• Theturntableistobeusedonlywithanopera-
tingsystemdesignedforit(MärklinACtransfor-
mer,MärklinDelta,MärklinDigitalor
MärklinSystems).
• WARNING!Sharpedgesandpointsrequiredfor

2. General Information
The7286turntablecanbeusedforconventionalas
wellasdigitallocomotiveoperation.Forcontrolof
theturntableatransformerwith16voltalternating
currentisrequired,inadditiontothecontroller
includedwiththeturntable.
Withconventionalcontroloftheturntablethe
turntabledeckcanbeturnedinsinglestepstoany
desirededgesegment,oritcanbeturnedasfaras
desiredincontinousoperation.Ineithercasethe
deckcanbeturnedeitherrightorleft.
Theinterchangeableedgesegmentsallowthe
spoketrackstobeinstalledanywhereonthe
turntableat7,5°intervals.Itispossibletohaveup
to48spoketracks.
Theturntablecanalsobeusedinatworail
system.
The7286ConventionalMärklinTurntablecanbe
convertedwiththe7687DigitalRetrotKittothe
easy-to-usecontrolofthe7686digitalturntable.
Theturntabledoesnothavetoberemovedfrom
thelayoutortakenapartforthisconversion.Turn-
tablesofothermakesareingeneralnotequipped,
asdeliveredfromtheirmanufacturer,fortheinstal-
lationofthe7687DigitalRetrotKit.
Important Information:
The7286turntablehasbeendeliveredsince2002
inatechnicallydifferentversionthatispartof
theusualongoingproductdevelopment.Itcanbe
retrottedwithnoproblemwiththecurrentlyavail-
able7687digitalcircuit.Otherinformationabout
thenecessitytosendtheturntablewiththiscircuit
toourservicedepartment(example:intheMärklin
catalogfor2002/2003)donotapplytothecurrent
productionseries.
3. Installation on the Layout
Theturntableisdesignedforaushmountinstal-
lationonthelayout.Acircularholewithadiameter
of340mm(13-3/8‘‘)mustbecutinthebaseboard
ofthelayout.(Seeill.2forinstallationdimensions).
Theturntablealongwiththeedgesegmentssits
overthisholeandisxedinplacebythespoken
tracks.
Theterminalstripincludedwiththeturntableisto
bescrewedtothemountingpegsontheunderside
oftheturntablepitwiththescrewsincludedwith
theunit(ill.1).Theexistingterminalstriponthe
7286ConventionalTurntableisnolongerneeded
whenconvertingthisturntabelwiththe7687Digital
RetrotKit.
Theedgesegmentsfortheturntableareinter-
changeableandallowyoutosetupanarrange-
mentbestsuitedtoyourtracklayout.The6spoke
tracksincludedwiththeturntablecanbeexpand-
edby3trackswiththe7287ExtensionSet.
Tochangeedgesegmentsinaparticularlocation,
theturntabledeckmustbeturnedawayfromthat
area.Themachanismcanbereleasedforthis
purposewiththehandleveroppositetheengine
shed(ill.5).Thedeckcanbeturnedfreelywiththe
leverpulledbacktothemiddle.Whenreleasing
thelever,besurethatthedeckisappropriately
linedupwithanedgesegment.
Theedgesegmentscanberemovedbypushingup
onthespringytonguesinthemiddle(ill.6).Then,
thespoketrackscanbeinsertedinthedesired
location(ill.7).Theedgesegmentswithdummy
tracksareinsertedoppositethespoketracks,ifa
spoketrackisnotalreadyinthatposition.
ThetrackconnectionsaredesignedforMärklinK
Track.The2291adaptertrack(ill.3)canbeused
asanapproachtrackonlayoutswithMTrack;the
24922adaptertrack(ill.3)isusedonlayoutswith
thenewCTrack.
The72881locomotiveshedkitwithautomaticclos-
ingdoorscanbeusedwiththe7286turntable.The
spoketracksforthismustbesetat15°intervals
andacoverplateisinsertedontheedgeofthe
turntablebetweenthespoketracks(ill.4).
Important!
Donotbendtheouterendsofthespoketracks
down–thismaycausetherailcontactsforthe
turntabledecktobecomejammed.
4. Electrical Connections for the Turntable
Tip:The7286turntablecontrolisdesignedfor
operationwith16voltsAC.Theaccessoryoutputs
(0andL)ontheMärklintransformersusedforthe
H0systemaresuitableforthis.
Thesix-pinspecialplugontheatribboncable
ontheturntableisinsertedintothecorresponding
socketsontheterminalstripontheundersideof
theturntable(notetheshapeoftheplugindicat-
ingthatitcanonlybeinsertedonewayintothe
sockets).
Thethreeconductorcontrolwirefromthecontrol-
lertotheturntableisconnectedwiththeplugs
includedwiththeunittothesocketsmarked1
(blackwire),2(bluewire),and3(greenwire)on
theterminalstripontheundersideoftheturntable.
Theaccessorypowerwirestothecontrollerare
connectedtotheaccessorysocketsLand0onan
accessoryoratraintransformerwitha16voltAC
output(ill.1).
Theexistingcontrolboxforthe7286Conventional
Turntableisnolongerneededwhenusingthe7687
RetrotKitanddigitalKeyboardfordigitalcontrol
ofthisturntable.
Forconventionallocomotivecontrolthesockets
B 0 0areconnectedtoanormaltraincontrol
transformer(example:6647,6631or6627)(ill.1).
FordigitallocomotivecontrolthesocketsB 0 0
fortrackpowerareconnectedtoaDigitaltrack
powercircuit(ill.1).
Therunningrailsoftheturntabledeckareelectri-
callyseparatedfromeachother.Fornormal3-rail
operationthetwoconnections0 0ontheterminal
stripontheundersideoftheturntablearecon-
nectedtooneanotherwithoneoftheplugswith
sidesocketsincludedwiththeturntable.Other-
wise,oneofthetworailscanbeusedfortrack
detection/feedbackfunctions,forexample.Itis
justasequallypossibletohaveseparateconnec-
tionsforthesockets0 0fortwo-raillocomotive
operation.
Important information:
Thewirestothecontrollerandadditionalexten-
sionsofthesewiresmustbetwistedtoimprove
noisesuppressionforradioandtelevisionrecep-
tion(ill.1b).
