Overview

This document is the Owner's Guide & Service Manual for Marvel Undercounter Refrigeration, specifically for Model MOCP215-SS01B. It provides comprehensive information on the appliance's operation, maintenance, and service.

Function Description:

The Marvel MOCP215-SS01B is an undercounter ice machine designed to produce clear ice. It utilizes a fractional freezing process where water is run over a cold evaporator plate, gradually freezing the water into a slab of clear ice with fewer dissolved solids. Once the ice slab reaches the correct thickness, it is released and slides onto a heated grid cutter, which cuts it into square cubes. After each freezing cycle, water containing dissolved minerals is drained, and fresh water enters for the next cycle. The unit is designed to maintain ice quality and clarity, with the ice bin not being refrigerated, allowing for some melting to preserve ice quality and ensure a constant supply of fresh ice.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Requirements: 115V/60Hz/15A, requiring a grounded 115 volt, 15 amp dedicated circuit.
  • Product Weight: 105 lbs (47.6 kg).
  • Ice Production: Up to 39 pounds (17.7 kg) of clear ice in a 24-hour period under optimal conditions (72°F ambient, 55°F water supply).
  • Refrigerant: R600a (isobutane), a flammable hydrocarbon.
  • Compressor (FMXA9C):
    • Refrigerant: R600A
    • Voltage: 115 VAC
    • Frequency: 60 Hz
    • Start Winding: 5 Ohm at 77°F
    • Run Winding: 7 Ohm at 77°F
    • Run to Start: 12 Ohm at 77°F
    • LRA: 8.0 A
    • FLA: 2.18 A
    • Starting Device: Run Cap 12VF 250V P2
  • Water Supply: Potable cold water supply line with pressure between 20 psi and 120 psi. Use 1/4" copper tubing. Self-piercing type valves are not recommended. Reverse osmosis, softened, and de-ionized water are not recommended as they can adversely affect ice quality and quantity.
  • Minimum Room Temperature: 55°F (13°C).
  • Maximum Ambient Temperature: 90°F (32°C) for built-in units, 100°F (38°C) for freestanding units.
  • Drain Pump (if equipped): Maximum lift of 8 feet (2.44 meters) and horizontal run not greater than 20 feet (6.1 meters).
  • Thermistors: Two thermistors are used for temperature readings:
    • Ice Bin Thermistor (T1): Located along the left-hand side wall, maintains ice level. Nominal resistance (5K OHMS) varies with temperature (e.g., 16330 at 32°F/0°C).
    • Condenser Thermistor (T2): Located on the condenser, used for defrost and production time compensation. Nominal resistance (10 OHMS) varies with temperature (e.g., 29.490 at 32°F/0°C).

Usage Features:

  • Electronic Control: Features ON/OFF, Toggle Interior Light, Enable/Disable Sabbath Mode, Silent Mode (ice production suspended for 3 hours), Clean Mode, and Showroom Mode.
  • Sabbath Mode: Disables interior light and display while the unit continues to operate.
  • Silent Mode: Suspends ice production for 3 hours.
  • Clean Mode: Initiates a cleaning cycle (approximately 45 minutes) for optimal performance and ice quality.
  • Showroom Mode: Designed for display environments, only control and cabinet lights function; compressor and fans do not operate.
  • Door Alert Notification: A tone sounds and "dr" appears in the display if the door is left open for more than 30 minutes.
  • Ice Bin Level Sensor: Automatically starts or stops ice production based on ice supply.
  • Door Reversal: Instructions are provided for reversing the door swing.
  • Side-by-Side & Stacking Installations: Specific clearance requirements for proper door swing and ventilation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning Reminder: "CL" and "ICE" alternate on the UI every 3000 cycles to indicate cleaning is needed.
  • Cleaning Procedure: Involves turning off the unit, removing ice, draining the water reservoir, pouring a "nickel safe" ice maker cleaner onto the evaporator plate, and allowing the cleaning cycle to complete.
  • Front Grille Maintenance: Periodically brush or vacuum lint and dirt from the front grille to ensure proper airflow.
  • Cabinet Cleaning: Wash with mild soap and water; avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Interior Cleaning: Wash with mild soap and water; avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, polishes, undiluted detergents, or chlorine-based cleaners.
  • Stainless Steel Cleaning: Routine cleaning is recommended, especially in coastal areas, to remove contaminants and extend product life.
  • Long-Term Storage/Winterization: Detailed steps for draining all water from the ice-making system to prevent damage from freezing, including disconnecting water supply, running clean cycle, unplugging, and removing the access cover to drain the water valve and drain pump. Prop the door open for air circulation.
  • Light Assembly Replacement: LED lamps are used for interior illumination; contact a qualified service technician for replacement if they fail.
  • Warranty Registration: Online registration is available at www.marvelrefrigeration.com.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: Provides solutions for common issues such as the ice machine not operating, little or no ice production, noisy operation, ice quality problems (odor, color, taste, clumps, size), and plumbing issues.
