Overview

The MFS110 is a high-quality USB optical fingerprint scanner designed for robust and secure biometric authentication, identification, and verification. Its hard optical sensor is engineered to withstand scratches, impacts, vibrations, and electrostatic shock, making it suitable for both desktop environments and complex network infrastructures where high-level biometric security is paramount.

Function Description

The primary function of the MFS110 is to capture fingerprint images for biometric security purposes. It connects to a computer via a USB cable, allowing for seamless integration into existing systems. The device is capable of performing various biometric operations, including:

  • Authentication: Verifying the identity of a user by comparing a live fingerprint scan against a stored template.
  • Identification: Determining the identity of a user by searching a database of stored fingerprint templates for a match.
  • Verification: Confirming a claimed identity by comparing a live fingerprint scan with a specific stored template associated with that identity.

The MFS110 is designed to provide reliable and accurate fingerprint data, contributing to enhanced security measures across a range of applications.

Usage Features

To ensure optimal performance and accurate fingerprint capture, users should adhere to specific guidelines when operating the MFS110:

  • Proper Finger Placement: For accurate scans, the finger should be positioned correctly on the sensor. The center of the first phalanx of the finger should be aligned with the center of the sensor. The finger must be parallel to the sensor sides, and its inclination should also be parallel to the sensor surface. Similarly, the finger's rotation must be parallel to the sensor surface. Incorrect placement, angle, inclination, or rotation can lead to scan rejections or inaccurate readings.
  • Driver Installation: Before initial use, the necessary drivers must be installed on the computer. In Windows environments, the device is typically detected automatically when plugged into a USB port, prompting driver installation. If the sensor is not detected as "Mantra fingerprint: MFS110" in the device manager, re-installation of the drivers is recommended. Technical support should be contacted if issues persist.
  • Operating Environment: The MFS110 should be operated within its specified operating limits regarding temperature and humidity to prevent damage and ensure consistent performance. Avoid exposing the sensor to rain or moisture.
  • USB Connection: Always use the USB cable provided with the device. Attempting to replace it with an incompatible cable may affect performance or damage the unit.
  • Power Management: Disconnect the sensor from the desktop when it is not in use to conserve power and prolong the device's lifespan.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and consistent performance of the MFS110. Users should follow these guidelines:

  • Handling: Handle the sensor with care to prevent physical damage. Avoid dropping or subjecting it to harsh impacts, as this can compromise the integrity of the optical sensor.
  • Cleaning the Platen Area: The glass portion (platen area) of the sensor should be cleaned regularly using the provided cleaning cloths. This prevents the accumulation of latent fingerprints, dust, or other debris that can interfere with accurate fingerprint detection and lead to rejections.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use strong chemicals or acids to clean the sensor, as these can damage the optical surface and internal components. Only use approved cleaning materials, such as the provided cleaning cloths.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the sensor in a cool and dry place. This protects it from extreme environmental conditions and reduces the risk of damage.
  • Disassembly Warning: Users should never attempt to disassemble the sensor. There are no user-serviceable parts inside, and any attempt to open the device will void the warranty and may cause irreparable damage.
  • Unauthorized Modifications: Any changes or modifications to the device not expressly approved by the manufacturer will void the user's authority to operate the equipment and will also void the warranty.

Adhering to these usage and maintenance instructions will ensure the MFS110 operates effectively and reliably, providing a secure and efficient biometric solution. Any damage to the device resulting from activities contrary to these guidelines will void the product warranty.
