5. Operating the Turntable
Thecontrollerisusedtodeterminethedirectinin
whichtheturntabledeckisturnedandthetypeof
operationforit(ill.1).
Thedirectionofrotationforsinglestepsorforcon-
tinuousoperationispreselectedwiththerotary
switchontheright.

Whentherotaryswitchissetforthecenterposi-
tion,thedrivemechanismforthedeckisturned
off.
Theslidingswitchontheleftstartstheturntable
deckintheselecteddirectionofrotation.
Withthelowersettingthe–singlestep–pressing
thebuttonmovesthedeckoveroneedgesegment
(7.5°)andstopsitautomatically.Thesesinglesteps
areindependentofthebuilt-intrackconnections.
Withtheuppersetting–continuousoperation–
theslidingswitchlocksinplace,andtheturntable
deckwilloperatecontinuously.Justbeforereach-
ingthedesiredposition,theslidingswitchmustbe
disengagedandmovedtothecentersetting–0
–,wherebythedeckwillstopatthenextedge
segment.
Important Notes:
Activatethestartimpulse untilthedeck
turns(approx.1second).Ineventofproblemsorin-
terruptions,pleaseseeSection6oftheinstructions,
anddonotswitchovertocontinuous
operation.Thismaydamagethemechanism.
Themechanismfortheturntabledeckcanbecome
overloadediftheturntableisoperatedcontinu-
ously.Forthisreasonaftereveryfullrotationof
theturntabledeck(360°)themechanismmust
beallowedtorestforatleast10secondsbefore
resumingoperatinoftheturntable.
Theturntabledeckcanalsobemovedmanually
formaintenanceorconversionwork.Thedrive
mechanismcanbedisengagedwiththehandlever
oppositetheoperator‘scab(ill.5).Thedeckisfree
toturnwhentheleverispulledtowardsthemiddle
oftheturntablepit.Itispossibletostartthestage
driveonsitewiththecontrolunitconnectedby
pressingthehandleveroutwards.
Donotswitchthepowersupplytotheinstallation
offwhiletheturntableisbeingoperated.
6. Operating Locomotives
Thedecktrackisconstantlysuppliedwithtrack
power(conventionaltransformerordigitalsys-
tem).Withdigitaloperationanauxiliaryfunction
thathasbeenturnedon(example:headlightsor
smoke)remainson.
Thespoketrackslinedupwiththedeckare
suppliedwithpowerbythelatter,allotherspoke
tracksareshutoff.Thisinsuresthatnolocomo-
tiveaccidentallyapproachestheturntablefroma
spoketracknotalignedwiththedeck(especially
inconventionallocomotiveoperation).
Ifotherapproachandstalltracksaretohave
trackpowerwhentheyarenotalignedwiththe
deck(especiallyfordigitaloperation),theycan
besuppliedwithpowerfromfeedertracks(2290)
orcenterrailandgroundterminalclips(7504and
7500).Thisallowsdigitallocomotiveswithhead-
lightsonorsmokebeinggeneratedtobestoredon
stalltracks.
Thesignalboardsincludedwiththeturntablecan
beplacedatbothendsofthedeckandshouldface
outwards.
7. Trouble Shooting
Troublewiththeturntablemechanismwhen
thedeckshouldbestartedcanbecorrectedby
movingthehandleveroppositethemachineshed
oneormoretimestowardstheouteredgeofthe
turntable(ill5).
Shouldtheturntablestopbetweentwopositions
duetopowerfailure,pullthedisconnectinghand
levertowardsthecentreandturntheturntableby
handtothenearestrailconnection.
Incaseofproblemsduringoperation(example:the
deckrotatesroughlyorinjerks),allofthewiring
connectionsfortheturntableandthecontroller
shouldbechecked.Otherwise,problemsinthe
operationoftheturntablemayindicateaneedfor
maintenancework.
8. Care and Maintenance
Important note:
Themotorandgearboxhavebeenadequately
lubricatedatthefactory.Pleasedonotoil!This
couldcausedamage!
Thedeckcanberemovedifthereareoperating
problemsduetodirtyelectricalcontacts.Todothis
twoedgesegmentsoppositeeachothermustbe
removedandthedeckmovedsothatitisbetween
thetwoholes(ill.6,ill5).Afterlooseningthescrew
atthpivotpointforthedeck,thedeckcanbelifted
upoutoftheturntablepit.Thecontactstripson
thecentersupportandthecontactspringsonthe
deckcannowbecarefullycleaned.
Attention:Thecontactspringsunderthecentre
andundertheendsoftheturntablemustnotbe
bent.Pleasetreatcarefully!Makesurethatthe
twogratingcoversandthecontactspringare
properlypositionedunderthescrewwhenreas-
semblingthedeck(ill.8).
Thedeckmechanismisotherwisemaintenance-
free.Pleasehaveallnecessaryrepairstothe
mechanismunitsenttotheMärklinServiceCenter
byyourlocaldealer!Inappropriatehandlingwill
leadtoirreparabledamage!
