4. Short Circuit or Overload on a Transformer
Abuilt-inthermalswitchprotectstheTransformerfrom
damageincaseofanoverloadorashortcircuit.Locomo-
tivesonthelayoutwillcometoastop,accessoriescannot
beoperatedandalllampsconnectedtotheTransformerwill
goout.
The following procedure is recommended:
1. Unplugthepowercordsforalltransformersfromtheir
outlets.
2. Lookforthecauseoftheshortcircuitonthelayoutand
correctit.
3. Afterabout1minutethethermalswitchwillgobackto
beingon.Afterthisamountoftimehaspassed,allTrans-
formerscanbeplacedinoperationagain.
IftheTransformershouldshutoffagainandyouareunable
tolocateashortcircuit,thentheTransformerisoverloaded.
InthiscasethenumberofusersconnectedtotheTransfor-
mermustbereduced.

AllMärklinproductsasdeliveredconformtotherelevant
regulationsonpreventinginterferencewithradioandtelevi-
sionreception.Wornoutmaterialsand/orfaultymainte-
nanceoftheproductaswellasoperationnotinaccordance
withtheinstructionscanleadtoincreasedinterferencewith
radioandtelevisionreception.Aninformationsheetonthis
subjectisavailableonrequest.
Thewiringdiagramsthatapplytothedifferentturnoutsor
signalscanbefoundintheinstructionsthecomewiththese
products.
Checking the Polarity
Whentwoormoretraincontroltransformersfordifferent
trackcircuitsareusedonalayout,itmayhappenthat
differentpolaritiesforthetransformersmaycauseastrong
sparkonthepickupshoeofalocomotivepassingoverthe
separationpointbetweentwotrackcircuits.Inthisinstance
theplugonthepowercordforoneofthetransformersmust
beremovedfromitsoutlet,turned180°andpluggedback
intotheoutlet.
