Overview

This document describes a Maytag front-loading automatic washer, designed for efficient and convenient laundry care.

The primary function of this appliance is to wash clothes using a front-loading design. It is engineered to conserve resources by using less water and energy compared to conventional washers. The washer automatically determines and provides the optimal amount of water needed for each load, ensuring effective cleaning while minimizing waste.

Usage Features:

The washer features flexible electronic controls that are user-friendly for both beginners and experienced users. It offers an "Auto Water Level" feature, which adjusts the water level based on the load size, allowing for efficient cleaning with minimal water. This means you can achieve the same washing results for both small and large loads.

The absence of an agitator allows for washing larger and bulkier items, such as sleeping bags, pillows, or large stuffed animals, and accommodates more clothes per load, reducing the number of wash cycles.

The "Adaptive Variable Speed Motor" adjusts its speed according to the load size and selected cycle, optimizing cleaning, rinsing, and spinning conditions. It can handle slow speeds for delicate items and powerful high-speed spins for average loads. The washer automatically selects the appropriate spin speed for each cycle, with options to change it if desired, offering up to three different spin speed choices.

The "Add Clothes" option is available for most wash cycles, allowing users to add forgotten garments within the first 7 minutes of the cycle.

A "Dynamic Balance" system ensures the washer reaches high-speed spins efficiently. This system redistributes off-balance loads during spinning to maintain even balance, resulting in clothes with less moisture than traditional top-load machines, thus reducing drying time.

"Smart Dispensers" are integrated into the washer, featuring three compartments for detergent, liquid chlorine bleach, and liquid fabric softener. These products are diluted and dispensed automatically at the optimal time during the wash cycle for high-performance cleaning. The detergent is added at the beginning, bleach after the enzymes have cleaned, and fabric softener during the rinse cycle. The dispenser tray is easily removable for cleaning.

The washer offers various "Wash Cycles" tailored for different fabric types and soil levels, including:

  • Power Wash: For heavily soiled garments and household items, combining high and medium tumbling with MaxExtract™ spin and extra water in the last rinse.
  • Whites: Specifically designed for soiled white fabrics, using hot water, chlorine bleach, fast-speed tumbling, and an automatic 2nd Rinse option.
  • Heavy Duty: For sturdy, colorfast, and heavily soiled fabrics, featuring fast-speed tumbling and MaxExtract™ spin.
  • Normal: For no-iron fabrics, permanent press blends, cottons, and synthetics, with medium-speed tumbling, MaxExtract™ spin, and a load cooling process to reduce wrinkling.
  • Comforters: For normally soiled blankets and comforters, starting with a soak, followed by medium wash action and low spin speeds.
  • Rapid Wash: For small, lightly soiled loads that need quick washing, combining fast-speed tumbling, shortened wash time, and high-speed spin.
  • Delicate: For sheer fabrics and lingerie, using low-speed tumbling and spin for gentle care.
  • Silk: For washable silk and ultra-delicate garments, with gentle tumbling and the lowest spinning to minimize wrinkling.
  • Rinse, Drain & Spin: For rinsing and spinning only, with adjustable spin speed.
  • Soak: To remove set-in stains, providing a soak time with warm or cold water, followed by drain without spin.
  • Clean Washer with AFFRESH™: A monthly cycle using higher water levels with AFFRESH® washer cleaner tablet or chlorine bleach to clean the washer interior.

"Options & Modifiers" allow for further customization:

  • FRESH SPIN™: Provides periodic tumbling for up to 6 hours after the cycle ends to keep clothes fresh if immediate unloading isn't possible.
  • Delay Start: Allows scheduling the wash cycle to begin at a later time.
  • 2nd Rinse: Adds an extra rinse to remove detergent residue, automatic for the Whites cycle.
  • Max Extract™: Increases the final spin speed to reduce water content in heavy fabrics, shortening drying time.
  • Wash Temp: Adjusts water temperature based on fabric type, with all rinses using cold water.
  • My Cycle: A convenient feature to save frequently used cycle and option combinations.

The washer includes "Controls Locked" to prevent unintended changes during a cycle, and a "Door Locked" indicator for safety.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and freshness.

  • Cleaning the Door Seal/Bellow: Users should regularly inspect and wipe down the rubber seal at the front of the tub to remove stains and foreign objects. A dilute solution of liquid chlorine bleach and warm water is recommended for cleaning stained areas.
  • Washer Maintenance Procedure: The "Clean Washer with AFFRESH™" cycle should be run monthly using an AFFRESH® washer cleaner tablet or liquid chlorine bleach to thoroughly clean the washer interior. It's important not to add any detergent or clothing during this cycle.
  • Maintaining Washer Freshness: Always use HE (High Efficiency) detergent. Leave the door slightly open after each cycle to allow for ventilation and drying of the interior. Repeat the cleaning procedure monthly.
  • Cleaning the Exterior: Use a soft, damp cloth or sponge with mild soap and water to wipe up spills and keep the exterior looking new. Abrasive products should be avoided.
  • Cleaning the Dispenser Drawer: The dispenser drawer is removable for easy cleaning. Users can unlock and remove the drawer, take out the siphon inserts, and wash them under running water. Dishwasher cleaning is not recommended for these components.
  • Water Inlet Hoses: Inlet hoses should be replaced after 5 years to reduce the risk of failure. Periodic inspection for bulges, kinks, cuts, wear, or leaks is advised.

The manual also provides a "Stain Removal Guide" with recommendations for treating various stains using liquid chlorine or color-safe bleach and suggested wash cycles. It emphasizes not to tumble dry soiled or stained items as heat can permanently set stains.

Troubleshooting tips are included to address common issues such as error codes, noise, vibrations, leaking, dispenser problems, power issues, and water fill problems. These tips guide users through basic checks before contacting service.
