What to do if Makita PLM4110 Lawn Mower engine is difficult to start or loses power?

      Darrell BakerAug 23, 2025
If your Makita Lawn Mower engine is hard to start or loses power, the issue might stem from dirt, water, or stale fuel in the tank; in this case, drain the fuel and clean the tank, then fill it with clean, fresh fuel. Another potential cause is a plugged vent hole in the fuel tank cap, which you should clean or replace. A dirty air cleaner element can also cause these problems, so make sure to clean it.

How to start a Makita Lawn Mower when the engine won't start?
    • K
      Kristina GarciaAug 26, 2025
If your Makita Lawn Mower engine isn't starting, there are several potential causes. First, ensure the throttle chock is in the correct position. Next, check if the fuel tank is empty and fill it if necessary. Also, inspect the spark plug: tighten it to 25 - 30 Nm if loose, ensure the spark plug wire is correctly installed, and set the gap between the electrodes to 0.7 to 0.8 mm. If the spark plug is defective, it should be replaced. Additionally, a dirty air cleaner element needs cleaning, and a carburetor flooded with fuel requires you to remove the air cleaner element and pull the starter rope until it clears. If none of these work, the ignition module may be faulty, requiring assistance from a Makita authorized service center.
