Overview

This document is a user manual for the Marvel Clear Ice Machine, available in several models: MA15C*, ML15C*, MO15C*, and MP15C*. The manual provides installation, operation, and maintenance instructions in both English and French.

Function Description:

The Marvel Clear Ice Machine is designed to produce clear ice with high clarity and purity through a process called fractional freezing. Water is run over a cold evaporator plate, gradually freezing into a slab of ice. Pure water freezes first, leaving dissolved solids in the residual reservoir water, which is then drained after each freezing cycle. Fresh water enters for the next cycle. When the ice slab reaches the correct thickness, it is released onto a grid cutter, where heated wires cut it into square cubes. The machine continues to produce ice until the bin is full and automatically restarts when ice needs replenishment. The ice bin is not refrigerated, and some melting occurs by design to preserve ice quality and clarity.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Connection: A grounded 115 volt, 15 amp dedicated circuit is required. The product is factory-equipped with a three-pronged, grounded plug.
  • Water Supply: Must be connected to a potable cold water supply line, delivering water pressure between a minimum of 20 psi and a maximum of 120 psi. 1/4" copper tubing is recommended for the water supply. A shutoff valve is recommended, but a self-piercing type valve is not. Reverse osmosis (RO), softened, and de-ionized water are not recommended as they can adversely affect ice quality and quantity.
  • Ice Production (Normal Mode): Up to 39 pounds (17.7 kg) of clear ice in a 24-hour period, when installed in a 72°F ambient with a 55°F water supply.
  • Ice Production (ECO Mode): Up to 29 pounds (13.2 kg) of clear ice in a 24-hour period.
  • Installation Location Temperature Range: 55°F to 90°F (13°C to 32°C) for built-in models, and 55°F to 100°F (13°C to 38°C) for freestanding models. The machine will not perform correctly below 55°F (13°C).
  • Drainage: Requires drain plumbing. Two variations are supported: gravity drain (no drain pump) and optional drain pump. For gravity drains, the drain line must be routed no higher than 6" (15.2 cm) off the floor. For drain pump models, maximum allowable drain line rise is 8 feet (2.44 meters) and horizontal run is 20 feet (6.1 meters).
  • Product Weight: MA15C** models weigh 100 lbs (45.5 kg). ML15C**, MO15C**, and MP15CP* models weigh 105 lbs (47.7 kg).
  • Overlay Door Panel Weight (ML15C & MP15C models): Must not exceed 15 pounds (6.8 kg).
  • Overlay Door Panel Weight (MA15C models): Must not exceed 20 pounds (9.1 kg).
  • Cabinet Dimensions: Vary by model, with heights ranging from 31" to 34 3/4" and widths of 15".
  • Rough-in Opening Dimensions: Vary by model, with heights from 31 1/4" to 35" and widths of 15".

Usage Features:

  • Electronic Control: Features an intuitive user interface with icons for On/Off, Menu, Light, Delay Timer, and Lock.
  • On/Off: Press and hold the "ON/OFF" icon for 3 seconds to turn the appliance on or off. When off, the ice machine completes its current production cycle then shuts down. The drain pump (if equipped) and interior light remain functional in OFF mode.
  • Control Lock: Press and hold the "LOCK" icon for 5 seconds to lock/unlock the user interface, preventing unintentional changes.
  • Door Ajar Alarm: An audible alarm sounds and the "DOOR" indicator flashes if the door is open for 5 minutes. The alarm can be muted or reset by closing the door or pressing the "ON/OFF" icon.
  • Delay Start/Vacation Mode: Allows temporary shutdown for 1, 4, 6, or 8 hours or days. The appliance resumes operation after the selected delay, ideal for noise reduction or energy saving.
  • ECO Mode: An optional mode that reduces ice production rate, saving approximately 25% energy and 30% water. Recommended for use after the ice bin is full.
  • Tri-Color Lighting (MP15CP Models Only): A slide switch on the toe grille allows changing the interior light color between blue, white, or amber.
  • Error Codes: The machine continuously monitors its operation and displays error codes for temperature sensor failures or communication loss between the control board and user interface.

Maintenance Features:

  • Clean Reminder: A "CLEAN" reminder appears every 6 months to prompt cleaning, which helps prevent mineral buildup on the evaporator plate. The reminder can be cleared by pressing the "ON/OFF" icon.
  • Clean Mode: A simple cleaning routine is recommended every six months to ensure maximum performance and ice quality. This involves turning off the machine, removing all ice, draining the water reservoir, allowing any embedded ice to melt from the grid cutter, and then pouring a "nickel safe" ice maker cleaner onto the evaporator plate. The machine then runs a clean and rinse cycle (approximately 49 minutes).
  • Care and Cleaning:
    • Front Grille: Keep open and clear of obstructions for proper ventilation. Brush or vacuum lint and dirt at least once or twice a year.
    • Cabinet: Wash with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
    • Interior: Wash with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, polishes, undiluted detergents, or chlorine-based cleaners.
    • Stainless Steel Surfaces: Routine cleaning is recommended to remove contaminants, especially in coastal areas. Periodically inspect and clean crevices, weld points, under gaskets, rivets, bolt heads, and any areas where liquid could collect.
  • Storage Preparation: If the machine is to be moved, unused for an extended period, or exposed to freezing temperatures, all water must be drained from the ice-making system. This involves turning off the water supply, disconnecting the water supply fitting, running a "CLEAN" cycle for 1 minute, then an "OFF" cycle to drain the reservoir, unplugging the machine, and removing the access cover to disconnect the water valve's outlet line. For drain pump models, a winterization plug is installed in the ice bin drain hole, and air pressure is applied to the vent tube to purge remaining water from the pump and drain line.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive guide for common issues such as the ice machine not operating, little or no ice production, noisy operation, ice quality problems (odor, grey color, off taste, clumps, size), and plumbing issues.
  • Service Information: For warranty service, contact Marvel Customer Service. The manual provides fields to record purchase details for future reference.
