Overview

This document is an Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual for the Manitowoc NEO™ UnderCounter Ice Machines. It provides comprehensive information for the proper setup, use, and upkeep of these commercial ice makers.

Function Description:

The Manitowoc NEO™ UnderCounter Ice Machines are designed to produce ice in various forms (Regular, Dice, Half-dice, Flake, Nugget, Gourmet) for commercial use. These self-contained units are intended for indoor installation and are capable of producing between 140 and 310 pounds of ice per day, depending on the model. The machines feature a control board that manages the ice-making sequence, including water purge, pre-chill, freeze, and harvest cycles. They are equipped with safety limits to prevent major component failure and ensure reliable operation. Some models also offer an optional LuminIce™ growth inhibitor, which uses a UV bulb to inhibit the growth of microorganisms in the ice machine's food zone.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Ice Production: Models range from 140 lbs/day (UDF0140A) to 310 lbs/day (UDF0310A).
  • Refrigerant Types: Available with R290 (propane), R404A, R410A, R600A (butane), or R134a. Note that R290 (propane) is flammable and requires specific handling by trained personnel.
  • Condenser Types: Air-cooled, Water-cooled, Remote, or CVD (remote).
  • Electrical Configurations: Various options including 115/60/1, 208-230/60/1, 220-240/50/1, 208-230/60/3, 200/50-60/1, 380-415/50/3, and 460/60/3.
  • Voltage Tolerance: Maximum allowable voltage variation is ±10% of the rated voltage.
  • Fuse/Circuit Breaker: A separate fuse/circuit breaker is required for each machine. Total circuit ampacity varies by model and voltage, ranging from 2.5 to 10.0 Amps for air-cooled units and 3.0 to 10.0 Amps for water-cooled units.
  • Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI/GFI): Not recommended by Manitowoc due to nuisance trips, but local codes must be followed if required.
  • Ambient Air Temperature: Must be between 40°F (4°C) and 110°F (43°C).
  • Incoming Water Temperature: Must be between 40°F (4°C) and 90°F (32°C).
  • Water Pressure: 20-80 psi (137.9-551.5 kPa) for ice making water inlet. Condenser water inlet can handle up to 150 psi (1034.2 kPa).
  • Water Supply & Drain Line Sizing: 3/8 Female Pipe Thread for ice making water inlet, 1/2 Female Pipe Thread for condenser water inlet (U310 only), and 1/2 Female Pipe Thread for condenser water drain, bin drain, and ice making water outlet. Minimum inside diameters for tubing are 3/8" (9.5 mm) and 1/2" (12.7 mm) respectively.
  • Heat Rejection (Air Conditioning): Ranges from 2200 BTU/Hour (U190) to 3800 BTU/Hour (U310) on average.
  • Shipping Weight: Ranges from 153 lbs (69 kg) for U0140/U0190 models to 211 lbs (96 kg) for U0310 models.

Usage Features:

  • Touch Pad Control: Features pressure-sensitive buttons for On/Off, Delay, Clean, Bin Full, and Service status.
  • On/Off Button: Starts and stops ice making. A blue light indicates whether the machine is on or off.
  • Delay Feature: Allows users to delay ice production for 4, 12, or 24 hours. The delay is canceled if power is interrupted.
  • Clean Cycle: Initiated by pressing the Clean button for 3 seconds when the machine is off. The machine automatically starts an ice-making cycle after cleaning. The clean cycle can be paused or aborted.
  • Bin Full Indicator: A blue light indicates when the ice bin is full.
  • Service Light: A red light indicates that the machine requires attention, often due to a safety limit being triggered.
  • Ice Thickness Adjustment: A bracket allows for three levels of ice thickness adjustment by raising or lowering the water level in the trough.
  • Safety Limits: Built-in safety features stop the machine under certain conditions (e.g., prolonged freeze or harvest cycles, lack of water) to prevent damage. These can be reset by pressing the On/Off button.

Maintenance Features:

  • Routine Cleaning and Sanitizing: Recommended every six months for efficient operation. More frequent cleaning may be needed depending on water quality.
  • Manitowoc Cleaner and Sanitizer: Only approved products should be used, available in 16 oz (473 ml) and 1 gal (3.78 L) bottles. Specific amounts are provided for each model (e.g., 2 oz cleaner for U0140, 5 oz for U0190/U0240/U0310).
  • Cleaning Procedure: Involves removing ice, starting a clean cycle, adding cleaner to the water trough, waiting for completion, then removing specific parts for manual cleaning with a cleaner solution.
  • Sanitizing Procedure: After cleaning, a sanitizer solution is used on all components and food zone surfaces. Parts are not rinsed after sanitizing.
  • Parts Removal for Cleaning: Detailed instructions are provided for removing the ice thickness and harvest float switch, water trough thermistor and water trough, and ice damper and water distribution tube.
  • Condenser Cleaning: Recommended at least every six months. Involves shining a flashlight through the fins to check for dirt and blowing compressed air from the inside out.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Regular cleaning with mild soap and water is recommended to maintain cleanliness.
  • Ice Machine Inspection: Regular checks for water leaks, refrigeration tubing rubbing, and adequate airflow around the machine.
  • Preventative Maintenance Cleaning: A procedure that can be performed between bi-annual cleaning/sanitizing cycles without removing ice from the bin.
  • Removal from Service/Winterization: Includes cleaning and sanitizing, turning off power and water, draining water lines, and spraying interior surfaces with sanitizer.
