Geng Set Up
Make sure that you securely connect one end of an air hose to the air inlet of the airbrush and the other end of the
hose to compressor. Remember to always wear a dust mask or respirator for solvent based paint, while airbrushing.
Holding and Triggering a Dual-Acon Airbrush
Hold the airbrush like you would hold a pen with your index nger on the trigger for control. For a dual-acon airbrush
press down on the trigger for air ow and while the trigger is pushed down pull back on it to release paint ow.
Fundamental Airbrushing Techniques for Best Results
When using your airbrush, spraying distance, applicaon speed, airbrush angle and air pressure are the key
principles to consistently achieving the best airbrush spraying results. To get comfortable using the airbrush,
pracce spraying with it at dierent distances and spray angles, while also adjusng your speed of applicaon and
air pressure. (For airbrushing pracce exercises and detailed step by step airbrush ps, tricks and video guides visit

Special Features Available on Some Models of Master Airbrushes
A. Quick Flush Cutaway Handle
The cutaway handle allows you to pull the needle chucking nut
back to quickly ush and clean air passages within the airbrush.
B. Preset Knob Handle
The handles preset uid control knob allows you to set the
limit on the travel distance of the airbrush trigger. This enables
complete control of paint ow, so you can spray consistent
repeatable lines.
C. Micro Airow Adjustment Control Valve
A specialized air control valve at the head of the airbrush that can
be adjusted to lower the air ow (psi), which enables accurate
micro ne spray control.

Dual-acon airbrushes are the most widely used style of airbrush,
as they allow the user to have superior control of the air ow, uid
ow and spray paern. The three main dual-acon airbrush types
are Gravity Feed, Siphon Feed and Side Feed.
DUAL-ACTION refers to the triggering method of acvang the
airbrush, as pressing down on the trigger releases the air ow and
drawing back on the trigger releases the paint ow. Since a dual-
acon airbrush combines the two separate moons of the trigger
into a single control, it makes it much easier for the user to achieve
consistent ne detail line spraying results.

Overview

The Master Airbrush Quick Start Guide provides an overview of various airbrush types, their functions, usage, and maintenance. This guide is designed to help users understand and operate Master Airbrush products effectively, with additional resources available at www.airbrushresourcecenter.com.

Function Description

An airbrush is a precision tool used for applying paint or other media in a fine, controlled spray. It operates by mixing air and fluid to create an atomized spray pattern. The guide primarily focuses on dual-action airbrushes, which offer superior control over both air and fluid flow, making them suitable for detailed work. Single-action airbrushes are also discussed, providing a simpler operation for beginners.

Important Technical Specifications and Usage Features

Dual-Action Airbrushes:

Dual-action airbrushes are the most widely used style due to their superior control over air flow, fluid flow, and spray pattern. The "dual-action" term refers to the triggering method: pressing down on the trigger releases air flow, and drawing back on the trigger releases paint flow. Combining these two motions into a single control allows for consistent fine detail line spraying.

There are three main types of dual-action airbrushes:

  • Gravity Feed: In this configuration, the paint cup is located on top of the airbrush, allowing gravity to assist in feeding the paint to the nozzle. This design is often preferred for small amounts of paint and fine detail work due to efficient paint delivery. To operate, push down for air, then pull back for fluid.
  • Siphon Feed: With siphon feed airbrushes, the paint bottle is typically located below the airbrush. Airflow creates a vacuum that siphons paint up from the bottle to the nozzle. This type is suitable for larger volumes of paint and broader coverage. To operate, push down for air, then pull back for fluid.
  • Side Feed: Side feed airbrushes feature a paint cup or bottle attached to the side of the airbrush. This design offers flexibility in terms of viewing angle and can accommodate various paint volumes. To operate, push down for air, then pull back for fluid.

Holding and Triggering:

Users should hold the airbrush like a pen, with the index finger on the trigger for control. For dual-action airbrushes, press down on the trigger for air flow, and while it's pushed down, pull back to release paint flow.

Fundamental Airbrushing Techniques:

Achieving the best results depends on several key principles:

  • Spraying Distance: The distance between the airbrush and the surface affects the spray pattern and coverage.
  • Application Speed: The speed at which the airbrush is moved across the surface influences paint density.
  • Airbrush Angle: The angle at which the airbrush is held relative to the surface impacts the spray shape.
  • Air Pressure (psi): Air pressure controls the atomization of paint and the fineness of the spray. Practice with different distances, angles, speeds, and air pressures is recommended to become comfortable with the airbrush.

Special Features Available on Some Models:

  • A. Quick Flush Cutaway Handle: This feature allows the user to pull the needle chucking nut back quickly, facilitating the flushing and cleaning of air passages within the airbrush.
  • B. Preset Knob Handle: This handle includes a preset fluid control knob that limits the travel distance of the airbrush trigger. This enables precise control over paint flow, allowing for consistent and repeatable lines.
  • C. Micro Airflow Adjustment Control Valve: Located at the head of the airbrush, this specialized air control valve can be adjusted to lower the air flow (psi), providing accurate micro-fine spray control.

Fixed Dual-Action Pistol Trigger Airbrush:

This design offers the feel of a spray gun trigger while maintaining the accurate spray control of an airbrush. Pulling the trigger slightly back releases air flow, and pulling it further back releases paint flow.

Single-Action Airbrush:

Single-action airbrushes are easy to operate. A simple push down on the trigger activates both air and paint flow simultaneously. While ideal for beginners, they offer less spray control compared to dual-action airbrushes.

Single-Action External Mix Airbrush:

In this type, air and paint mix in front of the needle. The amount of paint spray is controlled by a knob near the tip. A simple push down on the trigger activates both air and paint flow.

Getting Set Up:

  1. Securely connect one end of an air hose to the airbrush's air inlet.
  2. Connect the other end of the hose to a compressor.
  3. Always wear a dust mask or respirator when using solvent-based paints.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning the Airbrush:

Proper cleaning is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the airbrush.

  1. Empty Excess Paint: Always empty any remaining paint before cleaning.
  2. Clean Between Colors: Clean the airbrush thoroughly when changing colors to prevent contamination.
  3. Clean After Each Session: Clean the airbrush at the end of every painting session to prevent paint from drying inside and clogging the airbrush.
  4. Use Appropriate Cleaning Solution: Refill the airbrush cup or bottle with the correct cleaning solution for the type of paint medium used (e.g., warm water for most water-based mediums).
  5. Flush and Back Flush: Flush out the airbrush by back flushing (plugging the tip of the brush while pulling the trigger back) and then spraying out until the airbrush sprays clear.
