control Interface: The lift is controlled by a wireless remote with three buttons:

  • UP arrow: Lifts the basket.
  • DOWN arrow: Lowers the basket.
  • "my" button: Stops the basket's movement.

Operational Environment:

  • Users should stage items in the intended storage area and clear the area for unloading.
  • Proper attire is required: secure loose-fitting clothes, avoid scarves, neckties, necklaces, and jewelry that can be caught by moving parts. Long hair should be tied up. Wear safe, non-slip shoes.
  • The work area must be kept clear of obstacles to prevent falls or injury.

Steps of Operation (General):

  1. Lower the loading basket to the lower work station.
  2. Load items, ensuring they are secured and centered on the platform.
  3. Do not overload the basket (max 150 lbs).
  4. Ensure the load is stable and within the confines of the lift arms and platform. Do not lift objects that can roll or tip.
  5. Check that the two bungees are not attached to the upper frame or motor before lowering.
  6. Stand clear of the lift area and operate using the remote control.
  7. WATCH the lift area during operation to ensure no one walks below the lift.
  8. Unload items.
  9. When finished, raise the lift to the attic storage area, replace the Red Safety chain, unplug the lift (or turn off the switch), and store the remote in a safe place out of reach of children.

Staging the Load for Lift (Illustrated Load Rules):

  • Center the load: Weight must be evenly dispersed across the platform to prevent tilting.
  • Contain loose items: Any items not within a container may obstruct the lift. All items must be secured.
  • Height limitation: The height of the load is limited by the height of the attic space.
  • Secure unstable items: Unstable or wheeled items must be secured in a container that fits within the frame to prevent movement during the lift procedure.

Emergency and Exceptional Situations:

  • If the basket gets stuck, immediately press the "My" button to stop the motor and call Majic Stairs Inc. for assistance (352) 446-6592.
  • If a cable breaks, do not go under the basket. Call Majic Stairs Inc. for assistance (352) 446-6592.

Maintenance Features

Regular Inspections (Before Each Use):

  • Inspect cables for signs of wear or fray. If found, cease use immediately and replace cables.
  • Inspect the power cord for damage (splits, cuts, breaks in wiring).
  • Inspect the motor head and frame arms for metal fatigue, bent components, or broken pieces.
  • Verify that the four white plastic corner guards are in place.
  • Check moving parts for obstructions and remove any loose debris.
  • Maintain a clear work area.

Periodic Inspections (Every 3 Months):

  • Inspect all fastener connections.

Troubleshooting:

  • MAL does not start: Check electrical outlet breaker, replace remote battery (CR2430), or allow motor to cool for 10-15 minutes if overheated.
  • Basket does not close completely / does not land on floor: This indicates cable stretch. To reset, raise/lower the basket until it stops, then simultaneously press and hold the "Up" and "Down" arrows until the basket jogs. Use the "Up" or "Down" arrow to bump the basket until it "just" closes/touches the floor, then hold the "My" button until it jogs.
  • Basket closes, then drops approximately 1 foot: Check for obstructions in the load. If clear, the top stop may not be set correctly. With the basket at the topmost position, press and hold "Up" and "Down" arrows simultaneously until the basket jogs. Use the "Up" button to raise the basket until the door "just" closes, then hold "My" until the motor jogs.
  • Basket gets jammed/stuck in opening: Refer to page 15 for instructions and call Majic Stairs Inc. (352) 446-6592.
  • Basket is jammed or stuck: Immediately press the "My" button to stop the motor. Do not allow the motor to unwind the cable. Press the "Up" button until the motor stops winding the cable back up. Call your dealer or Majic Stairs Inc. (352) 446-6592.

Battery Replacement (Remote):

  1. If the red light on the remote stops blinking, replace the battery (CR2430).
  2. Remove three Phillips head screws from the back of the remote.
  3. Carefully detach the back cover.
  4. Slide out the CR2430 battery and replace it.
  5. Dispose of old batteries according to local codes.

Safety Warnings (General):

  • No person under 18 years of age should operate the product.
  • Children and visitors must be kept away from the lift during operation and from the attic area at all times.
  • The remote control should be removed and stored out of reach of children when not in use.
  • Always raise the basket until it's closed when not in use.
  • Never ride on the lift or allow anyone else to.
  • Stay on decked areas in the attic; non-decked areas will not support weight.
  • Be aware of overhead hazards (exposed nails) and openings (ladder/lift).
  • Cover openings with plywood when working over them.
  • Follow power tool safety guidelines and wear safety gear.
  • Avoid working alone in a hot attic or if you have health conditions affecting balance/mobility.
  • Do not operate in damp, wet, or poorly lit attic spaces.
  • Do not use in the presence of flammable gases or liquids.
  • Keep the work area clear.
  • Use only grounded power outlets/extension cords.
  • Read and understand the manual completely before installation and operation.
  • Do not stand under the lift while in operation.
  • Unplug the power cord when the lift is not in use.
  • Be alert to overhead hazards; mark potential hazards with paint or tape.
  • The attic railing is a visual clue to remain clear of the opening, not to hold a person's weight.
